Main Sim - Sickbay - The Sargent's Checkup

[snip]If someone checked the PADD reference they would see that was and indicator of having to heed the call of nature soon.....
Rick peered down at the Sergeant. By all accounts thus far she seemed to have understood them – eerily a little too well for his comfort. And knowing another language? Rick knew a smattering of French – though were he to try to say anything to the Captain whom he heard was French – he would likely butcher it spectacularly. Growing up in the heartland of Canada, he was away from the centers where French was more prevalent. He had taken it in school, but really, outside of that never had cause or reason to use it. Thinking of Nessa having a better command of more than one language, not including ‘dog’, was unnerving. As the doctor knelt down, Rick double checked on the tablet. The fact that the commands were in Earth Standard English when he read them suggested to him that it was consistent, but it couldn’t hurt to check.
Checks on the known language was confirmed that the dog did indeed only get trained and raised around common English commands and languages.

That was a relief, Rick thought, as he read that Nessa trained in English. “Looks like we’re in luck, Doctor. The Sergeant is good with English.” No Dutch lessons for him, and what on earth was Tagalog? Was that from one of the colonies? His finger rested on the tablet as he watched the dog do a little dance. He saw Sasha tip his head curiously and then nodded. What did the Russian mystic know about this?! His finger moved again, swishing about for a listing of non verbal communication. A long, thin finger pointed. The Ensign trying to be helpful. “Got it, sir,” he said, teeth gritting. He should know this. “Right there,” Sasha said, ever the help. “Oh, uh,” Rick replied, glancing at the tablet and then to Nessa and back again. “That’s the ‘gotta answer the call’ sign.” He looked at the Sergeant. “I think we’re about to visit the arboretum, then have something to eat.”

Rachel cocked her head at the dog “That would be best, are there plans for where the Sargent’ll be stationed” She asked the two officers.

Sasha sent Rick a sidelong wide eyed look. “Uhhhh ..”
Rick stowed the tablet and knelt down and answered for the ensign. “She was supposed to be sent to Mars. I guess there was a mail screw up and they got some of our gear. I think we have a bit of a bond here. Captain kinda left her in our hands. I think her ‘stationed’ will be in my quarters for now.” Won’t Mark be surprised when he finds out, Mark Sayers, the neurotic science petty officer.
“Well, unless there’s more, Doc, I think we should get the Sergeant acquainted with the arboretum.” Silently, he was thinking, ‘I hope it is of a good size ..’

Nessa gave another three circle stance, and whined again, giving more urgency to her need to ‘get going’. With nothing else to do they may as well ‘get to it’.

Sasha looked at the Sergeant then to Rick. “I will go back to the bay and bring up anything I might find there and complete the gravity scans. It may be best to attend to the Sergeant.” With that, Sasha gave a respectful nod to the doctor and left.
“Can I leave these things here for now, doctor? I’ll pick them up a little later after Nessa and I have .. attended to business.” He did still have the tablet with him for reference.” Moving the box of food and things off to the side and out of the way for the moment, he said, “Nessa, come,” and, waiting for a moment for her to respond, they moved out of sickbay and in the direction of the arboretum. Sickbay was on B deck and the arboretum was on D deck. Not that far down. Mentally still getting his bearings in this new ship, Rick made for the nearest lift to take them down to D deck. Here and there Rick could pick up the click click of Nessa’s nails on the deckplates. He would have to look up if they needed to be trimmed. Well, they did. Barb’s folks had to, he recalled. He would have to look into the accompanying kits supplied for things like clippers and a brush maybe?
After a short trip where Rick began to feel a sense of urgency, he picked up his pace and made it to the arboretum. He had not visited there yet and was curious what he would find ..
