The dreaded physical.

Shia didn’t quite understand the hatred behind physicals, beyond the invasion of personal space. Otherwise, it seemed vital to ensure any incoming personnel were healthy and not bringing aboard a nasty virus as their carryon item. A ‘please check all illnesses at the door,’ sort of thing.

Navigating the halls, she found her way into the Sickbay, her steps light in spite of her seemingly heavy composure. Standing beside the door, she searched for any sign of a doctor or any medical professional to help her get this portion of the procedure checked off on.

Rolling her shoulders to release tension build up, the young woman found herself waiting for any sign of those doctors.

Lt. Jharaas
Incoming MACO CO

In the middle of the sickbay stood a tall woman, well was more spinning in a full pirouette, her long white robe swishing with her. Once she noticed the Andorian the woman stopped herself, almost falling in the process, only barely managing to grab onto a nearby bed. Once she had fully stopped she threw back her auburn hair and smiled a crooked smile “<Greetings on this auspicious day>” the tall woman greeted Jharaas in Andorian, her accent was fairly impeccable but her pronunciation clearly Human “I’m Lieutenant Doctor or Doctor Lieutenant Grey. Whichever you prefer” She put her hands on her hips, moving her coat out of the way revealing a small blue ribbon tied to her belt in a respectful knot. The MACO CO would recognize it as the Andorian Blue Ribbon of Bravery and thusly the Doctor as its sole Human recipient. “I’m assuming that you’re Lieutenant Jharaas” Now she spoke in English with a soft Scottish accent “Welcome to the Bonnie, lass”

Dr. Grey - CMO

“An Andorian Ribbon of Bravery,” Her tongue was laced by the thick accent of the language she spoke freely. It was softer when spoken, but in English, it was a bit sharper. “I have heard of a human receiving it once before, but it is an occurence as rare as your blue moon.” As a Guard, someone who understood deeply the importance of honour and valiance, found a different respect for the Doctor, which she had not yet achieved for anyone else, beyond that of a decency. She thought of the name, considering where she had heard it before. An idea came to mind, but didn’t bother asking the question, “That would be my name, yes,” The Andorian’s English was fair, considering her people were beginning to be required to know the language, specifically if they desired any off-world assignments. “Thank you, Doctor. I do not mean to take up your time, but do you have a moment to spare for a physical?”

Lt. Jharaas
MACO CO

Rachel nodded with glee “Yes please, take a seat” She indicated to the central bed “I was a part of an experimental student exchange to Andoria if you will, I was never meant to serve with the guard but We were the only active medical unit in the area during an emergency, I can promise you it wasn’t a popular decision.” The doctor gathered several instruments whilst the MACO got comfortable.

Dr. Grey - CMO

“Race doesn’t matter, when people are subject to death, Doctor Grey.” Andorians were widely known to be more on the xenophobic side, and there had been a time when Jharaas had been the same. However, she had her share of experiences to learn that xenophobia was way too much work to keep up with. “How did you find the training on Andoria to be?”

Situating herself, she allowed her feet to dangle slightly, while otherwise maintaining a tense position.

Lt. Jharaas
MACO

Rachel started a basic scan with her hand scanner after adjusting the settings for an Andorian patient. Waving the magic wand with precision and meaning “Very interesting, I’d never taken part in combat training before, Being a certified combat medic for the Andorian Imperial Guard is a large part of the reason they gave me this job. You don’t train for four years in how to deal with high-stress environments just to become a surgeon on Earth” She smiled slightly “But what about you, how come you got assigned to an Earthfleet ship. Last I heard Serving with Humans wasn’t the highest honour in the Guard these days, despite the Coalition and everything”

Dr. Grey - CMO

Jharaas’ scans would read that she was a healthy individual, fast metabolism, quick heartbeat; pulse at 109, all quite normal for an Andorian, whose body structure was built for the chill. “Just so you know, I have a disc-degenerative disease that is genetic and poses no threat.” Shiavik figured she should explain that, knowing most doctors who caught any sign would become concerned. However, for her, it was simply a genetic disorder, something that caused pain here and there. Although, with her resistance to pain, it didn’t matter much. “A wise choice. The training for medics in our programs is intense and strenuous. They are there to train capable and able-minded people, no simpleton would be able to pass.” It was an Andorian way of complimenting her.

Rachel nodded slightly, having spent such a long time with Andorians she’d learned what they considered to be complimentary words and otherwise. After a moment she lowered the wand and read over the basic results.

“It was not viewed as honourable by any of my comrades, not my commanding officer nor my fellow enlisted. However, our general thought it would be ethical to transfer officers to human ships, in order to establish better relations between the Andorian government and that of the humans. Of course, not all Andorians can see the vitality of such diplomatic attempts. In fact, many viewed this as punishment.”

Lt. Jharaas
MACO

Although satisfied with the preliminary results and having placed her hand scanner down she started tapping the console for the Central scanning bed “Please lie down, since this is your first time onboard an Earthfleet ship in service I need a detailed body scan, especially for a soldier to catalog any previous injuries, Military records in the Guard isn’t always forthcoming to <Outsiders>” She used the friendly version of the Andorian Slang “So are you one of those that believe this to be some form of punishment? I mean you’re a fairly young Zhen aren’t you?” She asked already knowing the answer, a new Andorian arrival had piqued her interest quite a bit “Yet they’re putting you in charge of a MACO unit, That is a fairly impressive feat, we’ve had guest members embedded but I don’t recall hearing about many Alien leaders.”

Dr. Grey CMO

Laying back, her spine hitting the bed, she endeavoured to remain as still as possible for the doctor to complete her scans. “I see.” Previous injuries? Jharaas would be a fool to believe she would find no indications of even a single one. It is not all sunshine and roses, to be an Imperial guard.. Not that such delicacies were something any Andorian knew of beyond that of pictures of them. A small smirk came to the edges of her lips at the friendlier version of ‘outsiders.’ It pleased her, in many ways, to know at least one person aboard this ship wasn’t a total stranger to the Andorian culture and their people.

“To be quite honest with you, despite your obvious and fair rationale behind the idea, I’m uncertain. Yes, you’re right, this is feat not previously attempted by those in charge. However, to an Andorian, the notability of receiving such a role, might be the equivalent of being a general crewman aboard a ship. That is, in terms of societal difference and their views on human ranking. If that makes any sense,” Jharaas explained. “For that reason, I’m not positive if they had determined this a punishment, or if it were meant a reward. Either way, it is a striking opportunity. Don’t you think?”

Lt. Jharaas
MACO

After a moment of setting the scanner up the bed moved inside, swallowing the Andorian whole and starting the scan process “I’d say so yes, We’ve already proven time and time again we have only things to learn from each other. It can’t be that long till we start some more involved cooperation.” The Scot spoke a little louder so the Andorian could hear “I mean even with the limited cooperation we’ve managed things we never could alone.”

Dr. Grey - CMO

“It shouldn’t be too long. However, that is solely dependent on those above us. Unfortunately, we, as their subordinates only have so much influence on the matter.” It had taken her a few seconds to accurately place what the Doctor had been saying. When she spoke, her voice was a bit muffled, but she raised it, half way through, in realization of the possibility. “You’re not wrong. Perhaps the future will convey more of that.”

Lt. Jharaas
MACO CO

The Scanner gave the exact results that the Andorian had promised. Rachel dotted down some notes into her file and pressed a button. The bed rolled out and the Doctor greeted Jharaas with a smile “It’s up to us to influence the decisions of our superiors. Just by working together we prove the benefits.” She put her PaDD on the counter and placed her hands on her hips “Well there doesn’t seem to be anything else I need from you Lieutenant. I’m declaring you fit for duty”

Dr. Grey - CMO

“Thank you, Lieutenant.” Jharaas rose to her feet, adjusting the uniform about her body, to inhibit any wrinkles. “I have no doubt that you are correct, Doctor. It shall be interesting, these coming days.” With an incline of her head, she gave the faintest smile, “Good day, Doctor.” Before she turned to leave.

Lt. Jharaas
MACO CO

Rachel smiled her crooked smile, waving the Andorian goodbye. As soon as the woman left the room Rachel went back on one leg practising her pirouettes with great finesse.

Dr - Grey CMO

Stovik passed the new MACO CO as he was exiting the Med Bay and nodded in silent greeting to the Andorian. He had heard that they were getting a new Andorian exchange officer who was taking over the MACO CO spot.

He made his way over to the CMO,”Doctor. I assume that is our new MACO CO?” He asked with a slightly raised brow.
