Marceau nodded, smiling just a little bit as he headed down the hallway and onto the ship’s Bridge. It was quite impressive for the time, and of course, after pausing at the door he went ahead and tried out the captain’s chair. Then he stood and looked to Helena, wanting her to check out the Helm station. To Grace he said, “It is an impressive bridge, is it not?”

Helena followed along behind, watching. Marceau take in his shinny new bridge, with a grin. She stared at the helm taking in the design and layout and then glanced at the situation area where the navigational computer was. She could access it from the helm, but the larger more detailed work could be done from there. When Marceau glanced at her to check out the helm she practically skipped the first few steps and then slipped into the chair. It was more compact than the Freedom class and the controls had been moved around. She liked the yoke, it slid out from under the console for when she needed it rather than being in the way during warp travel. Her seat also moved on a track and locked down rather easily. Her hands glided across the console taking in the position of each control. “I can not wait till 1400.”

“They definitely made a pretty impressive bridge Captain. I can’t speak to most of the design, that’s outside my specialty, but they definitely streamlined a lot of the features from the previous designs. I noticed that they took out some of the extra redundancy on the science console, which gave us some more room to actually look through the data.

“And hopefully the controls are to your liking Lieutenant.”

Helena nodded, “Oh yes. The early prototypes we’re quiet an improvement but this is,” Helena’s fingers ran across the console again, “pure magic and appears absolutely intuitive. I can’t wait to to get familiar with it.” But it would have to wait until later in the day. She swiveled in the seat and stood moved toward the door. Not before glancing at Renault in the center chair. “It suits you, Captain.”

Marceau grinned… but it was almost a shy grin? A little half smile, really. “Can’t wait for 1400, hum? It will be exciting, yes?” Then he turned to leave the bridge with the both of them, “We will be spending more than enough time here. What else would you two like to see while we have the time?”

“Well I’ve been able to poke my head around a decent amount, is there anything in particular that you’d like to see? We can swing by engineering.” Heather paused to look at the clock on a nearby console. “Or you are of course free to do some self exploration of the ship. I recommend not to expect much out of the science labs yet as I’m still trying to get them organized.”

Helena had to stop herself from telling Cmdr Grace not to worry too much. It took Marceau two and a half months to organize sickbay the first time he was chief medical officer. She’d love to see the whole ship, but there would be time to explore. “I would love to see the engine, out of pure curiosity. Maybe the common areas like the galley and the gym? After that I will probably need to hit the launch bay if I’m going to have those shuttles cleared on time.”

It had taken him that long the second time, too, and a little over a month at his third CMO posting. Marceau would have been quite embarrassed if Helena had told his new XO that, though. He nodded in agreement with Helena, “I will be honest, Engineering is not my best subject… but seeing the Engineering area and the engine, is still important. If there are any issues with those shuttles, do comm me.” He said, the last part to Helena.

“Sounds like the engine room it is. We can hit up the Galley and Gym on the way to the launch bay, as they are all on G Deck.

“And don’t feel bad Captain. I could tell you the physics behind how the warp core works, but if you put me in a room with it and asked me to run it, or even make one from scratch, I’d be at a loss.”

Heather headed towards the lift, and after Helena and Marceau entered, hit the button for F deck.

“The Engine Room takes up room on Decks D, E and F, with the Chief Engineers office on F deck. And here we are,” she said as the lift doors opened. It was only a short walk down the hallway to the hatch that secured the engine room. Pulling on the door release, Heather swung it open and held it for the Captain and Lieutenant. “Welcome to the Engine Room.”

Stepping through the door, the eyes was instantly glued to the massive Warp 4 engine of the Sojourner. It hummed and glowed softly reminding Helena of the belly of a dragon as the fire built ready to erupt as fire breath from the maw of the beast. It was magnificent to behold, and Helena was going to get to control it from the pilot’s seat. She quickly stepped out of the way of an engineer that was hurrying across the deck. She did not want to get in the way and found a spot to observe. She would love a closer look, and might even ask Kelleher about it later, but for now work needed to be done and quickly. Additionally, the last thing a pilot wanted to do was tick off the engineers.
