SS Sojourner
Main Sim - Sickbay
[snip]
NE Van one of the Bonnie’s nurses came up to Grey as she entered, “..Ma’am, we got those two cryo pods from the planet safely hooked up safely in cargo bay one on emergency power cells. One male, one female, both human and though there is some physical scarring from prolonged cryo sleep freeze, they seem stable enough. What do you want to do?” she asked.

Rachel was fighting with her massive red curls, throwing them into a crazed semblance of a ponytail before turning and flashing her crooked Cheshire grin at the nurse “I’ll need a case for reference, removing humanoids from cryosleep. Also check to see if we can use those blasted transporters to move my patients, if not we’ll have to set up triage in the cargo bay. On second thought perhaps keeping them there for containment reasons would be wise, my last patient was radioactive enough to light up one of my brothers experiments” THat thought seemed to be for herself mostly.

OOC: Ok so since the sim just ended, I’ll say that with all things happening in the other threads wrapping up the sim that medical unfortunately was too busy dealing with various boo boos to get to the pods. And after getting back to Earth they were taken away by Starfleet medical to handle themselves. but to let you know what you would have found i’ll put in a 2-4 days later epilogue info for you!
It was about 5 days after the Bonnie’s rough return to Earth after their last nail biting mission. Medical sadly had not gotten down to open up the cryo pods and upon their return to Earth Starfleet Medical had taken overall charge of their handling.
Reports though got back to Grey within a few hours, the team that had handled the pods on Earth had awoken two Earth humans! One male one female! They were about 38 and 42 years old respectively, and based on the pod data had been in cryo sleep for well on 275 some years! But the interesting part was that in their debriefing what they told the examiners.
Their names were Marcus Slov, and Wendy Berns, both Lieutenants in Earth Starfleet from the SS Greyhound a Bonaventure class frigate from.....5 years in the future! They reported that the Greyhound of that time had finished construction (said Greyhound was currently under construction nearby in Earth orbit from the Bonnie! It was for them late 2252), and been sent on a deep space mission to explore space. They had run into some kind of energy anomaly and tried to run from it at warp. The wave though kept up, somehow traveling at FTL speeds in excess of Warp 4! The Greyhound’s crew had felt the ship shudder badly then passed out, when they awoke they found that their ship’s warp drive had overloaded. The ship’s crystal reaction chamber was ruined beyond their capability to repair on the ship. Limping into a nearby system on impulse they found it was mineral rich and possibly could be used as a safe haven to gather and refine materials to build a new reaction chamber. Over the next month the Greyhound crew had surveyed the system finding a primitive human like alien species on the third planet. Surveys showed the people were somewhere around the late Bronze or early Iron age of development.
By this point the Greyhound crew had realized that they did not have the sole manpower to mine and construct what was needed for fixing their ship. They had also come to realize based on star charts that they were far beyond any known space lanes, somewhere deep into the Beta Quadrant. Worse they also realized that the strange energy anomaly had transported them not only through space but also as a result of the space-time functions of warp also through time, almost 300 years in fact into their own past. The ship’s Captain made the choice that they would use the local populace to help mine the needed materials then figure out a way to get back to Earth in their own time. In exchange for the local populaces help the Greyhound crew would educate and aide them in their development, though some of the crew felt this was a bad idea overall they had no real choice so went along with it.
The local populace took to their arrival some kind of deities. They were currently embroiled in several local tribal wars, which the Greyhound crew soon called a halt too. They then were able to get the local tribes together united and get their aide in mining materials for the Greyhound, giving a rough explanation of who they were, where they were from, etc. The local populace took them to be saviors and gods, despite the best efforts of the Greyhound crew to enlighten and correct them.
Over the next 5 years the Greyhound crew quickly brought the local populace up through the ages of technology quickly bringing them up to strange standard of Earth in the late 21st-early 22nd century. However, due to local cultural influences that could not be broken, as well as unintended influences by the Greyhound crew telling stories of Earth, the local populaces cities soon grew to be a strange retro-future mix of Earth’s late 1950s but with a late 21st/early 22nd century technology level. Several more years past and not at 10 years stranded in this system some of the crew who had been single had paired off with local populace having children. These children were seen by the locals as ‘god children’ and heavily respected, again despite the best efforts to enlighten and correct the populace, with no other recourse the Greyhound crew just accepted it and moved on with their plans.
Then as their 13th year of isolation in the system began their work to refine and rebuild their warp reactor was paying off, one day the warp reactions came online much to the joy of the Greyhound’s crew. Things were starting to look up! Then the following day strange subspace fluctuations were picked up at the edge of the system. With only a skeleton crew currently on the ship, the Greyhound’s captain decided to check it out, leaving 80% of the remaining crew including the ship’s two MACO teams planetside.
Over an open comm the Captain quickly informed his crew and nearby local populace that they had encountered what seemed some kind of serpentine alien race, one which was hostile and based on what little they could translate wanted to enslave those in the system. Retreating back to the planet’s orbit the Captain made a quick decision to transport down the remainder of his crew with as much of various supplies and Earth technology they could muster in 10 minutes. The Captain then told his crew to build cryo pods and attempt to use the built up technology of the populace to somehow send a distress beacon to Earth then enter cryo sleep and hopefully await rescue.
The last exchange with the crew and their Captain was him using the damaged warp drive to ram and overload the ship in self-destruct to destroy the serpentine aliens which did not use normal starships but were themselves basically space-borne organisms. The effort and news spread like wildfire across the local alien populace and of the Greyhound Captain’s heroic sacrifice to save their planet and ‘his chosen people’, when in reality it was really just to save his own crew. After a few days of absorbing their current state the Greyhound crew now were looked up even more as saviors and gods to lead the people into a new age of prosperity. Using the two shuttle pods the crew were able to salvage and study the alien ships remains. Using this knowledge, their own remaining tech, and refining those of the local populace they built a massive geothermal bunker and power source over the next 10 years that would house the crew safely in cryosleep.
During this time however, splits in the Greyhound crew became more evident. the MACO and Armory crew had settled mostly on the southern continent and had the opinion that going into cryo-sleep in a low percentage chance of rescue was suicidal, and instead they should just live out their lives as Gods and enjoy what life was left to them. Meanwhile the Engineering, Medical and Science crew had the opposite goals, they wanted to get rescued even if things were of a low chance. But because of the disagreements soon the local populace also split down similar lines of thoughts following their ‘Gods’. This lead to small wars over the next 5 years. In the end the Greyhound crew on both sides were forced to embroil themselves in fighting their former crew mates. Many getting killed or assassinated during this time.
In the end eventually a rough peace was established, and all of the remaining Greyhound crew from both factions, the south now known as the MAC-ARM Empire and the northern faction being known as the EMS Alliance. Entered the bunker they had constructed and entered cryo-sleep.
Of course as the Bonnie doctor knew only two of the 12 that had entered had survived, and as she read on Marcus was from the Greyhound’s engineering team and Wendy from the ship’s Science team. When both were informed of the current year they both were somewhat horrified, as it meant both now had their year selves to contend with, added to this was the horrific news on how the local aliens had destroyed themselves in the years after they had gone underground, and perverted the sciences and technology made of the locals, the serpentine aliens, and Earth Starfleet to such destructive and strange ends! There also was the strange paradox now on how the future would play out or be handled. After all Earth Starfleet now knew what would happen to the Greyhound once it was complete and sent out to explore. Their was the debate on whether they should alter their choices and/or inform the younger selves of both members of its crew of the existence of their older selves.
In the end such a debate or resolution was far above the Bonnie’s medical staff pay grade, and whatever would happen was probably going to be done behind closed doors she or anyone else would not be privy too. For now the best she and the rest could do was simply live their lives to the best of their ability.
