[snip]Scans took a bit to process, the strange ‘something’ was indeed putting out a lot of energy in fact it was quite similar to the strange energy source that the landing party had just shut down. Though in this case on a far higher level. The hull composition was of an unknown type, but readings could discern it was quite strong in composition. Interestingly despite this seeming advanced strength the actual hull’s thickness was not much more than an inch or so! Why this was so was anyone’s guess. Scans for any life signs came up negative, as best as could be devised, the entire massive diamond shaped structure was one massive power source, with what seemed an equally complex communications and sensing array. Again for what purpose was anyone’s guess. But it was a pretty safe assumption this was NOT a construct by either of the major powers on the planet below. Nor was it of any known race’s construction methods.
So far the device was not putting out any known signs of conventional signaling or hailing methods that the comms NE could report. The intense strobing of the top and bottom parts of the massive diamond shaped structure was its only cue of something going on.

[o] Engineering to Bridge. The light show out there is based on a foundational mathematical formula not unlike warp theory. That is somehow projecting energy through a comms carrier - the lights - into subspace. To where I have no idea but they’re digging the hole, not opening it. Radiation in that is off the scale to hope to go over there but also means nothing we know is living there. [c] To say that El sounded excited was an understatement.
- El, Eng
Lt. Black opened coms [O] are we in any danger from the radiation [O] he ask concernedly.
Lt. Isaac Black (AC)
[o] Negative. That hull there is thin but it is a good barrier to the radiation. Even with a hull breach it would not affect us with our distance. The atmosphere of the world .. could be a problem. [c] El replied. She sounded distracted as though something else was on her mind.
- El, EngBlack did not like the sound of that [0] El what about the atmosphere the world……. [O] he ask. He looked around Captain still last has not come to the bridge.
Lt. Isaac Black (AC)
[o] If that ship was to leak or blow that is a lot of radiation and energy expended and it’s not that far above the atmosphere. It could make a mess of it. I say could. We don’t know enough of the interior beyond that it’s a huge power plant that is using the energy to slowly burrow a hole in subspace. [c]
- El, Eng
As El and Black conversed the blinking/pulsing alien structure seemed to grow higher in energy output. Ahead of the Bonaventure a tiny aperture burrowing into subspace began to form up. “..Reading a tear in subspace forming 400 meters ahead of us sir..” the NE Science officer said to Black. “..Looks like whatever that thing is doing its preparing to do so..” he said.

Black closed his eyes and think “ two questions does a pose a danger to the plant below and what do we have to close it” he said out Loud so the com will carry his voice to EL.
Lt. Isaac Black (AC)
What followed from Engineering was a short string in Chinese that sounded particularly curse like .. followed by [o] Hold please . [c]
A minute later another voice came on the line. [o] Engineering, Galen here. El wanted me to pass on this. That portal in subspace is opening. It’s small. Needs about .. 20 minutes now before it gets to, what El says, optimal width for whatever it is going to do. It’s at 20 inches now. El says if it gets to 25 .. bad things might happen. She thinks there is a way to work the ship to nullify the signal and is working on that but that it is less than 5 minutes before that window is lost. [c] There was a sound of El calling ‘Galen!’, then .. [o] Look I have to go. El asks if you can signal an alert. She needs more engineers. [c]
El and Galen …
A moment later the Captain appeared on the bridge in a slightly agitated state. “Report… What’s going on and are we about to repeat the whole jump into another quadrant scenario?” She took her seat and looked around to see who was going to pipe up first.
Ari
COIsaac jumped up “Captain he have an unknown object emitting a lot of radiation and is currently digging a hole into sub space” he said.
Lt. Isaac Black (AC)
“Go to red alert!” The Captain replied and moved to the science station to get a better view of what they were looking at. She waved at Isaac to sit back down. “Don’t stand on ceremony now, Black.” She glanced up and smiled to let him know she wasn’t mad, then looked back down at the screen.
Thinking out loud she murmured. “We need to close that thing in case it decides it wants to bring us back again to … wherever we were a moment ago.” She growled and moved her fingers over the keyboard to see if the photon or spatial torpedos could disrupt the hole if need be.
“Try and hail them again. We need to find out what’s going on before we screw this up even more than it already is.” She was torn between just hoping the ship would disappear through the hole, and fearful it was going to pull them all through it again. She growled lightly under her breath trying to wish the computer to calculate faster.
When the computer came up with no answer, she half slammed the comm button [O] Engineering… We need to find a way to stop this hole getting bigger. Any suggestions? [O] Her voice was strained and she sounded more irritated than usual.
Ari
COIsaac was back at his tactical station “sir I do have an idea. If we use several high-yield explosives and explode them right at the event Horizon the explosion might have enough force to close the hole” he said (This theory has been proven to close wormholes and Black holes)
Lt. Isaac Black (AC)
[o] Working on it! [c] She may have sounded snappy there. El paused and took a breath. [c] Captain, that ship is sending out a subspace wave almost like a comms signal that is opening and burrowing into subspace. We’ve got about 3 minutes before it hits a size that might be … bad. [c] Well that sounded dramatic and totally without evidence. [o] It is pushing out a lot of power via those lights to do this. I’m trying to create a counter wave to nullify theirs. [c] Voices were in the background, and El paused her report momentarily [o] To do this we need to flicker the warp bubble and focus the energy through the warp nacelles – more or less a match of what that ship was built to do but what we’re improvising. It is risky ..
At that point Reginaldm a Lt in Engineering, could be heard, a clipped British baritone, “Are you crazy!? You’ll kill us all! The ship is not designed to do that. Do not initiate that, Ensign!” [c] The comms closed.
“I would have to agree with that assessment,” Jonathan said having heard the end of the conversation when he had finally arrived at the bridge after seeing their guests off. “Maybe not kill us all, but the ship is definitely not designed to handle the stress of flickering our warp bubble. Especially at the frequency that I’m sure she was anticipating.”
Looking at the viewscreen Jonathan had to suppress a shutter. The last thing they needed was an open portal into subspace, who knows where that would actually lead.
“Any chance of us shutting it down at the source? I haven’t had a chance to look into that ship. I hate to jump to the explosive option, but we probably don’t have a lot of time to work through options.”
Cmdr. McKnight - XO
Lt. Isaac was confused of what the CE was saying. The flickering of the warp bubble Will do nothing of a hole in sub space. The word bubble or Warfield only manipulates time space not sun space but he will keep this to himself for know.
Lt. Isaac Black (AC)
Ari nodded to Jonathan. “I’m inclined to agree with you. I think we should try something less detrimental to us to begin with.” Tapping the comm again, she hailed engineering. [O] Engineering .. We’re gonna try a couple things up here first. But I’m case they don’t work, I want a more definitive answer than ‘it may work out it may blow us up’. [O] There was an edge of a nervous laugh to her words. [O] Stand by and we’ll let you know how this works. Bridge out. [C]
“All right, let’s try this two fold. I want firing solutions for both a detonation on the event horizon and an explosion just forward of the ship. A spatial on the tear, and a photon across the bow. Perhaps the two will be enough to make someone jump enough to let off their button, as well as collapse what they’re already creating. Tactical, get targets to both and lemme know when you’re ready. We need to do this as quick as possible, people!”
She glanced from the Science Station, where she still stood, to the XO. “Our guests get home ok?” She had a light smile on her face but her concern was still there for both the visitors as well as their current predicament. Jonathan had known her long enough to see past the cool bravado to know she was flying by the seat of her pants now. And she didn’t like it.

((writer flying by seat of pants as well… Lemme know if just suggested something utterly stupid the CO would have already known lol… I’ll adjust it to just a “bad idea” instead of a “stupid rookie mistake” hehehe))
