One of the NE MACOs patrolling nearby nodded at her comment, “..It’s quite different being in an actual combat zone..” he commented glancing about still on alert during his patrol. “..Nothing seems to be in our immediate area though, closest are those locals down near the roadway it seems. Survivors most likely just looking for supplies or something..” he said nodding his head in that direction.

As he said this in that direction there was a distant ‘crack’ which sounded like a pair of high caliber ballistic firearms going off. A muted distant scream was heard then on the wind. Signaling for quiet, the MACO NE went with another to cover and pulled up a pair of long range night binoculars to scan ahead down the road. “..Showing 16 locals, 10 women, 2 men, and 4 children. Seems like 3 of the women are armed some of the local ballistic firearms, pistols if I don’t miss my guess. The three armed are dressed in what seems like military garb, looks like they’re from the northern ESM force up this way guess they went AWOL as the war took a turn against them, is my guess. Nothing but pillaging raiders now on the weak..” he said in disgust.

The other NE MACO nearby nodded, “..Seems they shot the one man who was armed in the leg, non-fatal I think. The three women are demanding likely supplies that the others got from a nearby hovervan. Things seem tense, the men, children, and non-armed women don’t seem to want to give up their supplies, and the three who are armed don’t seem like they are going to take no for an answer..” Pausing he glanced to Naomi who was the ranking officer here and would need to make a snap choice given his question to her. “..Nothing they got can hit us from here, but our pulse rifles could easily reach the three armed women, we could stun them. Probably would save the others, but no telling what they then might do once the women are unconscious, if you want us to take the shot we need confirmation right now..” he queried.

Naomi causally listened to her few officers as they broke the silence with their conversation. The sounds of voices helped ease her anxiety and her figure gradually relaxed. Suddenly the crack of gunfire caused her to tense and her eyes to widened, her hyper alertness kicking into gear. Her attention snapped to the MACO NE while he analyze the situation. Her chest began to subtle burn from the lack of breathe feeding her air. Moments ticked by while she listened to him reveal the situation unfolding.

At his question, she hated being the one in this position. A deep breath exhaled the stale air in her lungs while gathering more.

“Do it. It’s likely someone will get hurt and we should prevent that…” She tried to tame the trembling in her voice.

”..Aye ma’am, taking the shot..” the first NE said in reply peering back down his rifle’s scope.

After a pair of long seconds, the pulse rifle whined and a blue pulse shot out. Down range the shot hit the first woman, which was followed split seconds later by two more pulses, one from the second NE MACO and the third from the first MACO once more. “..All targets down.” the first reported.

After a second, the second MACO NE spoke up. “..The remaining civilians look confused, they’re peering in our direction, but there is no way they can see us from here..” he said pausing. “..The children are back in another tracked vehicle van, the injured man is being loaded into it by two of the women. The remaining man and two woman are stripping the ESM AWOLs of their belongings minus under garb..” he reported.

Another pause then more reported. “..The tracked van with the civies is on the move slowly down the crashed overpass. Guess they’re moving on to somewhere else.” After yet another pause from both the first finished up the report after scanning the horizon. “..No further signs of activity within visual range, we’re clear..” he said.

Naomi let out a deep sigh. “Good, I was worried.”

Her eyes closed while she felt the weight of responsibility drift off her shoulders. She tipped backward and landed on her rump, ignoring the slight sting on impact. The woman rested her arms on her knees while she began to relax and took in the scenery. Despite the chaos of war, it held its strange beauty during its calm. She prayed it would last until they left.

“I hope this doesn’t take too long.”

OOC: Small bump to just help keep this on the board. No hurries in replying, GM.
