Scans took a bit to process, the strange ‘something’ was indeed putting out a lot of energy in fact it was quite similar to the strange energy source that the landing party had just shut down. Though in this case on a far higher level. The hull composition was of an unknown type, but readings could discern it was quite strong in composition. Interestingly despite this seeming advanced strength the actual hull’s thickness was not much more than an inch or so! Why this was so was anyone’s guess. Scans for any life signs came up negative, as best as could be devised, the entire massive diamond shaped structure was one massive power source, with what seemed an equally complex communications and sensing array. Again for what purpose was anyone’s guess. But it was a pretty safe assumption this was NOT a construct by either of the major powers on the planet below. Nor was it of any known race’s construction methods.

So far the device was not putting out any known signs of conventional signaling or hailing methods that the comms NE could report. The intense strobing of the top and bottom parts of the massive diamond shaped structure was its only cue of something going on.

[o] Engineering to Bridge. The light show out there is based on a foundational mathematical formula not unlike warp theory. That is somehow projecting energy through a comms carrier - the lights - into subspace. To where I have no idea but they’re digging the hole, not opening it. Radiation in that is off the scale to hope to go over there but also means nothing we know is living there. [c] To say that El sounded excited was an understatement.

[o] Negative. That hull there is thin but it is a good barrier to the radiation. Even with a hull breach it would not affect us with our distance. The atmosphere of the world .. could be a problem. [c] El replied. She sounded distracted as though something else was on her mind.

Black did not like the sound of that [0] El what about the atmosphere the world……. [O] he ask. He looked around Captain still last has not come to the bridge.

[o] If that ship was to leak or blow that is a lot of radiation and energy expended and it’s not that far above the atmosphere. It could make a mess of it. I say could. We don’t know enough of the interior beyond that it’s a huge power plant that is using the energy to slowly burrow a hole in subspace. [c]

As El and Black conversed the blinking/pulsing alien structure seemed to grow higher in energy output. Ahead of the Bonaventure a tiny aperture burrowing into subspace began to form up. “..Reading a tear in subspace forming 400 meters ahead of us sir..” the NE Science officer said to Black. “..Looks like whatever that thing is doing its preparing to do so..” he said.

Black closed his eyes and think “ two questions does a pose a danger to the plant below and what do we have to close it” he said out Loud so the com will carry his voice to EL.

What followed from Engineering was a short string in Chinese that sounded particularly curse like .. followed by [o] Hold please . [c]

A minute later another voice came on the line. [o] Engineering, Galen here. El wanted me to pass on this. That portal in subspace is opening. It’s small. Needs about .. 20 minutes now before it gets to, what El says, optimal width for whatever it is going to do. It’s at 20 inches now. El says if it gets to 25 .. bad things might happen. She thinks there is a way to work the ship to nullify the signal and is working on that but that it is less than 5 minutes before that window is lost. [c] There was a sound of El calling ‘Galen!’, then .. [o] Look I have to go. El asks if you can signal an alert. She needs more engineers. [c]
