Air glanced at T’Leia, “See if you can find out what they want and what they know, please…” Moving over to Barr, Ari leaned on the console and spoke to her in a more hushed voice to allow T’Leia to speak unhindered.

“Aye, sir.” T’Leia said as she rose and stood with her hands behind her back, preparing to speak with the other Vulcan.

“Barr… need to you to find out if the place is powering up to turn the lights on, or powering up towards a cascade of some kind. I’m hesitant to send a ship there if they are setting a self destruct. I hate to say it, but I won’t risk those I am responsible for on the ‘off chance’ there may be folks over there.” She glanced back over her shoulder to T’Leia to see how it was going.

At the distance they were any explosion, if it was that, wouldn’t affect them at all. It wasn’t a consistent power up either, not like one might see in a system on overload, but stepped, as though first one thing was activating, then another, then another. Not that this couldn’t be some kind of alien overload style, but mechanically it was staggered.

“Captain,” Alison said dropping her voice to match Ari’s. “It looks like it is powering up. It isn’t a smooth increase in power, more indicative of an overload. It looks more like systems coming back online, one at a time.”

“Scientist T’til, I am Commander T’Leia. We have encountered two alien species in this region. We will send you a copy of our logs. ” Turning she nodded to Barr to indicate she wished the woman to send a copy of their logs. Turning back to T’til she said.”We are detecting your station powering up, Scientist T’til. May I ask why that is so?”

Commander T’Leia

OOC: Not her station .. this is an unknown station .. will adjust

T’til’s left brow rose at the mention of two alien species. “A station powering up from nothing? The reason amounts to a great number of even logical speculations. The most probable one is that the aforementioned aliens triggered something, or that your vessel was detected. The question remains is: why was it powered down? What does it mean that it now has power? Are you not planning on investigating in the search for new life and new civilizations?”

Ari nodded to Barr to follow the XO’s then listened intently as Right Hand inquired about the station. She whispered to Barr, “Tap it instructions to security and engineering to standby. We don’t know what’s going to happen and we’ll either need to get over there, or outta here, in a hurry is my guess.”

Alison nodded as she sent the files over to Command. As soon as that was done, she sent the instructions to engineering and security to stand by, to be prepare to get out of their fast.

A small smile tugged at Ari’s lips as she suddenly was grateful she was human and not one of the myriad of other races she was aware of. Her frustration would probably make a Klingon punch the console… It blue something up. An Orion would likely be trying to get over there and let off their pheromones to take control. And a Romulan would probably try and figure out how to take it over. At least, she knew those would probably be her reactions. Being human meant she’d likely hurt herself punching the console, end up a prisoner of she went to the alien ship uninvited, or lose her entire crew against the unknown if she suddenly attacked. Perhaps meditation lessons from T’Leia wouldn’t be a bad idea.

It didn’t occur to her that other races probably had equally ridiculous views of humans.

Baumann stood by, silently watching the exchange. While science and species relations were not part of his areas of expertise, he did know a bad tactical situation when he saw one. His jaw clenched again, but he held his tongue.

Baumann, AC

Baumann would note that the power levels on the station began to even out and stabilize - if indeed they were even previously unstable. The power output was considerable, though it was now level.

Max nodded “sending guards to the areas as ordered Sir. Shall I oversee the guard placement Sir?”

Woods, Armory

“Make your rounds now, Mr. Woods. Report back here when you are done. If the situation changes, I will let you know.”

Baumann, AC

T’Leia glanced at the Captain to see what her response would be to T’til’s question. “Our only concern, Scientist T’til, is that the aforementioned alien species appear to be very powerful and in a confrontation of some type. We felt it to be dangerous to be involved. I think we could investigate the station but if it is of this alien species it may not be prudent to become involved again.”

Commander T’Leia

“Captain, the power output has stabilized, it looks like the station has powered up. Though from these power readings, they have a considerable amount of power over there.”

Ltjg Barr - CSO

Baumann nodded in agreement. “They would have to, in order not to be drawn into any one of the stars surrounding it. I recommend that we proceed cautiously.”

Baumann, AC

Ari heard the words from T’til, but she also heard the tone. Simply running away, or rather, making a hasty retreat from a potentially hostile area, didn’t seem prudent to the ‘powers that be’. As T’Leia glanced at Ari, she sighed mentally and smiled with a nod to the viewscreen. “I believe a probe with an appropriate greeting and query to make contact is our next step. If that meets with your approval.” She was kind and not condescending, despite her desire to say what was always on her mind in such times. That being home and being out here were two different things.

She nodded to Barr. “Have a probe prepared. Include all known species greetings and a request for contact.” She glanced back at T’Leia to see if the woman was going to approve of her choice, or be disappointed the Captain had buckled so easily.

Capt Ari Bovar
CO

T’Leia nodded in response to Ari and turned back to T’til.”We are sending a probe to the unknown station with greetings and a request for contact. We will continue to send copies of our logs to keep you up to date on our progress.” She said with a nod.

Commander T’Leia

Baumann began programming trajectories into the launch computer, trying to compensate for the gravity fields of the celestial bodies around the station.

Baumann, AC

Ari patted Barr on the shoulder, “Lemme know soon as it’s launched.” Moving over to Baumann, she looked at the trajectories he had. “Looks good. Don’t worry about fast evac. If it gets in there, that’s all that matters. Just need to get signal in, then listen to response. But keep other possible entry and exit in case we have to get shuttles in there.” Her hand was on the back of his seat and she let her finger tips lightly brush his back. There was a connection between them, or she thought there was. But it hadn’t been explored. She just hoped this exercise, this First Contact mission, wasn’t going to become the end of them all and rob her of a chance to find out.

Letting go of his seat and glancing back at T’Til and T’Leia, she nodded. “Soon as it’s ready.”

Capt Ari Bovar
CO

At her touch, Baumann’s back muscles twitched slightly, but his posture didn’t reflect it. He leaned back slightly against her fingertips and said “Understood, Captain. I’ll start preparations for shuttle operations.”

Naomi strolled to the bridge, with her fellow Scientist in her wake. On the way, she had decided to grab one of the bunky scanners. She didn’t trust one device to give enough data if she was going to be truthful with herself. The thing felt like it weighed a ton, but she ignored the struggle as she pressed the button and stepped into the bridge. She was secretly hoping no one would question what took them so long. Unsure what to do, she stood off to the side and waited for farther orders. Interrupting a conversation was bad enough, but she had no idea where the being entered at.

–ENS Naomi D. Locke, Sci

OOC: The ‘maybe’ statement in the reply of ‘with her fellow Scientist in her wake’ was accidently left out. I wanted to make that clear so no one thought I was puppeting Silva, though Naomi wouldn’t have left the labs without him and I haven’t gotten a reply from him in the last thread. So as far as Naomi knows, Silva was right behind her when they left the lab. Sorry, I didn’t want anyone to get the wrong impression.

-Janice B.

OOC: Understood, Janice:)

IC:
T’Leia glanced around the bridge and noted their new Comms officer was missing and she wanted him here for this first contact so she hit the comms.
[O]Commander T’Leia to Lt. jg Dysart. Report to the bridge.[C]

Commander T’Leia

OOC: I got a hold of Geoff today, Janice and he said unfortunately he needs to drop this character so just use an NE if you need too.:)

Krys

[O]Y-yes sir.[C]

Max had finished his rounds as Lieutenant Baumann ordered him to complete. As he stepped over the threshold of the door to the bridge, he took his post next to Lieutenant Baumann.

Woods, Armory

OOC: Fixing thread split.

IC: Wulf looked up and nodded to Baumann. “Lieutenant. Is everything in order?”

Baumann, AC

Max nodded “Yes Sir.”
Woods

Alan stepped onto the bridge. Watching the floor, he walked to his station at comms. He looked at the board, upset that someone had changed some settings. He fixed the station to suit his idiosyncratic needs.

-Lt(j.g.) Alan Dysart, Comms/Linguist

“Lt. Barr, is the probe ready?” T’Leia asked as she looked over at the science station.
