As the two entered the mess hall, the ship’s time was roughly now going on midnight, there were a few on hand selections in the food case but unless El wanted to wake up the ship’s chef the current selection of cold mac/cheese, a hotdog and bun, and a cheesecake slice would have to suffice.

Things were sparse here but then, as El glanced at the chrono on the wall, that was to be expected. “We get leftovers for a midnight snack,” El said to her. Given the similarities of the worlds she felt reasonably confident she could describe things. “This here is a mix of a pasta and cheese. Pretty good when its hot, to me.” She glanced at the kitchen. “I could try heating it up for us.” She pointed to the other. “Bread and a hot dog - a kind of meat. Nobody really knows what though. You’d add other things onto that from that dispenser there to add taste. And this here is sweet. Dessert cake. I’ll recommend us doing hot dogs.”

She picked one up, popped it inside a bun with Elm in view to show her. “Please don’t judge us on our midnight food selection,” she said with a smile. “So what did you do on your world? School? Did you work? Have a boyfriend?”

Taking a moment to study the hot dog and then offerings of toppings, she selected pickled relish and mayo after a few tries.

“Might want to avoid the onions there. Nasty for the breath,” El commented as she fixed hers. They had stopped here and there on the mission but not enough to have more than a snack and water. “A lawyer. Impressive.” El was impressed and glanced at her in a new light; to El she looked young and frail and not one who would have been up defending the legalities of the system. “What is Bos’ton like? Nice place to live?” She admitted. “I never really lived in a city. Visited them. Before coming onto the ship here I trained in an Academy that was in a city but didn’t see it much. I grew up on an island.”
