As Black and the Captain arrived on the roof, Ari moved to an immediate crouch trying to keep her head down below the sight line of anyone who may be looking up at their location. She glanced around cautiously to see just ‘how low’ they had to be, while at the same time looking for Asam.

With El working on the helmet connection, Lt. Sanks looked at the choices for the articles. “I think the most recent would be the most helpful at this point, we don’t have time to go through every single one, as slow as this loads.” He typed 8 and hit the enter key, waiting to see what happened.

El shifted over to let Roger better work the computer, with her next to him utilizing the tabletop next to the computer as a small workspace. When she had last looked superficially the helmet appeared to be very similar to their own - another technological enigma. Peeling off the outer later of the inner part of the helmet to let her see the components themselves she mused over the information. “Great Greyhound. Department Heads. Heaven built ship. Serpents,” she whispered to Roger. Somehow in there her Asian accent came out more pronounced that way. “That explains quite a bit of the mixed tech we’re seeing.”

Once she managed to get the inner components exposed El would examine them to see how she might connect them again, hopefully wirelessly, to the comms of her scanner. While the last time was a makeshift on the spot fix, El wanted to do better this time and lock onto the primary frequency while scanning others. She would love to pick up both sides, but that might be beyond the scope of this helmet, though perhaps not entirely out of scope for her own scanner. She would have to see.

Getting the helmet apart was easy and once inside she found surprisingly the miniaturization of the components were quite frankly almost an exact match for their own MACO technology, some were a little bigger here or there but all in all things lined up easily for her to recognize. By this knowledge she could try a few ‘test frequencies’ that worked on their own helmets and soon found on that connected by her scanner! On top of this she had a full read on all frequencies and known encodings by the helmets internal comm unit and her own scanner. Meaning if she tried say a in use or older etc Starfleet or MACO frequency she might find something in use parrelling on this world.

El bent over the helmet. This was almost too easy - right from the drills she had at the Military Academy. While others were stripping down weapons - she had her share of that but not nearly as much as others - she was stripping down equipment and putting it back together again. This was way too close for comfort, but, in this instance, El was not complaining. She linked with the helmet, ensured that it was a secure link before testing frequencies. “Got it!” she said quietly, though figured that Roger was easily close enough to hear. As well she could feel the eyes of the girl on her too. What was she thinking of this? If El were her she’d be likely getting more suspicious. MACO’s neither for or against outwardly and trying to figure something that had been - at least according to the news screen - for years. Even country hicks couldn’t be that out of touch. She glanced at the screen. What news was coming up?

Back to the helmet though .. how ‘would’ the frequencies in use compare? So much other was the same and there were a lot of frequencies one could use. Seconds later her answer was confirmed. Many were the same. She glanced at the girl. “Tell me about Boon and the Serpents?” she asked. She had to get some of this to the Captain. She found an in use frequency and linked it as ‘receive’ only so they’d not transmit anything. She set the volume on low on her scanner and then opened up the comms.

[o] Captain, I’m linking you in to the comms frequency from the helmet to maybe hear some chatter. [c] with that she pressed the button to start the comms flow.

The shocked woman meanwhile seemed to be watching the group more intently now, observing how they worked, and peeking over at what they were doing on the computer. So far she didn’t say anything but it didn’t take a genius to figure enough puzzling in her even shocked mind would likely figure these landing party wasn’t local to the planet.

Another growl rumbled low in her throat as she heard the comm. [O]Copy that,[O] she responded and lent half an ear to the comm as she glanced for Black.

A burst of static was the first thing El got as she ran through the dial frequencies.

El let out a quiet curse in Mandarin as she was met with static. However, more frequencies to choose from there, she thought as she continued an auto scan ..

With a final beep beep, from the computer, a video and audio file came up in a black/green coloring pattern. A suited newscaster like humanoid alien was there and through their UT tie in spoke in the normal alien tongue. =/\= A War to end all wars is promised by the southern MacArm generals! However, I good president Willson assures all good people of the north that a war to end us all will not occur while he is in office. Conventional arms only are what he promises to use and what Dictator Franks has also promised to constrain himself too. Our fight over natural resources and land will continue both say, but we promise in joint unity not to destroy the fragility of our world either. =/\= it said.

“So much for good intentions,” El muttered. Earth was not that far removed from its wars that had devastated much. She understood reasons for war but didn’t yet know enough beyond ‘I want this rock’. “Wonder what kind of resources they are meaning?” El asked Roger. Then, having for the moment forgotten about the girl, was surprised when she chimed in.

At this the final pin seemed to drop for their shocked civilian. Confusion was clear across her face now and she unsteadily rose pointing a finger at El then the computer where the UT sat. “..Why are you ....you using that device to translate?” She demanded.

“Because we’re not from here and don’t want to be here but your war caught us up in it and whatever you are doing we need to figure out and stop or else we’ll not get home,” she snapped back. Then, the radio found something ..

Just as the woman said this El picked up a bit of radio traffic from down the street a quarter mile away. =/\= Squad Season to frontline HQ we’ve secured an officer prisoner. Seems like they are part of the egghead bureau. Requesting permission to grill the egg head here and now and dump his useless weight after unless he has priority 2 or higher intel? =/\= A male voice in the alien tongue said again translated a second later by their UT.

El forwarded this to the Captain. She was sure that she had heard it thanks to her patch but wanted to make sure.

“So, the newspapers and news related things we have seen, suggest they want to have a peaceful war, but the way they are actually treating each other, this war is harsh.” Lt. Sanks responded after watching the video.
Lt. Sanks, Linguist

“It is easy to get out of hand,” she said. “Was there some kind of shortage of materials? Strategic resources?” she mused to Roger.
