“Well long story short, we just made first contact with two new alien species. One came over to the ship to talk to us, and apparently he can phase through solid matter, as we can see in the footage. How he does it is a complete mystery. But security is concerned he might still be lurking around the ship. I’m mostly interested in learning how he can phase through solid matter.

“Let’s head to the bridge and see if we can figure out he did it. We at least have a confirmed entry point there that we should be able to examine. That is unless one of you wants to stay here and examine what the internal sensors still have to tell us.”

Naomi frowned at missing such an opportunity. New species didn’t pop out of thin air very often and the studying potential had eluded through her fingers. This left her to wonder how it might’ve turned out if she was there. Pushing aside the mixed emotions, she turned to the CSO.

She had one theory that the alien might’ve been able to shift his molecular structure from solid into a gas. This would enable him to pass through walls easily, but she would need evidence that supported her theory. That required scanning the section, noting any changes in temperature or other matter. Naomi rubbed her chin then volunteered.

“I can stay here and examine the internal sensors. Afterward, I can meet with you on the bridge with the findings. I might learn something from the scans that might’ve been missed.”

“Sounds good. We’ll meet you up there.”

Alison turned towards Frank, “Come on Lieutenant. Grab yourself a scanner and let’s go see if we can get any more detailed readings on the bridge.”

Picking up a scanner herself she headed for the lift.

Frank grumbled something under his breath and went to go grab his scanner. Hoisting the thing by the strap over his shoulder he groaned under the weight. Not that it was that heavy, perhaps a little bulky, but he just didn’t like to pack around the equipment necessarily.

Clambering back into the main lab he falls in with Alison and sighs, “After you, Ma’am. I am right behind you.”

As the pair left the lab, Naomi smirked quietly. She was certainly happy not to have to carry around the oversized scanner. The thing appeared to weigh quite a bit and she was still stiff from last night, her reading posture rather poor. A bad habit she developed during the times she attempted to sneak reading holo novels when she was supposed to be studying. Casually Naomi sat down at the computer and brought up the scanner’s information. First, she located the exact point where the entity entered. She looked into past readings over the location’s last maintenance scans for comparison when it came to differences in temperature, any notable vibrations, radiation signatures, or anything else.

Every possible thing she could think of was considered in her request for data.

Now she just needed to wait for the feedback. Casually she leaned back into a more comfortable position while watching the screen, expecting the familiar text to jerk across the screen any moment. A pen and paper were on hand to jot down notes over her findings. She still didn’t fully trust her PADD not to crash or glitch out.

Silva waited with Locke, holding the briefcase in front of him and waving it through the air as he waited for the computer to return whatever results it was going to return.
