“I’m not very knowledgeable about aircraft in general, but it’s likely what we’re looking for is still in the actual plane itself. At least, I’m assuming it is.”

Approaching the downed jet, their hand scanners would ping again showing a rise in the radiation leakage. It wasn’t too high but they probably would not want to linger here too long. They could indeed though find not just the flight recorder but also the comms array. The wreckage was mostly intact surprisingly and if they hauled it out and to a safe locale they could probably do some jury rigging to their scanners and a power pack to get a better read on it.

Baumann looked at Naomi and said “Try and isolate anything you can on the kinds of weaponry that brought this down. I will see to the flight recorder.” He then looked at NE Holstead. “Michael, please see to the comm array. We need it intact, please, so be gentle.” As the big German began combing through the wreckage after the flight recorder he kept his eyes open for any personal effects, pilot logbook, or anything else of interest.

Combing through the wreckage the only personal effect he found was a half burned satchel which inside he found half burned up food packs and a picture of what seemed a family in civilian garb.

Baumann pocketed the picture and packed up the flight recorder.

Naomi agreed, but she had little idea how to gain the information Baumann wanted. With a soft sigh, she approached the first piece of the fallen shell. She ran a few scans over the more heavily damaged sections for material compositions, residue, or other readouts. Anything that might be useful. Part of her wished she had taken a field kit to collect physical samples.

Mentally, she tried to reconstruct the attack from when she spotted the craft fall from the sky.

Finding the comm array by a hand scanner was an easy process. Interestingly as Naomi got nearer to the remains she could see it was quite close in design to the comm arrays used on the Bonaventure and other Earth ships! It was a bit bigger and bulkier but it showed a lot of signs of being quite the same. Disconnecting it as a result would be easy now that she knew and saw this. Though it was quite warm from the crash of the jet salvage and repairs should be possible.

Make up though of much of the jet were advanced titanium polymers and structural components. Quite well made actually for a society that seemed barely out of what would be the stylings of Earth’s 1940s-60s. The tech they had seen was an odd mix of the familiar, the advanced and the primitive. Quite a mystery they were developing.

Once he had finished, he moved closer to Naomi. “Anything of note? We shouldn’t remain exposed too long.”
