“No worries Lieutenant. We can talk about the theoretical discoveries later. Right now we are trying to come up with a way to locate our guest to make sure he has left the ship,” Alison said turning briefly towards Naomi.

“ ‘Guest’, Ma’am?” Naomi asked, appearing genuine confused as she moved to a computer.

“So,” she said looking back at Frank, “the theory is pretty sound. There should be some sort of lingering disturbance as he passed through the material. And it is a pretty sound theory as we use it all the time. It’s how we can track ships in space, by looking at the wakes. The key though is identifying Bane’s wake. We have the exact time he came onto the bridge…”

Alison trailed off as she thought about it for a second. Could it really be that easy?

“Let’s start with the sensor logs in that section, and look specifically at the minute prior to his arrival on the bridge to one minute after he appears. See if we can detect anything with the onboard sensors, before we have to dive in for a more detailed look.”

On a broad sense, like the recordings off the bridge, and what sensor information there was, it was pretty limited to the point of ‘seeing’ Bane essentially come through as as a wisp of smoke or mist, but it didn’t set off any hull integrity alarms or anything like that.

What they had was a visual, the sensor information broadly picking him up as he formed into the being, and a more focused scan on the two bulkhead areas where he entered and left. It looked like it may be down to hand held devices scanning the bulkheads for the defined ‘wake’.

Alison cursed under her breath. “Would one of you be able to take a look at this. Because I’m not seeing anything concrete here. I want to double check before we have to go down and start scanning the bulkheads ourselves.”

Frank narrows his eyes as the looks at the readings and then over to Naomi before running his finger across the image. “Well I think we may need to go scan bulkheads manually, because that seems like the best course of action here.”

“Considering you know more than I do on this matter, I’ll follow your lead. I’m still lost about what theory was mentioned about him passing through walls or anything else on this conversation,” Naomi truthfully admitted.

Though it irritated her, she accepted the fact it was her own fault she was late and lacked information. Personally, she felt it was better to figure out how this individual actually did his phasing through materials first then figure a way about how to track if he was still in the ship. She couldn’t help but wonder if the individual on the security feed could actually alter his physic form between solid and gas. However, it seemed that the theory was already ruled out and discarded in favor of another. So she chose to keep her mouth shut in order to simply follow the leader.

“Well long story short, we just made first contact with two new alien species. One came over to the ship to talk to us, and apparently he can phase through solid matter, as we can see in the footage. How he does it is a complete mystery. But security is concerned he might still be lurking around the ship. I’m mostly interested in learning how he can phase through solid matter.

“Let’s head to the bridge and see if we can figure out he did it. We at least have a confirmed entry point there that we should be able to examine. That is unless one of you wants to stay here and examine what the internal sensors still have to tell us.”

Naomi frowned at missing such an opportunity. New species didn’t pop out of thin air very often and the studying potential had eluded through her fingers. This left her to wonder how it might’ve turned out if she was there. Pushing aside the mixed emotions, she turned to the CSO.

She had one theory that the alien might’ve been able to shift his molecular structure from solid into a gas. This would enable him to pass through walls easily, but she would need evidence that supported her theory. That required scanning the section, noting any changes in temperature or other matter. Naomi rubbed her chin then volunteered.

“I can stay here and examine the internal sensors. Afterward, I can meet with you on the bridge with the findings. I might learn something from the scans that might’ve been missed.”

“Sounds good. We’ll meet you up there.”

Alison turned towards Frank, “Come on Lieutenant. Grab yourself a scanner and let’s go see if we can get any more detailed readings on the bridge.”

Picking up a scanner herself she headed for the lift.
