El was eager to find out what was going on. Sure that meant heading ‘toward’ the skirmishing ahead but it didn’t sound to be any kind of full scale rioting happening but only localized. That meant that there were a lot of people who would not be involved and who could be chatty, even if holed up in a basement. She reached into her satchel and pulled out a small binocular device and looked ‘behind’ them along the road. She was looking in particular for another road sign that noted another town or place where they could say they were from. If they were ‘country hicks’ as the Captain suggested they should have some kind of reference point when the locals here asked where they were from.

  • El, Eng

Looking back along the road, just at the edge of her vision for scanning with the binoculars she could make out a tiny similar green sign to the one nearby. Pointed south it read in the dual line of script in the alien language then below it in English, Wash Township 28 miles.

Lt. Sanks almost walked into Lt. Prescott as he was scanning the sign and hearing the captain say the need to pair up. “Lt. Prescott, what do you make of this? the translator can’t pick up the top language, but claims that the bottom is a form of English. But if we haven’t made first contact, how would they know our language? Unless a species that has met us has been here before, is that possible?” He was just brainstorming, but he was starting to think it would be a good idea for him to partner up with Lt. Prescott for this mission. “I’m working on the library as well Captain.” he responded to the orders from the Captain.

Ari sighed. “Well, let’s go. Whatever the reasons, I am sure we we get at least some of our questions answered.” She murmured under her breath, I hope.

They headed towards the ‘town’ to see what they could glenn. She hoped it wouldn’t take long to find out what was happening and that the other team was equally, swiftly, successful.

As they headed towards town, she referred to her own scanner now and then and wondered just how this planet came to be so much like their own Earth.

Liz frowned at the question a moment in thought. “My guess is, humans have been settling the galaxy for some time. Maybe this is a place where humans found locals and thrived easily. Perhaps the alien race is the dominant one. Though,” she smiled and winked at him, “it would certainly mean that Common was the alien language here. Wouldn’t it?” She laughed lightly and started following the Captain. “It would be intriguing, though, wouldn’t it? A planet, close to Earth in nearly all aspects. A true ‘Goldilocks’ planet, complete with indigenous life in a warp society. And humans land here, are welcomed, and thrive. But then something happens.” She frowned once more. “Leave it to humans to mess up yet another planet, huh?” She shrugged and exhaled. Pity, really. Humans were truly as destructive as history seemed to make them out to be. Didn’t surprise her, really, that they would find someplace excellent to live, then screw it up. She wondered what Baumann’s thoughts on such a line of reasoning would be.

“Right, we just hopped onto wooden ships, caught a good headwind and found ourselves in space, noticed a planet some light years away and went, hey, let’s stop there,” El murmured. Really, didn’t anyone teach history anymore? Sure that kind of story would be utterly wonderful and romantic, but nothing from archaeology or history supported that. Aliens plucking us away, maybe, but not on our own steam. Oh humans would dominate space in time. El was sure of that

Roger fell in step with the rest of the crew, keeping his eyes and ears on full alert, and taking it everything around him. He was also paying keen attention to the interactions the crew members had with each other. Being stationed on the night crew meant he didn’t have much opportunity to work with these crewmembers so he was getting to know a lot of these people for what felt like the first time.

As the group continued to walk down the road a distant rumble was felt from ahead something was plodding along behind the high rise buildings they were approaching. The color tones were mostly white, grey, tan in color tones. Made up of brick/mortar or more often reinforced concrete. Ahead a collective wreck of tired vehicles were aflame having it seemed once also had the ability to hover the shocks of bombing producing EMP effects had knocked them out and they collided where they now sat. No sign of anyone alive was present, but they did get their first look of the local alien life from a nearby corpse.

El was initially more interested in the vehicles. She moved up to one and scanned it with here device and visually. “Hovercraft,” she said. They looked like they tanked where they were. “Possible EMP knocked them out, but not bad for tech.” Which meant they had not made provision in their tech for that but went the easy route much like most nations on Earth. She looked in the direction of the rumble. Something big was moving, likely military. Nothing civilian would make that kind of noise. She looked inside one of the vehicles that wasn’t burning. Was there a newspaper or something that they could use for language deciphering.

In fact there WAS a newspaper caught between the seats. Folded in a rolled up manner. It was split between the alien like script followed by sections in English!

El snapped up the newspaper and scanned it. “Oh you beautiful thing,” she said, letting her glasses take in the script even as she scanned headlines to see whether there was any ‘War’ news. Backing away from the broken craft she then waved it at their linguist. “Roger!” She called. “An early Christmas present for you.”

Medical scans showed it was similar to a human, both in shape and appearance, this was good for the humans among the crew as they could most likely blend in without too much trouble. Only on a genetic scan were variances picked up indicating they weren’t human at all, the race showed signs for example of stronger muscular, as well as a higher healing factor then a human.

“Human? Is that one of us?” she asked. It looked like them, but was that the human part or the ‘alien’ part? Sounds of shouts caught her ears and she tried to catch individual voices. Her hand shifted to where her phaser was just to make sure it was there and accessible but she felt that they could just as easily blend in and observe. The ‘law’ would be focused more on the trouble people than those who were not causing trouble, at least for now.

Further ahead Lexi’ton beckoned the sounds of arguing, shouting, likely rioting evident, as well as shouts of local forces of likely police or something similar demanding it stop. It was clear the local populace was in upheaval the civilians wanting answers and help or some taking advantage of the situation. While the local defense forces for keeping order were clearly overwhelmed to provide control and relief.

Rachel discretely scanned the corpse, crouching near it. She furrowed her brow at the results and double-checked “Well they’re humanoid and very similar to us” She said quietly “But expect higher endurance, strength, and healing factors beyond what we possess” She resisted the urge to take a sample, this was not the first corpse she’d dealt with and was unlikely to be the last.

Dr. Grey - CMO

“But are they us, or them?” El asked.

GM CockRoach

Rachel stood up and looked at the engineer with a weird look on her face “I can’t speak for the entire population but this’n here is nay a human on a genetic level” She answered cocking her head to the side looking deeper into the town.

Dr. Grey - CMO

“Why? Because they have some better genes? How can they ‘look’ like us but aren’t us?” Somehow that seemed utterly creepy to El. It wasn’t right, well, not in her books. The villains were supposed to be different. Well, in whichever way the villains were; she didn’t rule out that the human population may have taken up that role. Her focus went back to the rumbling. Which side were ‘they’ on? And, in that regard, which side would ‘they - as in the Bonnie crew’ be on? Sure this was not a ‘sides’ issue but an exploration issue. She snorted to herself, something that her mother always said wasn’t ‘ladylike’ .. as if ‘any’ story she ever read had seen the protagonists being neutral.

Lt. Sanks continued working on the language library he was creating for the Captain. He slightly chuckled at El’s snort. He always found it cute in a way whenever he heard it. “So, they look like us, and have some knowledge of how to write like us, who are they?” Lt. Sanks asked thinking out loud and to particularly no one as he was still looking at the pad he was using to create the library.

Lt. Isaac was still keeping an eye out trying to keep the team safe. He was keeping close to the team so if anything happens he can act fast.
