Once everyone was assembled, they headed for the transporter room. With luck the other team was already down and they wouldn’t be hovering in the hallway long.

“All right, everyone. Weapons up and hidden. I want them brought out only in an emergency. We’re trying to figure out how to get out of here, not become part of their history.” She smiled but her nerves were showing a bit, for those who knew her.

Heading into the hallway and towards the transporter room, she listened to the light hearted banter of the crew. When Elizabeth joined them on the deck, she smiled. “Will be nice to have another brain around. Things working out all right in Intel for you with Baumann?” She had approved the woman’s transfer and was glad her love had someone to help him. As Captain, this was one of the jobs she couldn’t help with. Sometimes he would have to keep things from her and they had managed so far.

She just hoped it didn’t get to the point it was a strain.

Elizabeth nodded to the Captain as she joined the small entourage heading down the corridor. “Yes, Ma’am. It’s been great. I had no idea so much went into missions and transmissions and logs and everything else.” She laughed lightly as the sense of overwhelming knowledge rolled off her. It was true she was learning a lot. She just hoped it was enough to be a good asset to the Captain on this team.

NC Chief looked up as the Captain’s team filed in. “..You folks all ready? I’ll be setting you down about 100 yards outside a large town maybe a small city depending on your views. The place is awash in turmoil but that should provide good cover for you till things settle down, plus there doesn’t appear to be too much looting or rioting by the local populace.” He said.

“Perfect, Chief. Thank you. And I know it’s a lot. But let me know the first thing if you lose the ability to get us back. I have Travors is on standby at the shuttle, but he won’t be able to grab both teams quickly if things go sideways.”

Smiling at the others, she nodded and stepped onto the dais. Protocol would put a security and a medical staff with her in first beam down. She knew they all knew their roles and wouldn’t have to give instructions. The rest would trickle down as the transporter was ready. “All right folks, let’s get down there so we can get back.”

Roger stood off to the side, likely to be with the second group to be transported. He wondered what they would find there on the planet. He was quite curious what the locals were like and to learn more about what had happened here.

El awaited her turn to go down. In preparation she pulled up the hood of her, ah, hoodie and put on her glasses and running it through a start up diagnostic especially with the low light augmentation. All of her gear but for the satchel she wore at her side was stowed inside the pockets of her coat, and her sidearm on her belt under the excess space of the hoodie. She was ready, eager but feeling cautious; it was not ‘that’ many decades beyond Earth’s near meltdown and this looked all the worse. A small town. A city. It could be both to her. Growing up on an island any town seemed big, but then when she had visited China’s mainland those cities dwarfed anything she saw in England when she was doing her schooling and training. As an engineer her eyes flickered to the operator. She didn’t really know the NC Chief well yet. At one point when he glanced her way she gave him a thumbs up.

With a hum the entire team group by group was brought down from the Bonnie safely by transport. The team as indicated by the NE chief earlier was outside a large town or small city. They currently were among some dense scrub which was already being coated by a film of dirt, dust, ash, and snow from nuclear fallout. Thankfully with the precautions taken before they wouldn’t have to worry about fallout for a little while. In the distance sirens were weakly wailing, and a ballistic gun shot or two echoed by shouting was heard, but nothing was nearby.

The only other thing evident to their proximity was a road going north and south a sign in the local language alphabet they couldn’t decipher was interesting echoed by one in english just below it! It read North-South Rt 116. Nearby was a green sign in the same duel alien/english script. It read Lexi’ton 1/2 mile. The fact they were referencing Earth based measurements and such was quite....odd to say the least.

Isaac was with his group he had a MaCo phase pistols In a holster within his jacket he kept his eyes open for anything that meant danger.

El glanced at the scrub. It was different from the more tropical or sub tropical foliage that she was used to growing up and certainly not quite like the English hedges and heather. Her nose wrinkled at the dust and unconsciously she pulled the hoodie up further. Her toe kicked at the dust on the ground, stirring up a small cloud. She would be having one serious shower later on after this, she thought. She scanned the horizon for the source of the sounds but it looked like it was yet too far away to tell. Squinting at the sign she spoke up. “If we’re one of the first humans out in space how can we have a world like this?”

Moving over closer to where Roger was she commented, “Talk about Rosetta Stones. If this is common it will make your translation pretty easy.” Indeed already she was putting her mind to that and took out her scanner to record that for a possible translation matrix. What was the tech here? Ballistic weapons? Plasma weapon platforms? Nuclear missiles? An impossible colony from Earth? The idea was perplexing but exciting too to consider.

Rachel looked around the area for a moment whilst casually checking to see if all her fingers and toes were still there. She knew there were no real health risks to transporters but still, she’d yet to find an engineer she trusted with pulling her apart then putting her back together on a molecular level. She cocked her head as she read the sign. “Lexi’ton” She read aloud “If we do make contact we should try’n hear what they sound like, if they be humans mayhaps they speak in some odd creole or american.”

El certainly agreed with that. By all rights, the town on the horizon looked Earthy. The language seemed English. She’d be happy with some good old fashioned Chinese characters though. While her accent was not a strong Asian one it was certainly not ‘North American’ in any of its varieties. She pulled out her scanner from one of her coat pockets and, shielding the lit up display with her hands ran a scan, first for radiation levels and if, where they were heading it was higher, and second, for energy readings that went beyond normal street light levels. She could have done a scan for life signs but they could hear them ahead and so seemed unnecessary.
