Ari had finished her conversation with Baumann and was entering the shuttle bay when she decided, he was right. Transporters would be less conspicuous and faster. She just hoped with the distance and interference, they weren’t gonna suffer losses to the damned tech.
She stood just inside the shuttle bay with a small bag on her back. She had some water and a packet of rations. Enough to feed five people for two days if necessary. She also had her scanner and her comm link. A phaser was on her hip just under her untucked shirt and she had her hair down and loose to help hide her face if necessary. Standing at the small console just inside the door, she went over a few ship issues and left some quick notes for McKnight in case they didn’t come back in the few hours they were giving themselves. Or, worse case scenario, if they didn’t come back at all. Protocols were in place for such things, but small suggestions and notes weren’t gonna hurt and it kept her busy instead of thinking of Wulf going to the military installation without her. She knew duty came first, for them both, but sometimes it still stung.
She was absently humming one of his favorite tunes as the others arrived.
Captain Arialla Bovar
CONaomi had paled when she heard her name called for a mission. Like all the others, she changed from her uniform into civilian clothing without question. While she liked the change in dress code, the reason caused her discomfort. Missions never really went well in her head. She hoped the plan wouldn’t snap into pieces when they made contact.
Upon catching Ari’s melody, the woman rolled her eyes and her posture relaxed. She strolled up to the CO.
“It’s nice to see someone’s excited. I’m more of a bundle of nerves.”
–ENS Naomi D. Locke, Sci
Ari turned to Naomi, hearing her nervousness. “I guess I get excited about new and unknown things a bit more than I should. But look at it from a science standpoint. We are going to a planet that’s technologically advanced, yet still persists at mundane war. And to top it off, they managed to toss their entire planet into another location. Be it time, or space, or dimension, that, in and of itself, is an amazing feat I want to find out about.”
Laughing, she leaned in and winked. “But I admit, I’m also scared out of my mind for those self same reasons.” She shrugged and set her bag on the deck. “We’ll wait for the others then head to the transporter room. Baumann was right in that. Transporting down will be less conspicuous. I just hope the transporters can handle the load and we don’t need an emergency beam out.” The last few words held an edge of fear to them that was swiftly dampened down as she smiled once more and nodded to an NE Security officer who arrived and set his own bag on the floor.
“Jamison, glad you’ll be joining us. I hope you have your med kit and gear in check?” She knew he did but wanted the reassurance anyway. This was no walk in the park on some pleasure estate.
“Yes, Ma’am. All set. Rations for ten for two days as well.” He smiled at the Captain.
Ari
CORachel arrived next in the shuttle bay. Her normally wild mane was held together in a simple long braid and tied at the end with a leather band. Across her shoulder was a plain satchel which held her medical scanner, doctor’s kit and supplies. She wore a short coat and simple boots. stuffed in the right boot was a single retractable baton, her favored weapon. She flashed the Captain and Naomi her crooked grin “This’ll be an interesting trip eh?”
Dr. Grey - CMO
Coming in just behind her was the burly figure of the new CSO. He looked positively excited, dressed in the appropriate civilian attire. He walked over to those who were already there. “Are we ready for some adventure?” He asked, his eyes flashing, his lips curled into a grin.
-Roger Ferguson, CSO
Before Noami could reply, others began to file in.
She casually glanced at them in order to note their appearance and give them an acknowledging nod. A small, soured frown crossed her lips when she heard the CSO mention adventure.
“I’m more nervous. It feels I’m destined to get hurt on these things and I like not being confined to a bed.” Naomi mumbled as she then added for Ari’s comment.
“I feel like you have better luck with these than I do. I tend to feel like I’m useless half the time because I’m not sure what I’m doing.”
–ENS Naomi D. Locke, Sci
Ari watched everyone filter in and smiled. Her nod was for Naomi. “Well, we are all gonna feel a bit lost, I am afraid. We are exploring a planet that shouldn’t be here and we’re not in the best shape, ourselves. So let’s see what happened, how and why, and try and get it fixed so we can go home. Sound good?”“
She waited for everyone’s response then nodded to the door. “Baumann brought up a good point about a shuttle being a bit bulky. I’m guessing Away Team 2 has already beamed out. So now we are going to do the same. Everyone meet in the transporter room.” She moved out of the area and headed down the hall expecting others to follow and pass word on to those coming behind.
She didn’t like the compliments of the teams, but there was nothing to be done. These were dire measures they needed to take in dire times.
Ari
CO
((space for responses, but speeding up and getting us to transporter room))Fleet looked a bit unhappy about the change of plans. For one, he didn’t have much reason to be on this mission if they were beaming down. Another reason he was unhappy was because he didn’t really… like transporters.
He followed after the rest of the group.
Fleet, Helm
Roger followed along with the captain excited about being on his first away mission since joining the ship.
Ensign Sanks, LinguistFor as long as she knew Arialla on the ship, the woman’s sunshine shone in full brilliance. Not even dimmed by Naomi’s negativity. She wondered how Ari could do it and not go insane from the sheer responsibility of being the CO.
“I never said I wouldn’t try. I’m just being a pessimist.” Naomi had to admit she did sound worse than a wet mop.
When Noami noticed Kenneth creep in at the back of the rest of the arrivals, her eyes widened in surprise and she cocked her head. She didn’t expect to see him here, but the sight of him eased her jitters. Her figure stalled to let the others pass. As she hoisted up whatever gear had been assigned to her, she fell in beside him and nudged him lightly with her elbow.
“You look about as happy as I do about this. I’ll tell you what, after this, we’ll schedule a movie night. We’ll watch your favorite.” She hoped the small treat might perk him up as she followed the others into the transporter room.

El had arrived just as the Captain had begun to head them out to the transporter room. They would have to go down in four separate groups, she noted as she counted the numbers. She was excited. It would be her first transport - and away mission in her career - and that into a nuclear maelstrom in a technologically .. lesser planet. But not by too much, she noted. She chewed a knuckle with some nervous excitement as she waited for the others to file past her whereupon she took up the rear. The knuckle was one step up from her usual nail biting; she took that to be a therapeutic improvement, but wanted the doc to be in front of her as she did it.
She had taken time to … finesse. What was ‘she’ doing on a mission to an alien planet to presumably blend in, what with her distinct Asian features and all. To forestall that she wore a kind of rugged trouser, hiking style boots and a hoodie over a dark tee. That would cover her head and hair and hide her features reasonably well; she worried more of her accent but then what would she find for how the people spoke? Over that she wore a trench style coat that had pockets, and over that a shoulder satchel. On her person she had her scanner and what she deemed to be more of an all purpose multi-tool that, between the scanner and it would work as a useful lock pick. She sported some anti-radiation tablets and a pair of glasses that were a mix of night vision and a more limited scan potential and able to yield some data across the screen on what she was seeing. They could zoom but not that far. But it was a work in progress. Her pistol was in a pocket in her coat.
- El, EngOOC: Continuing as I was interrupted on the last post ..
IC:
El had a number of energy bars in the pockets of her coat accompanied by a bottle of water purification tablets. Between her coat, hoodie and glasses she felt that her features would be sufficiently camouflaged. She had read a number of post apocalyptic novels of the present and past and every one seemed to have groups who traveled the tundras poaching supplies and were heavily armed. By the looks of it this wasn’t one of them, but it did appear so romantic in the novels. This was just the beginning of the woes of the planet; by the look of it the exchange was much worse than what happened on Earth. El figured she was as prepared as she could be given it to be a meet and mingle kind of mission. Inwardly she envied the chief who was going to be looking at military operations which meant their tech. El feared the greatest tech she would run into would be an expresso machine, though there could be worse tech to meet up with.“Where are we beaming down to?” she asked, not to anyone in particular but to the group at large ahead of them. “And what are we looking for?” She had been called to be a part of the mission; at the moment she still didn’t quite know why.
- El, EngRoger saw El, and started walking with her. “I’m glad you’re in our group, how are you?” he asked her.
Lt. Sanks, linguist
Rachel followed the team quietly. She carried herself a little differently, walking slightly crooked so as not to draw attention to her unusual height. She listened in on the conversations going on without input.
