More status reports started coming in from about the ship. Most were related to power draws, and the like since their arrival to the system. So far things were normal, barring of course the warp drive being inoperable due to the fourth planet. There also was the fact they seemed to be under attack by someone or something as thuds of impact were felt along the hull with the hull polzaration system taking the brunt of the impacts.

“Okay, it seems like we are losing power to critical systems. Let’s see what we can do to stop the power drains before something critical goes down.”

With the brief combat over things soon settled back to approaching normal in the engine room.

El felt the last of the shuddering on the hull. That one felt like it was under her feet. Catching her bearings from that she figured that they must have been maneuvering away from the planet and were ‘above’ it, relatively speaking. Hull strength was at 92%. Now how much of that was ‘localized hull’ and how much of that was ‘powered through the polarization’? Yes, the damage to the polarization ate away at the conductive surface which in turn caused degradation with the hull strength. The question was whether that was isolated to a particular region of the hull or dissipated throughout. If the former perhaps she could work out a way to repair that. Did they have canisters of the superconductive paint necessary? El couldn’t remember but then she didn’t know everything that was in stores. If so she could work a team to go out and ‘repair’ those areas.

Repainting of the hull was probably for now a low priority task, for now decontaminating the laundry room seemed to be the orders of the day.

The chief would, in the end, determine if that was something they should do. He was on the bridge and she was here. Now that was only a couple decks difference but still it gave her a bit of time to think of things. It was her purview after all, in being, for now, the ranking officer, to think of these things. She added it to a list of items, as well as a thought that in the future there should be an automatic function where any increase in radiation - especially localized about the hull - should govern a response to the ship systems to raise their shielding level rather than find out after the damage had been done. She jotted that down on her ‘list’ of ideas and things to do.

Her chrono indicated that Galen and Dorian had only been at the job for a few minutes. Not long enough to bother them for an update. As much as she could feel like a mother hen right now she resisted. Her ‘curiosity’, however, did overcome her in her peeking at the exterior sensors to find out what was going on around this ‘sudden planet’. How did that just appear? Why now? And with all the gravimetric instability would they be able to get out of there again or were they stuck? Was there a way to devise a warp field that could cut through the interference like a spearpoint. Kind of like diving into a swimming pool where one would make headway but would have the resistance and eventually stop. Another thing to bring up with the chief, but that said, her mind was still awash with mathematical calculations around this.

El considered the power necessary to ‘move a planet’. The planet looked like it belonged there. It wasn’t just moving into it. So perhaps it was .. what? “Chief, what do you think? Did the planet go out of phase and we saw it reappear? Or do you think it did some kind of time jump? The fact that it looks like it appeared where it should have been implies a lot of factors - orbit which means that it wasn’t actually moving in that time?” The possibilities seemed endless the more she thought of it - and the calculations!
