[snip]“Captain, what if we tapped into the satellites and we might be able to intercept their own scan data, and get a better reading of the surface. Without having to get closer to the planet.”
Cmdr. McKnight - XO
With everything that was happening, it took a large chunk of Naomi’s focus to not panic. She managed not to fall during the attack, but it rattled her. Her hand trembled as she continued to scan for the language. Whenever she found some, she fed it back to their Linguist to analyzing and continued to look for more. When it came unknown language, she was practically useless.

Kenny kept them at a higher orbit, glancing nervously at the Captain. “Ah, wasn’t expecting that reaction,” he muttered, slowly controlling the Bonnie to pull a little further away from the planet, maintaining a stable orbit. He was glad his job required him to sit.
Fleet, Helm
Ari growled in the back of her mind. This whole thing made no sense. Despite the fact it was probably one of those scenarios she dreamed of having to solve, she was pretty sure being in the middle of it without a reset button wasn’t her first choice.
She nodded to Jonathan. “Scan all available satellites. Let’s see who owns which ones and see if we can’t figure out who they are, what this damnable war is about and if they are even aware anything strange has happened.”
Her own hand was slowly glossing over her chair console with possible ideas…
Nuclear warhead opened up nearby wormhole…
Plasma weapons leeched out and created unstable time/distance rip…
Her mind went over other possibilities as well… satellites created magnification that upended and inverted time/spaceIt seemed ridiculous, but she added the last to the list as well. She then told the computer to use known and incoming data to see which were possible.

Baumann watched and thought. The destruction they were seeing was directed and specific. Cities and tactically advantageous areas. So contrary to the supposition that the 0labet below had been ‘tinkering’ with something, Wulf was very doubtful. He looked at the XO and CO and said quietly “I think believing the planet is in the wrong place may be assuming things. Another possibility is that it has always been here, but no one knew… or someone knew and either didn’t or couldn’t say anything. The disparities of technological development are too obvious for us to assume anything other than some outside interference… at least for now. I would recommend scanning for energy signatures similar to our own.”
Baumann, Intel
Jonathan looker over at Baumann, he wasn’t sure if he liked that idea. But then again, it was the Commanders job to think of those sort of crazy things. “I think I liked the idea of being in the wrong place at the wrong time, more then there is some sort of secret organization out there stealing people away. But, we can see if we can match any energy signatures with our database after we tap into the satellite array.
“Now,” he said as he turned back towards the science station, “let’s see what we can find out. I’m thinking we start with the first statellite. The second one seemed to have a more robust backup system, so its systems might be better protected.”
Cmdr. McKnight - XO
Ari had risen and paced only to sit again. Then she repeated the process as the computers were doing their looking. Finally she shook her head and exhaled a deep breath. “We need to go to the surface. We aren’t going to learn much from up here. The question is, where can we land that’s far enough from people to not draw suspicion and close enough we don’t have a two day hike to civilization? Let’s see if there is a way to make this happen. XO, you’ll take the bridge, Baumann, I want you with me. I also want someone from each of science, security, medical and engineering. Let’s see if we can figure out what’s happening. And who knows… maybe we can even figure out how to get out of here while we’re there.”
She glanced around to see that everyone understood.

“Captain, I would suggest we try and get a sense of the… shall we say ‘dress code’… before we go. Dropping down into a war zone in uniforms neither side is familiar with is an almost certain way to get shot on sight.”
Baumann, Intel
For the person at comms or science getting a scan of dress code for civilians was pretty straight forward. Almost to a tee....shirt (groan sorry I couldnt resist!) the style of dress was straight out of Earth’s late 40s to early-mid 50s era of fashion. For military personnel there seemed to be two sorts of uniforms one which carried the markings of ESC for the aforementioned Eng-Sci-Com military service, and the other for the MA for the Mac-Arm military service. The first seemed to be based in the northern parts of the planet, while the second were mostly based in the southern half.
Garb for the ESC forces were jumpsuits made of thick cloth, and leather paddings overlaid for the more ‘grunt’ sort with heavy duty metal-plastic ceramics. They were in many ways quite similar to Earth Starfleet civilian cargo ship jumpsuits or their own uniform on the Bonaventure. Except they were a dark toned cameo setup. Armaments consisted of .45 caliber handguns and rifles for the civilian arm, slow firing laser pistols for the military grunts, and a .50 caliber hybrid-ballistic/laser assault rifle for the military arm folks all around.
For the MA forces their civlians also were garbed like those on Earth in the late 40s early-mid 50s. Military forces though wore a heavier jumper/armor suit quite similar to combat ready armory forces or MACOs! Cameo patterns were divided between a dark green-forest or dark grey city like tone. Armaments for the civlian force were large Bowie like knives, but no handguns/rifles. Military forces used a laser or plasma based handgun and rifle.

It didn’t surprise her that Baumann was the clearer head for this. She was irritated and realized that, while she would have thought about it about the time they were ready to head down, he had thought of is sooner. “Of course, thank you for the reminder. Let’s figure out where we are touching down and dress accordingly. I don’t want to place civilian attire next to a military installation, nor the other way around.” She moved to the nearest console and glanced over the NE’s shoulder. “Let’s see where we can make the least amount of splash setting down, shall we?” She watched the NE move over the various locations looking for both civilian or military place to land the shuttle without being overly obvious.
Ari
COBaumann again spoke up and said “I would recommend civilian attire, Captain. We don’t know anything about this conflict, so taking sides would be very perilous. We need to observe, not intervene. Someday, perhaps, there will be some sort of a doctrine, something that tells us what we can and cannot do out in situations like this… perhaps even what we should and should not do. But until someone tells us that they have drafted that directive we have to remind ourselves every day that we did not come out here to play God, Captain.”
Baumann, Intel
OOC: Fixing typo… and bonus points to anyone who can tell who Baumann is paraphrasing! lol
James
OOC: Groan........ I hated when they made that statement in Enterprise too...... lol
IC:
“Understood Captain. And I would agree with Commander Baumann. It will be a lot easier to blend in as civilians to start with, instead of trying to pose as members of their military. Though given enough time, we should be able to learn enough to be able to do so.”Cmdr. McKnight - XO
Just then, Prescott’s voice came over the comms. =^=Bridge, Prescott here. I’m getting a slightly elevated power reading just outside one of the main cities. Looks to be just below the surface at about 4.8 kilometers (3 miles) and about 3.2 kilometers (2 miles) outside the city around what seems to be an old military location. Seems abandoned. Might be a good place to start.=^= She wasn’t sure what the bridge had planned. But her own thoughts were that going to the surface would be easier than merely listening to radio signals from up here.

Sec/IntelNaomi’s eyes watched the CO linger over the NE’s shoulder, thankful it wasn’t hers. She listened to the plans being made then wondered where they would all end up. In truth, it didn’t matter much to her yet it was fair to note… her experience with any missions hadn’t been a positive. She subtly sighed as she looked to her DH to decide if she remained or went with him.

The voice of the Chief Medical Officer came from the comm system next [O]Sickbay to Bridge, I’ve released our two irradiated washermen, I haven’t received any new patients, Am I needed anywhere else?”[O]
Dr. Grey - CMO
Roger had been studying the data that he’d been able to gather from the transmissions.
“I believe I have an idea of what attire would be acceptable,” he said, looking over toward the Captain.
