Baumann’s heavy German accented voice could be heard over the chatter of the bridge. “Captain, just some advice. Whomever we are dealing with attacks on site with no cause other than they do not know who or what we are. That says a great deal about their priorities. I recommend caution going forward. The desire to survive can make groups… well, let us just say unpredictable.”

Baumann, Intel

Ari nodded. “I agree. Let’s just hope the attack on us was from scared automatic impulse at the unknown and not someone who recognizes us and doesn’t want us here.” The former, she could live with. The latter… well that presented a whole new set of issues.

“It sure looks that way,” Jonathan said as he was looking through the comm logs they had been capturing. “The satellite transmissions kept referring to us as “Unknown,” and it sounded like they were trying to reach someone back on the planet for help in confirming what we were.

“But they must have taken some major damage to their infrastructure. This one,” he said pointing to one of the logs, “had to re-route to their tertiary location. Lt. Ferguson, you think we can trace the transmission back to wherever they sent the data? And Lt. Sanks, we could use your help in figuring out what the second language we are picking up is.”

Cmdr. McKnight - XO

“Yes,” Roger called out excitedly. “I’ve got a location about twenty miles outside of what remains of a city in the northern continent.” He paused. “The entire region seems to have taken major damage.”

Arialla started pacing once more. “Ok, so we are stuck in a well, unable to move away at any great speed, but can crawl. And there is a planet here, prewarp, that doesn’t seem in great shape. And from all we gather, they also don’t belong here.” She shook her head, biting her lip. Something wasn’t adding up.

“We need to figure a way to find out if those are mere nuclear weapons down there or they were tinkering with something else. If those nuclear devices detonated with something else on the ground, or above, then maybe that’s what kicked them here. We also need to see about widening transmission readings and seeing if they are aware they aren’t under their own stars.” She glanced around to the others. “Can we get decent enough readings from those satellites without getting close enough to get shot at again? If they used those energy weapons in conjunction with something on the ground, that could be the cause.” She knew it was a long shot, but she couldn’t think of anything else that would create enough energy to pull a planet out of space and/or time.

In Intel, Liz tapped a query to the bridge for Baumann. Once there she gave her report. “So I’m still scanning, but so far, as you know, this planet doesn’t belong here. There is also a disconnect in the current timeline on the planet in regards to tech. The planet seems to be similar to Earth, from around 1920 to 1960. Oddly enough, there is a level of technology and weapons that is from Earth’s time around 15 to 30 years ago. Almost like they got a jump on it somehow. The aliens I’m still scanning. My guess is that it’s their tech the planet is using. Perhaps a gift, perhaps stolen. But it would explain the technology being out of line for the maturity of the humanoids.

I’m continuing to scan and try and locate the alien ships. Even if dormant, perhaps they can shed a light on how long the planet has been out of whack on timelines. I’ll let you know more as I figure it out. Anything from up there to add?” She wasn’t sure how much additional information he would have, but she had learned to ask.

Checking in

Lt. Isaac Black (Security)

“Yes sir, I have been running the language through the translator trying to decipher it. I’ll let you know when I got something.” Lt. Sanks responded as he tapped on his console trying to translate and find the origin of the language.
Lt. Sanks, Linguist

“Thank you Lieutenant,” Jonathan said before turning towards the Captain.

“Captain, what if we tapped into the satellites and we might be able to intercept their own scan data, and get a better reading of the surface. Without having to get closer to the planet.”

Cmdr. McKnight - XO

With everything that was happening, it took a large chunk of Naomi’s focus to not panic. She managed not to fall during the attack, but it rattled her. Her hand trembled as she continued to scan for the language. Whenever she found some, she fed it back to their Linguist to analyzing and continued to look for more. When it came unknown language, she was practically useless.

Kenny kept them at a higher orbit, glancing nervously at the Captain. “Ah, wasn’t expecting that reaction,” he muttered, slowly controlling the Bonnie to pull a little further away from the planet, maintaining a stable orbit. He was glad his job required him to sit.

Ari growled in the back of her mind. This whole thing made no sense. Despite the fact it was probably one of those scenarios she dreamed of having to solve, she was pretty sure being in the middle of it without a reset button wasn’t her first choice.

She nodded to Jonathan. “Scan all available satellites. Let’s see who owns which ones and see if we can’t figure out who they are, what this damnable war is about and if they are even aware anything strange has happened.”

Her own hand was slowly glossing over her chair console with possible ideas…

Nuclear warhead opened up nearby wormhole…
Plasma weapons leeched out and created unstable time/distance rip…
Her mind went over other possibilities as well… satellites created magnification that upended and inverted time/space

It seemed ridiculous, but she added the last to the list as well. She then told the computer to use known and incoming data to see which were possible.
