Ari’s voice came over the engineering comms with an edge of worry to it. [O]Engineering, we have a radiation leak somewhere. Reportedly at least one spot is the laundry area. Let’s get that plugged, please. We’re scanning from up here as well. [C] It was a testament to how bad things were on the bridge that her voice betrayed her concern and loss of explanation.

El heard the tone and a look of incredulity came over her face as she scanned the boards. “But everything is green here,” she said in a soft tone that belied a growing knot in her stomach that something was wrong and the ship wasn’t telling her. Laundry area. Swell, glowing skivvies. Swatting the coms link she replied. [O] On it Captain. It’s not the ship, though. Everything is good here. [C] That said she bent her head to the task. What was going on?

Scans of the inside and outside of the ship showed the planet’s recent exchange in near orbit was affecting the local area of space. With now being in a standard orbit pattern they were as it turned out near a thick patch of radioactive waste which had it seems become attached to the ship’s hull near the ship’s laundry room down the hall from main enginerring.

Fast forwarding through the results of the scans El could hardly believe the scope of the sudden devastation that was being unleashed below. Not to mention that the world came out from nowhere. How does a planet in the midst of an extinction level event just appear? Wouldn’t they be, well, a bit busy?

“Wait, hang on,” El said in a low voice as the hull scan results came in. Not to mention the area of space around them. Wrinkling her nose in disgust she considered her options. Radioactive waste? Was the area of space around the planet a junkyard? But how did they attach themselves? Containers with a magnetic component to them? Barnacle like attachments? [O] Bridge, this is Engineering. We seem to have some radioactive space debris or waste on our hull in that area. Science might be able to confirm, but polarizing the hull might repel it. I’m sending out a team to the laundry area to scan for radiation levels, secure affected areas and begin a decontamination procedure. [C]

With that she called out, “Galen! Need Rad-scanners and you and Dorian suited up to take in radiation levels around the laundry room. I’ll run scans and send them to you to triangulate better and seal off high level areas. We’ve got radioactive waste on our hull.”
