Ari smiled as they murmurs of congratulations and nods passed around the bridge. “I think you should return to the Science Bay, at least for a bit. Your fellow crewman need to be informed of the change of command and why Barr is no longer with us. Once everything is settled, by all means, join us back on the bridge.” She smiled and nodded knowing that being on the bridge in the thick of things, was where more department heads preferred to be. But right now, keeping structure and making sure no one was misunderstanding what had occurred was more important. When things happened, and they would, it would happen quickly. And the chain of command was something imperative at such moments.

“And information about the augmented humans, or as much as we know, are in the mission briefs you now have access to. It isn’t much. Just that we definitely don’t want to wake them and let them know we are here. Or this may be one of the shortest missions of the ship.” She tried to laugh and keep it light, but the look on her face was anything but merry.

With the Intel Officer so engrossed in whatever he was working on, Prescott took up the other console beside him and was looking at the code as well. She was sure he knew what it was about, but she was curious if she could figure it out for herself. Wasn’t he always testing her to ‘know more’ and ‘be better’. Now was her chance. Perhaps she could figure it out as well.

Roger smiled and nodded. “Of course, Captain. Wonderful idea. I’m honored to take on this new position and I promise I will do my best.” He stood. “I’m just a call away if you need me.” He said, grinning. Then he turned and made his way back to the turbolift.

Isaac was watching the reading on his Consol Consol keeping an eye out for anything out of place. He then looked up and around the Bridge bridge then he lean back and stretched his back out intill he felt a relaxing pop “ah that’s better”

Lt. Isaac Black (AC)
((fixing split))

Lt. Sanks was still at his console trying to figure out what the morse code was saying. He didn’t want to get the translation wrong, but also wanted to know why someone was using such an old way to communicate.
Lt. Sanks, Linguist

Baumann watched the morse code on the display, and gritted his teeth as the Captain discussed the augments. He had hoped to keep that information out of the gossip mill unless it was absolutely necessary to disclose it to the crew… as in only if they found the vessels. Sighing, he focused on the display and waited for a translation.

Fleet waved at Sanks. “Hey, Rog., send me the Morse Code. Me and my sis used to send each-other Morse Code messages all the time when we were kids and I’m really quick at decoding the stuff. Plus, right now the helming is pretty chill.” He winked.

Elizabeth frowned slightly to herself. How was it so many others ‘grew up’ with something so archaic? Was she the only one on the bridge who knew of but knew nothing about Morse Code?

Baumann looked over at Fleet and said “Precautions must be taken, Mr. Fleet. The computer will give us a solution soon enough and that will be reviewed by Lt. Prescott and myself before we send it on. I would like to ask for your assistance if we need to send a message back, however.”

Baumann, Intel

Ari smiled as Baumann piped up before her. “I agree. I don’t want your attention divided at the helm right now. But I am glad everyone is eager to get involved. Not many ships are that way.” She knew she had a good crew, already. But every time they all tried to pitch in like this, she was once more reminded of it.

Kenny nodded, then turned back to his helming.

At that moment the computer chirped. Baumann looked at the translation and showed it to Prescott, a look of concern on his face. He then transcribed the message 9nto a PaDD and walked over to the center chair and handed the device to Bovar.

The message read: “Earth ship Macalister. Distress. Distress. Please… save the children.”

Baumann, Intel

After checking in with sickbay and engineering, Jonathan made his way back to the bridge. They had everything under control, and should probably have everything ready by the time he made it back to the bridge anyways.

Stepping out of the lift, he stood to the side, trying to figure out what he had missed while he was gone.

Cmdr. McKnight - XO

((chances are this will be short, don’t see need for separate thread))

Ari frowned as Baumann showed her the PaDD. Nodding once, she glanced up seeing McKnight walk in. “Commanders…” She stood up and nodded to them both to follow her to the ready room. “Helm, all stop. You have the bridge. Keep us here and keep the scans tight to the ship.”

Once in the Ready room and the other two present, she nodded to McKnight. “Show him the message,” she said to Baumann and leaned back on the edge of the table, not bothering to sit down. “I think we need to take this seriously, but we need to make sure it’s not a ruse either. Either of you familiar with the ship?” She turned the nearest console around beside her, preparing to look it up if neither of them knew the ship. The last thing she wanted was to blast in and end up flanked and out gunned.

Oddly enough, and Baumann would see it, caution was slamming her brakes this time, rather the threat of children in danger making her plunge head on.

Prescott had seen the console as it beeped it had gotten the translation. Ehen she glanced over, Baumann shouted her the message then cleared the screen. Her brow furrowed at her supervisor moved to show the Captain. Obviously it was dire enough to not blurt across the bridge. The question was, what was it? Was that one of the ships they weren’t supposed to run across?

As the Command Staff moved behind closed doors, she leaned back in her chair and swiveled to look at the others glancing at the odd exchange and departure. “Well, that was interesting. Wonder what happened?” She shrugged as if she had no idea.

Turning back to her console, she tried to see if anything else was coming across the communication bands. Maybe she could get more information for him.

((fixed misread… Prescott saw the message and I missed it))

Baumann showed the message to the XO, and then proceeded to catch him up on the nebula briefing packet he had received. Moving to the desk, he did a search for the name. “Here… Earth colony vessel McAlister. Last known coordinates are… one-hundred-twenty-three lights years from here. The ship is listed as Missing and presumed lost with all hands… including 187 children.”

Baumann, Intel

Fleet immediately brought the ship to a stop, letting the Bonnie float stationary. He glanced around, then focused on running a short diagnostic of his console that would take him less than a minute to finish.

Fleet, Helm

Having followed the Captain and Baumann into the Ready Room, Jonathan looked over the message. “I can’t say that I’m familiar with the McAlister. Though I’m familiar with the designs of most of the commonly used colony ships. So it would depend on how much the colonists modified the ship…” he trailed off looking over the Captain’s shoulder to look at the information on the console.

“How long as the ship been missing? Because it would have taken them,” he stopped to do some quick math in his head, “over 12 years to get that far from their last coordinates, at warp 2.”

Cmdr. McKnight - XO

Ari frowned and shook her head. “It’s not part of the current fleet nor part of anything still considered in commission that I can find. So missing or not, it happened so long ago, she’s not listed anymore.” She glanced up at Baumann. “You think it’s one of theirs? And if it is, I’m open to suggestions. We are supposed to steer wide and clear of them. But if there are children in danger… can we honestly turn our back?” She wasn’t one to hide her emotions well with him. And if he looked, he would see the pain and helplessness in her eyes and the desire to run ‘into the fire’ to save them, so to speak. She steeled the expression quick enough, but either man would have caught it if looking.
