Now to the Counselor. She was a tad out of order, but since she wasn’t immediate bridge crew, so clearance before or after her Chief probably didn’t matter. As she arrived at the Counselor’s office, she tugged down the front of her uniform and smiled when she tapped the chime. Time to double check her head was attached properly.

On the door of the counselor’s office was a note, “I am in Holodeck 6 if you need me, please come by.”

“All righty, then,” she smiled and headed for the holodeck.

At the appointed place she tapped out the arch so she could enter and walked in on the sim, stopping just inside to get her bearings.

Danora saw a beach with a cool breeze and water as far as the eye could see. On the shoreline sat someone in a chair reading what looked like a book. But this was not on a computer screen or anything like that…this was an actual old earth style book. If one got close enough one could see the title of the book as Harry Potter.

Ship’s Counselor

Taking off her boots and stuffing her socks into them, she left them by the arch and headed down the patch of sand. It was warm but didn’t bother her feet. Almost perfect, if it hadn’t been so sunny. Danora was more of a ‘storms on the waves’ kinda beach girl. She suspected she was the only person in the entire universe who wasn’t impressed with Risa’s glamorous beaches and didn’t care for leave on planets of perpetual ‘perfection’. But she could appreciate them and moved towards the reader.

“Good book, I take it?” She said and dropped onto the sand to the man’s right. Her knees bent, she wrapped her arms around them and stared out at the water. “I love what you did with your office.” She laughed and glanced at him, reaching a hand up to cover the brightness on her eyes as she looked at him.

Looking over at the person he had never met before, Banner smiled and replied, “I take it you are new to the ship?”

Banner paused and a minute then continued, “Yes, I have read this book about a million times, but there is nothing like sitting on the beach and doing it. I am sorry if I missed an appointment or something, I thought my schedule was free today.”

“Computer a second beach chair please” he ordered.

A second later the chair appeared and Banner motioned from Danora to move into it. “Have a seat” he requested.

Brushing her seat off as she stood up, Danora took the chair and settled it into the sand before sitting down. “No, you didn’t miss an appointment. I mean, not really. I’m not scheduled to check in with you till tomorrow morning. But since I had nothing else to do, I thought I’d pop down and see if you were free. But please, don’t feel a need to leave your book. I’ll be happy to lock the door on my way out and see you tomorrow morning.” She realized she hadn’t introduced herself. “Sorry, I’m Danora Allance. The new Engineer and AI Specialist.”

She glanced out at the water. “I’ve never read from a book. But I admit, I think I may start.” She laughed slightly as she watched the waves lap at the beach line.

With a smile the young counselor responded, “Don’t be silly; this book will always be there. Welcome to the ship. Is this your first assignment out of the academy?”

She settled into the seat and shook her head. “No, I was on a platform on the edge of the Alpha Quadrant right after graduation. Then I went back to the Academy for AI training before coming here. But this is my first ship. So the travelling with be exciting.” Danora reached down to remove her socks and shove her toes in the sand. A small giggle rising in her throat. “Sorry, haven’t been on a beach since I was a kid. And that was just a quick afternoon lunch stop.” She glanced at the Counselor expecting a look of horror like most folks gave her when she mentioned having not done something that everyone else in the universe had done multiple times.

Unthinking, she tugged the edges of her short sleeves down. The scar tissue showed slightly, peeking out from the edge of the material. The motion almost as if she was trying to keep the mottled skin from slipping too far into view as her self consciousness tickled the edge of her mind.

“I see....a beach is the place I have always felt closest to home way out here. I was assigned directly to this ship from the academy and was given the lead counselor position. As an Ensign that was a surprise to me but it has been fun. Tell me, what are you looking forward to the most on this new assignment, besides going from galaxy to galaxy?”
