Wendell went to the main holodeck to run this particular probe experiment mainly because it involved chemicals that were so hazardous that he only wanted to use simulations of them.

He set the holodeck for a class M arctic planet, with a somewhat flat, yet rocky and snowy tundra terrain.

Then he prepared for the next stage of the experiment.
