As soon as the Memorial returned to Starebase 243 she docked and repair teams started patching her up though she only took minor damage Tralla wanted the ship in perfect shape meanwhile The Tribunal for Ensign Jean-François Chéreau was held and dealt with the Young Ensign getting sent off to a Penal colonyNow it was time for the crew of the memorial to get some newcomers and await their next orders

Understanding that they might not get back to a Starbase for a while, the young Ensign decided he needed a break himself. He wondered off the ship and onto the starbase looking for a nice bar or lounge to sit in and relax.
Banner
Wendell was in one of several lounges. He was seated at a table near the window. And he was still dressed in his uniform, trying to decide what to have for food.
CSO
Wendell didn’t know what time it was. He spent long hours in the lab or on his bridge station. His mindset told him that it was just after breakfast. But he felt like it was time for dinner. He pondered this while trying to decide what to order to eat.
CSO
It was definately just past dinner. So it was that he ordered a nice ribeye steak. Medium rare. With a baked potato swimming in butter. And sauteed mushrooms and onions. With a talk glass of iced tea.
CSO
Sivith came in to eat and sat near Wendell with his large order of biscuits and gravy. He nodded at Wendell. “Morning good sir.”
Lt jg Sivith Ch’shriaqes CE
Zero was in the corner watching everything and eating his food.
Lt. Zero (CTO)
“Morning,” Wendell replied. “You’re our Chief Engineer, right? I’m sorry. I haven’t had a chance to check in on Engineering lately.”
CSO
“Yes. I am and don’t be sorry. I still haven’t checked in on Engineering! I just got here yesterday and finished processing in. I’ll be going there today finally after breakfast. Have you had this before? Humans call it biscuits and gravy and I loooove it.”
Lt jg Sivith Ch’shriaqes CE
“Biscuits and gravy, good stuff,” Wendell agreed.
Into the longe floated Zoz-Eki-Ion s/he wasn’t really under h/erm own power though as a couple of local children each had a tenticle and were dragging the squid like alien around behind them. The kids apparently grew bored of pulling Zoz around and abandoned h/erm just inside the enterance. Zoz for her part blinked a few times raised a tenticle towards each of the kids but dropped them again before they touched the children. “JUvenile humanoids, engaged me in play activity. Abrupt loss of interest indicative of incomplete diciplinary socialization. Notation to be continued after information gathering is completed. “, Zoz said to a padd held in another tenticle. As S/he was doing this she spotted a group of humanoids that looked familiar and floated over to them. “Greetings.”s/he said offering each a tenticle.
Ensign Zoz-Eki-Ion. Security.
Wendell shook a tentacle. “Hello,” he said. “Care to join us?”
CSO
Zoz clasped the hand offered and shook it but then held it longer than was typically comfortable for most humans, “It would be pleasing to be included in your gathering.” Zoz , said. Cheerfully. The use of inflection was still a ongoing exercise so it was more a what s/he hoped sounded cheerful and not exactly a cheerful tone.
Ensign Zoz-Eki-Ion. Security.
Sivith shook the tentacle as well. “Please. Have a seat. Have you tried this thing humans call biscuits and gravy? I think I’m going to love it here! It’s soooooooo good.”
Lt jg Sivith Ch’shriaqes CE
Zoz repeated the handshake and 6again did not seem to know when to let go. “It is preferrable to hover behind the chair if that is permissable. The humanoid anatomy emits gasses that transfer to the seating . My olfactory organ is located in a ring cluster around my feeding apature. Thus close proximity to seating used by humanois seat is somewhat overwhelming.”, s/he said her/m tone indicating that s/he feared s/he might be offencive.
Ensign Zoz-Eki-Ion. Security.
“That’s true. Very true. Would you like me to remove the chair out of your way first?”
Lt jg Sivith Ch’shriaqes CE
Zoz blinked then took hold of the chair with 8 tenticles , floated over it and lifted it. S/he rotated in place moved 3 feet backwards and placed the chair at another table, as s/he did this s/he said, “Regulations, ordinances and custom ard societal norms are that the junior officer acts to convienance the higer ranking officer. It is also customary for females to be slightly more prone to cater to the whims of males within humanoid societies. While such gender labeling does not strictly apply to my species as our anatomy makes us non binary in a manner. To be honest the languages of Humanoid multi gendered species do not contain terminology adequate to use to discribe gender within my species. The closest being hermaphrodite however that term carries a unwelcome association with a negative view that being both genders at the same time is improper. My spieces have formed the consensus that being multi gendered must be terribly inconvienant for both genders.”, and having done and said all of that s/he floated back to the spot where the chair had been.
Ensign Zoz-Eki-Ion. Security.
“Okay. I understand but I care for my troops and would not think that moving a chair for one would be beneath me. As humans like to say, we all put on pants. Except you don’t wear any. But do you see what I mean by we are both equal. We are not the same and not the same rank but we can at least be civil with each other and help each other out.”
Lt jg Sivith Ch’shriaqes CE
Zoz blinked and floated a bit lower so her eyes were level with the others. “It is comendable that you feel so. Lieutenant Ch’shriaqes. I will endever to permit you to act upon your belefs in future sir.”, and she looked over what the others were eating or drinking to get a feel for the mood of the gathering.

Wendell was halfway thru his ribeye steak dinner. “Common courtesy is not something that is below Starfleet officers,” he said. “Especially when we’re off duty. What department are you assigned to?”
CSO
Zoz thought about that then remarked, “Common curtesy is a concept unusual in hierarchies that have a military componant. Particularly those that unlike Starfleet emphasise time in service over a merit based structure. Within Argonite society I have lived long enough th rise into the third teir of the hierarchy of the profession I was assigned. Thus were I to return to kany ship or station of my people I would command a significant number of my people, The Idea that any curtosy would be due to those of lower teir would be seen as strange. It is likely the idea held by the Federation rgat all beings are of equal value th7at motivates your common curtesy. I am endevering to add Federation and Star Fleet customs to my thought matrix so that should I return the assembly can learn and discuss the merits of each. I have much to learn as yet.”, and as s/he said this s/he was making notations on padds held by tenticles on the sides facing away from the group at afurious pace. “I am assigned to Security. It is a good branch of service to interact with people and learn social norms and customs. For instance adopting I as a concept when refering to self is a source of great contemplation and examination on how that concept of self changes thought patterns. Alarming at times as thought of self interest detracts from thoughts of mutual interest. Preservation of self over devotion to species survival. “, and s/he ordered when a server passed a series of mixed fruit juices.
Ensign Zoz-Eki-Ion. Security.
“Fortunately, Starfleet is less military, and more exploratory,” Wendell said. “In fact, I like to think that we’re more of an armed civilian force. It would certainly explain why we have no ground forces. And why we often get assigned to routine civilian missions. Such as diplomatic duties or cargo delivery.”
CSO
“This is true. Other worlds and or species that are not part of us are very militant. Some were militant before they joined us and now are like us.”
Lt jg Sivith Ch’shriaqes CE
Zoz stopped writing on the padds and blinked all four eyes simultaniously. “It is curious that after the Federation policy of being ill prepared and docile in the face of aggression nearly caused the demise of the Federation and absorbtion of the entirety of explored space by the Dominion that you should thing a return to those policies desirable or even posible. While all major powers have been reduced greatly in power or prestige. By the Dominion conflict and subsequent disater in Romulan space the power vacuum this has created will be filled by either the Federation and it’s allies or a new power with greater ambition. History proves that Political structures that decend into decadence do not last long. It is far more advisable to maintain strength consolidate and repair damages and explore and expand at a sustainable rate. It is highly probable that it will be exploration for explorations sake not driven by a need that will bring known space into contact with the new threat.”. And Zoz began writing again at a slower pace.
Ensign Zoz-Eki-Ion. Security.
“It’s far from a perfect system,” Wendell agreed. “By advertising that our weapons are for purely defensive purposes, I think that we invite people to attack us.”
CSO
Wendell polished off his steak dinner. Then he ordered a large chocolate shake. Topped with whipped cream. And a cherry.
CSO
Sivith saw the shake. “What is that?! That looks real good!”
Lt jg Sivith Ch’shriaqes CE
“It’s a classic desert from Earth,” Wendell said. “I’m really surprised that they didn’t teach you about this back at the Academy. Would you like to try a chocolate shake? Actually, you look more like you’d like a banana shake.”
CSO
“I didn’t go out much or hang around people all that often. See I was brought up by my parents that were doctors and avid virus teachers. They talked about a time on Earth around 2020 or something and said it was just a good idea to stay away from people. They called it social distancing. Where you don’t touch, hang out or gather in anyway. So I just got used to being alone. But Yes. I would love to try a banana shake.”
Lt jg Sivith Ch’shriaqes CE
About this time the counselor entered the room and looked for a place to sit down.

Zoz tried not to eat znd drink in public as for reasons that eluded h/erm people seemed uncomfortable with food or drink being passed under the kilt. H/erm best guess was that it had to do with the simularity of the garment to that worm by some humanoids to cover reproductive organs. It was very confusing as the idea of there being two or more distince genders was still a new concept who’s implications had dominated so much of h/erm journal . . So she waved a tenticle at the new arrival and waited for the conversation to resume.
Ensign Zoz-Eki-Ion. Security.
Ensign Banner walked over to Xox-Eki-Ion and asked..”Is this seat taken?”
Banner
Zoz let go of the chair she had used to anchor h/ermself in place and indicated it with a tenticle, she didn’t need a anchor point as there was no significant wind in the lounge.
“It is more a habit to hold onto things when not in motion than a need. My speices is fairly lightweight so can suffer unintended locamotion in the event of significant air currents. This is a likely reason for the comon habit of anchoring.”, s/he stated to the councilor as he approached.Ensign Zoz-Eki-Ion. Security.
“Have a chair, Dr. Banner,” Wendell said. “Would you care for a shake?”
CSO
“Yes. Dr. Banner. These are amazing! But if you don’t like it then please don’t get angry. We wouldn’t like you if you’re angry.”
OOC: Haha..funny, very funny.
IC: Banner took a seat and replied, “It takes a lot to get me mad; I mean I am an Ensign and well we are at the bottom anyway. Sure, I will take a shake and we can chat.”
Banner
Zoz-Eki-Ion blinked. Lifted a padd to a eye not facing the group. S/he had s/he felt missed a referance in that exchange. Of pleasentries. A secondary or double entendre. But the Argozonite refrence library was no help in finding the missing referance.

“Say, you’re a rather interesting race,” Wendell noted to the security officer. “I’m not that familiar with your species?”
CSO
Banner sat their and took a sip from his drink. He knew more about everyone because he must clear them for duty..but the question was not posed to him.

“Wait, wasn’t there some sort of an amorphous blob here just now? What happened?” Wendell asked. He was a little confused.
“Never mind,” he said with a shrug. “Anyway. My point is that there are many, many varieties of shakes. Chocolate and banana are just two of.the examples.”
