Lari smiled warmly as they approached his quarters. “Let’s just get you settled and I’ll give you another shot for the pain,” she said with a reassuring hug. As they finally arrived at the young Ensign’s quarters, Lari helped him onto the sofa and gently propped his leg up on some cushions. She was keen to have a little nosey look around his quarters but her duty came first. As she got him settled she popped open her med kit and gave him another shot of painkiller then put a couple of pillows behind him. “How does that feel Penji?” she asked warmly, hoping he was a bit more comfortable now.

She grabbed a nearby blanket it and carefully put it over him, trying not to disturb his leg. Satisfied that he was comfortable she breathed a sigh of relief as she sat next to him on the sofa. “Well, I don’t know about you but I’m starving,” she said as she kicked her boots off. “What do you fancy for dinner?” she asked, curious to see what his taste in food was like.

“Well, how about Catullan pasta and meatballs?” Fil said as he tried to take off his shoes. “Uh, Lari I think I need a little help here, I can’t take off my shoes. I’m sorry I can’t do the cooking, but if you don’t mind doing the cooking, I’ll appreciate it a lot. Come here Lari sit next to me. If you want, you can look around this place and maybe find something to make us, uh… I mean me comfortable. I am feeling a lot better.” Fil put a arm around Lari’s shoulder.
“I’m just wondering how am I going to put this in my personal log? OOHHH , It hurts when I laugh. And don’t you dare say ‘So don’t laugh’.” Penji said as he was able to relax a little bit.

Lari smiled warmly and dashed across to carefully take Fil’s shoes off, watching not to nudge his leg then set them neatly by the door. “Of course I don’t mind cooking, in fact I love to cook,” she said with a wink. She sat back next to him and gently stroked his hair to try and relax him. She put a pillow behind his head and made sure he was comfortable. “It’s ok Penji, you can relax now,” she spoke softly, “why don’t you just get some rest whilst I make dinner?” she suggested, sensing that he was still a bit nervous around her.

“Thanks. I love you Lari. I’m so relaxed being with you.” Penji said as he tried to take a nap. “Help yourself to anything you need around my quarters in order to prepare the dinner.”

Lari chuckled as she playfully put a finger on his lips. “Doctor says to sleep now…” she said with a grin as she gave him a quick kiss on the forehead.

“To make the pasta and meatballs just ask the replicator for ‘Catullan pasta # 1’ and it should be ready in a few minutes. It’s nice to have you eat dinner with me Lari. Oh, I have a bottle of wine in the small fridge, if you don’t mind.” Fil said as he kissed Lari for all she did.

Lari went across to the kitchen and got out the chilled wine, pouring a glass for both of them. She smiled as she crept over and quietly set down a glass next to the now sleeping Ensign. She returned to the kitchen and ordered the ingredients for the meal. She knew that the replicator could just produce the finished product but Lari thought there was something special about cooking her own meals, somehow they were more authentic and tasted better to her. She popped some jazz on quietly in the background and smiled as she began chopping ingredients. She looked across at Fil and shook her head, it had certainly been one of the strangest days she’d had in a long time. It wasn’t like her to get emotionally involved this early on but there was something almost sweet about his innocence and nervousness.

As the dish started to come together, Lari’s stomach started to rumble so she had a quick taste to make sure it was palatable. Happy that it was good, she added a quick pinch of pepper and grabbed a couple of bowls to start serving up. Fil had been sound asleep on the sofa for an hour so Lari popped the bowls on the side and knelt down by the sofa and gently stroked his hair to wake him up. “I hope you’re hungry?” she whispered softly.

“Thanks Lari, yes I’m starving.” Fil tasted it. “MMMM this tastes different. Say…you didn’t cook this yourself? This tastes fantastic.” He was amazed on how his favorite dish was better than he ever tasted. Penji took his glass of wine and offered a toast and said: “To the both of us. May we be friends forever.” After taking a sip, Penji asked Lari, “Why did you become a doctor, what’s your specialty besides ‘TLC’ for me.” Fil said as he chuckled a little. Penji ate his dinner like it was the best food he ever had. Fil kissed Lari and said, “Thank you for everything you done. I just can’t be without you. I love you.” They both enjoyed their dinner.

Lari giggled, pleased that he enjoyed her culinary efforts. “Thanks Penji, I did cook it myself, I find that the replicator just doesn’t give it the same flair that I do! It’s a great recipe though,” she added and smiled as she picked up her own glass and repeated, “friends forever,” as they clinked glasses. Lari tucked in to her food too and smiled as she tasted the delicious pasta.

She thought about Fil’s question for a moment and then nodded. “I was always interested in biology but then when my father got seriously ill, he received such good care that I knew I wanted to be a doctor to help people like him. My specialty is in neurology and neurosurgery but I love emergency medicine as well. What about you Penji, what’s your specialty?” she asked as she took another mouthful.

“I was always interested in alien culture.” Penji said, thinking about that question. “I became a Xeno-biologist to further my studies in it. I made friends with everyone I met. I made friends easily with all aliens I met. I like to study everything about how different, but the same on how we are similar. I didn’t want to be a doctor…look how I reacted when I broke my leg…because I was not into the medical aspect of it.”
“I got to admit this is the best dinner I have ever tasted. You should cook for me more often.” Penji said as he laughed at what he said. “Well, Dr. Grey did a good job on fixing my leg. It doesn’t hurt as much. But then again, you’re here to make sure of that. I’m enjoying my time with you Lari.” Penji hugged and kissed Lari as the best thing that happened to him.

Lari smiled and gave him a kiss on the forehead as she collected their plates up and popped them back in the kitchen. “Thanks Penji, I love cooking, I find it really relaxing,” she said as she quickly cleared the kitchen and emerged again with two small glass dishes of chocolate mousse. She put them both next to her as she took a seat next to Penji on the sofa. She scooped up a little bit of mousse and giggled as she put it on the end of his nose with a mischievous grin.

As Fil ‘tried’ to lick it off, he finally scraped it off with his finger and tasted it. “Hey, this mousse tastes great. You’re a great cook, Lari. You should teach me how to cook sometime. Maybe I’ll come over to your quarters for dinner more often.” Fil said. Penji felt comfortable being with Lari. “I like being with you Lari. You make me laugh, and
relaxed, and fun to be with.” Fil kissed Lari again, lasting many seconds. “I love you Lari.”

Lari smirked as she ran her fingers through Fil’s hair. “Why thank you kind sir,” she smiled as she gently helped him sit up then settled herself on the sofa and pulled a cushion onto her lap. She tapped it for Penji to rest his head on her lap. She fed him a couple more spoonfuls of mousse and kissed him again on the forehead. “How about a movie?” She mused as she played with his hair. She wasn’t normally so forward but she felt strangely close to him, perhaps because of the accident. “What’s your favourite film?” She asked curiously.

“My fair lady, I love to see a movie with you.” Fil said as he rested his head on Lari’s lap. “I like to see a western, I heard it was a great genre.” Fil felt relaxed. “I’ll make some popcorn for us. I heard movies was a big thing in the 21st century. Let’s see what kind of movies we have in the ship’s memory banks. Pick the film and we’ll watch it together.” Fil said as he looked into Lari’s eyes.

Lari chuckled and shook her head. “How are you going to make popcorn on one leg?” she asked with a giggle. “I’ll handle the popcorn in a minute but lets see what westerns they have,” she said as she brought up the movie selection available and started to flick through. Spotting a familiar title she smiled, “my father used to love this one…” she said as she brought up ‘The Good, The Bad & The Ugly and raised an eyebrow to see if it would meet with Fil’s tastes. “Look good to you?” she asked.

“First of all, I said I’ll make the popcorn, 2nd, I didn’t say it would be easy.” Fil said acting insulted. “Besides, I love that movie. I just don’t know who is good, who is the bad, and who is ugly. (HA HA). So get everything set up, and sit here next to me.” After everything was ready, Lari sat next to Fil and he put his arm around her.

Lari smiled and held her hands up in surrender as Fil hobbled over to make the popcorn. She settled on the sofa and fluffed the cushions behind her. Popping her feet up on the table she cast a quick eye over to Fil as she made sure he was ok. As he gingerly hobbled back and sat on the sofa, Lari instinctively rearranged the cushions so he could put his leg up again. “Now, I usually fall asleep during movies, so make sure you nudge me if I start snoring!” she chuckled as they snuggled up to watch the movie.

“Don’t worry Lari, I will make sure you watch the movie. You’ve done so much for me, is there anything I can do for you?” Fil question Lari about being so helpful. Fil was comfortably sitting on the sofa with his leg propped up, his arm around Lari. He would enjoy watching the movie with her. “At least my leg feels better, then again, you’re here to make sure of that. You know, after the movie you could sleep in my bed room, I’ll sleep here on the couch. I feel comfy here.” Fil said as the movie was about to start. This time, Fil kissed Lari on the lips while holding her tight in his arms.

” How long do you think it will be before I can use my leg?” Fil asked Lari. “I mean, I know it feels better but I can’t sit on the sofa forever. I think this movie is going to be great” Fil and Lari snuggled together as the movie started. Fil felt like Lari was his girlfriend on a date.

Lari smiled as she tucked into a handful of popcorn. “Don’t worry Penji, you’ll be up and around in a couple of days, but only if you follow doctors orders and take it easy!” she said with a mock stern tone. “The bone has healed nicely but your muscles and ligaments are going to be sore for a little while so be kind to them. I’ll make sure we get you back to work as soon as possible,” she added with a gentle squeeze on his shoulder.

“Yes sir doctor!” Penji said as he did a ‘mock’ salute. “I won’t move a muscle, I’ll stay on this couch until I’m healed. Uh…I don’t have to be back to work that soon, tho. Ha Ha” Fil said as he hugged Lari and gave her a big kiss. “You’re such an angel, staying with me. I love you. I’m used to sleeping on the couch, I’m comfortable, so it’s no trouble for me to stay here. Make yourself at home. You are my guest here. I promise I’ll be a good patient for you”
