Wendell looked at his chronometer. It was about 20:00 hours. He’d been at it in the main science labs for the last twelve hours. And he was famished. So it was that he headed to the ship’s lounge for dinner. He looked for a table that had a view of the stars.

Once he found his table, he waited on the, err, waiter.
“One bacon mushroom double cheeseburger, please,” he ordered. “No condiments. With steak fries and for them, lots of ketchup. Medium rare.”
“And a tall glass of iced root beer.”
CSO
“Ye’ll go to an early grave eating like that Commander” The soft accented voice of the ships Chief Doctor came from behind the Scientist. The Thin Blond man was eating his own dinner, a Ceaser salad, and a clear drink. “Although I do admit it does sound quite nice” He added with a smile “Busy day?”
Jack Grey
“But at least he’d die happy, Doctor.” came a voice from near the entrance. The heavy-framed figure and perpetually smiling blue face of the Bolian Chief Engineer nodded in the direction of the two officers. “Sorry, couldn’t help but overhear.” he said with a widening of the smile.
Tor, CE
Wendell had just gotten his meal and he hadn’t yet started to eat. “Hey, Doctor,” he said. He waved the Bolian over as well. “It looks like I wasn’t the only one ready for late dinner. Why don’t you guys join in?”
CSO
“Why thank you,” Jack said with a pleasant smile “A meal is best eaten in company my nan always said.” The physician said standing up with his food and moving over.
Fil walked into the lounge for something to eat. As he passed his CO , Fil said “Hello sir.” Then he went to his table.
Ens. Fil
Science“Ensign Fil, if you want, you can join in, and sit at this table,” Wendell offered. “Altho’, you don’t have to. I mean, it’s not an order.”
“But dinner is starting to look a bit like a staff briefing.”
CSO
“Yes sir, I would like to sit with you, if you don’t mind. Thank you for inviting me.” Fil said as he took a seat at the table.
Ens. Fil
Science“OH nothing wrong with some officers sitting together eating, helps boost morale. Also gives me insight into what the crew is eating” He pointed to the Scientists meal “Remind me to take a look at your cholesterol levels next time you run by my way” Although he spoke in a lighthearted tone he didn’t seem to be joking at all.
Dr. Grey - CMO
“Don’t worry doctor, I watch my cholesterol. Anyway, I do excercise a lot.” Fil said, as he sat down. “Dr., if you want, I can see you for a thorough medical exam.”
Ens.Fil
ScienceThe Bolian Engineer, now seated at the table, shook his head and said “I do not envy humans and their delicate digestive systems.” and then he chuckled. Looking at the CMO, he said “But if the CSO or the Ensign have need of a dietary shift, let me know. I make a mean kale and watercress soup.” with a big grin on his face.
Tor, CE
“It’s funny how replicators work,” Wendell said between bites of his burger. “I can eat a gallon of ice cream for three times a day for a solid month. My dietary and nutritional requirements will be the same and figured into the meal. The replicator does this to any meal ordered.”
CSO
“Well yes and no, although replicators are set to fulfill dietary requirements eating too much of a single thing lacks diversity, it’s a fundamental issue with the idea of replicators. I’ve always been a strong supporter of ships having their own hydroponics bays for dietary use to be standard” The Doctor explained.
“Dr., What’s it like being a doctor on a ship like this?” Fil wondered. “How are you able to diagnose any health problems of alien species?”
Ens. Fil
Science“Well beyond my general medical degree and all the technological marvels I have at my disposal I am an expert on xenobiology. Beyond that, it’s simply a matter of understanding that most humanoids have fairly simple inner workings. Most likely due to some sort of ancient common ancestry between most humanoids, similiar to the Vulcans and Romulans but on a larger more ancient scale.”
Dr. Grey - CMO
“I became a scientist because I was interested in alien beings and wanted to become a Xeno-biologist.” Fil said.
Ens. Fil
Science“An admirable goal indeed” Jack added between bites “Has it been as rewarding of a profession as you imagined” He asked with polite curiosity.
Dr. Grey - CMO
“Oh yes, I have a ship full of aliens I can talk with, I meet aliens from all over the galaxy.” Fil said as he talked to Dr. Grey, a superior officer, like it was nothing special. “So yes, I think it has been rewarding for me.”
Ens. Fil
Science“It’s a good idea for the science department xenobiologists to work with the medical department,” Wendell said as he worked on his glorious hamburger.
CSO
“Who knows, maybe I could be a ‘Dr. of xeno-biology’ in the medical department.” Fil laughed as he drank the strange liquid that was in front of him.
