Lari blushed again at his comment but decided not to mention it as she didn’t want to embarrass him. Instead she picked up a bone regenerator and held it poised over his leg. “Well, you’re not fixed just yet but this will take care of it,” she said warmly as she activated the tool. “This might tingle a bit, do you need any more pain killers?” she asked as the instrument began to knit Fil’s femur back together.

Fil pleaded with Lari, “Please stay with me Lari, don’t leave me. I’m scared. Nothing like this ever happened to me.”

As Lari worked on his leg, she put a reassuring hand on his shoulder. “It’s ok Penji, I’m not going anywhere and you’ll be all sorted in a few minutes,” she smiled sympathetically and gave his shoulder a quick gentle squeeze as she continued her work.

“Thanks Lari, your touch feels comfortable, not to mention my leg.” Fil said as he tried to relax. “How long do you think before I can walk again? How bad was it broke?”

Jack arrived from his office after being alerted to the happenings by his terminal and the general noise of the transporter. Although initially, he didn’t get up because of the fairly unimportant paperwork he was working on was bugging him. After finally finishing the menial work he got up, put on his white long coat and joined the fray. After being waved over by Naktal he joined the pair and worked his medical tricorder over the man’s leg “So how did this happen” He asked with his general tone of mild disinterest.

Dr. Grey - CMO

“Lari and I were doing some excercizes and I landed incorrectly on my leg. If it wasn’t for Lari being there, I don’t know what I’d do. She saved me.” Fil said as he looked at Lari who was blushing a little. “Dr. Grey, she was a great doctor, she calmed me down and reassured me that I would be in good hands with the both of you helping me.”

“How delightful” Jack continued in his dryness as he looked over the scan “Nothing serious, Doctor Naktal please bring me an Osteogenic Simulator.” He said as he turned around and started adding information to the biobeds computer.

Dr. Grey - CMO

Feeling her cheeks flush Lari nodded and smiled. “Of course Doctor,” she replied with a wink to Penji as she went grab the instrument.

Just then, the combadge chirped.
=^= This is Vaughn calling for Ensign… Ensign Necktie. Did you say that you have one of my scientists in the Sickbay? =^=

Ensign Necktie? Lari thought as she shook her head and replied. =^= Yes sir, this is Ensign Naktal, I’m afraid Ensign Fil had an accident and has broken his leg. Dr Grey is treating him now but he will need to take it easy for a few days. =^= she replied as she picked up the Osteogenic Stimulator and returned to the bed, handing it over to Dr Grey. She gently touched Penji’s arm and mouthed ‘are you ok?’ To him. Dr Grey’s bedside manner left a little to be desired and she knew Penji was frightened.

Fil whispered to Lari, “Necktie? Ha Ha, ‘OOOHHH’ don’t make me laugh Lari. (Don’t worry I’ll keep it a secret.) I’m still hurting a little but feeling better. Lari, are you sure you got the correct leg ? ‘(Ha Ha)’. Thanks again for everything you done for me. Will I be able to walk again?” Fil still felt frightened.

Lari chuckled and smiled fondly at the young Ensign. “Don’t be scared Penji, Dr Grey is nearly done fixing your leg and you’ll able to walk out of here soon, you’ll have to take it easy for a few days though, no working out!” she reassured him with a mock scolding tone which was softened by her smile. She loaded a hypospray with a small dose of painkiller and popped it to his neck, releasing the medication into his system.

“Don’t worry Dr. Lari, I’ll just stay in my quarters and do a lot of reading.” Fil said. As Lari leaned closer to Fil, he gave Lari a small kiss on her cheek. “I owe you for everything you did for me, ‘Dr. Necktie’.” Fil said as he fell asleep from the pain killer he just received.

Doctor Jack Grey audibly clenched his teeth, it was clear that the endless displays of affection were bothering him although for what reason was uncertain.

Fil woke up a few hours later, his leg feeling better. As he opened his eyes, he saw Lari looking at him with a big smile. “Well ‘Dr. Necktie’, How am I doing?” Fil said. “My angel always looking over me.”

Jack didn’t give Naktal a chance to respond as he stood over the scientist with a scanner in hand “You will survive, come back tomorrow for a checkup and try to avoid strenuous activities for at least a fortnight.” It seemed the time Fil was asleep didn’t mellow his brusqueness”Doctor Naktal will be your primary carer for the duration of your recovery” He turned to his junior doctor “Try not to break him next time” He said as drily as ever before moving back towards his office.

Lari nodded silently, a little embarassed of the affection she was showing Fil and worried that it might be inappropriate.

“Don’t worry doctor, I’ll make sure Lari is in safe hands with me.” Fil said as he looked fondly at her. “Lari, Is Dr. Grey always this ‘friendly’?” Fil whispered to her
sarcastically.

Fil gave a kiss to Lari as she got closer to her patient. “I love you Lari…” “Uh, I have no idea why I said that.” Fil said. He sounded like he was confused by saying that.

Lari beamed at the young Ensign and brushed a lock of hair off his forehead. She could feel her cheeks turning bright red as she put a reassuring hand on his arm. “Don’t worry about it Fil, you’ve had a pretty rough day!” She replied as she checked his scans. “You’re all fixed up now, you just need to rest…perhaps I could take you back to your quarters?” She asked hopefully.

“Yes, …yes I would like that very much. Never leave me, Lari. I need you with me.” Fil said sounding happy that she would be alone with him.

Lari smiled as she gently helped Fil off the bed and supported him in case his leg was still aching. “Let’s take it slowly ok?” she said softly as they carefully made their way out of sickbay. “Lean on me if you get tired,” she added warmly then thought for a moment. “Oh, and if you call me Necktie again…there will be trouble!” she giggled, trying to lighten the mood a bit.

“Who me? Would I say something like that? Fil said innocently. “Besides I have no idea who Necktie is. And what kind of trouble do you mean, ‘Necktie’? Are you gonna break my other leg?” Fil smiled as he leaned on Lari. “OWWW” Fil said. He put weight on his leg, and it still hurt a little. They both made it out of sickbay, heading towards the crews quarters. Fil kissed Lari again, on the cheek.

Lari held him up as he winced with pain, “hey, take it easy Fil, I said you have to be careful with that leg!” she scolded him as she held him up. “Let’s just get you back to your quarters before you fall over?” she offered as they slowly made their way towards his room.

“You’re the boss, ‘doctor’. You didn’t say it would hurt this much.” Fil felt helpless. As they hobbled toward his quarters, Fil put most of his weight on Lari as he couldn’t put his weight on his injured leg. “Lari, remind me never to do this again. My leg hurts so much. I’m sorry about all this happening.” Penji kissed Lari again. “You are my best friend Lari. I don’t know what I’ll do without you.”

Lari smiled warmly as they approached his quarters. “Let’s just get you settled and I’ll give you another shot for the pain,” she said with a reassuring hug. As they finally arrived at the young Ensign’s quarters, Lari helped him onto the sofa and gently propped his leg up on some cushions. She was keen to have a little nosey look around his quarters but her duty came first. As she got him settled she popped open her med kit and gave him another shot of painkiller then put a couple of pillows behind him. “How does that feel Penji?” she asked warmly, hoping he was a bit more comfortable now.

She grabbed a nearby blanket it and carefully put it over him, trying not to disturb his leg. Satisfied that he was comfortable she breathed a sigh of relief as she sat next to him on the sofa. “Well, I don’t know about you but I’m starving,” she said as she kicked her boots off. “What do you fancy for dinner?” she asked, curious to see what his taste in food was like.
