Ens. Penji Fil sat down at the desk of the chief science and talked about his duties and what to expect .

Just to set up a description of the location, the Chief Science Officer had set up in such a way, so that for one to enter his office, one first had to go thru the main science lab. The lab had a team of a few scientists who were busy working on some project.

The wall adjacent to the lab was constructed of a transparent material. There was a sliding door. The office itself was decorated in a normal fashion. A desk had two cushy chairs for visitors. And one for where the CSO was sitting.

The desk had an LCARS terminal on it, with several data Padds lying around. There was also a replicator in the far bulkhead. The CSO was currently enjoying a cup of coffee as he worked.

As the new ensign entered his office, the CSO looked up from his computer terminal. “Hello,” he said. “I’m the Chief Science Officer. Lt. Cmdr. Wendell Vaughn.”

Ooc (out of characcter): hmm I think that you can wait for s response. Then reply. Then repeat. The CSO would like to chat before assigning your character any projects.

Ens. Fil said to his chief science officer, “What project do you want me to work on, sir?”

“Why don’t you take a seat?” Wendell offered. “I’d like to welcome you aboard the Memorial. Are you finding your way around this ship? Incidentally, the bridge is in the middle.”

CSO
Ens. Fil took a seat in front of the chief science officer’s desk. “Thank you sir,” Fil said to Wendell. ” I get lost a little, but I’m honored to be posted on this ship. Some of the projects are harder than I imagined, but I’m doing the best I can. I did meet some other science officers. So, what do you need me to do?”

“I’m ready to start working on any project you want me to do, sir.” Fil said as he got more comfortable in the seat.

“Well, you’ll be on the bridge, with me, when the need arises,” Wendell replied. “We have extra science stations.”

He thought for a moment. “What are your specialties? I’m a galactic phenomena researcher. I don’t want to assign you to anything outside of the range of your field of expertise.”

CSO

Ooc: Remember, you can still post on the bridge, where the main action currently is. This little side sim in the lab happens a few days prior to what’s going on with the ship right now.

“I’m a Zeno-biologist. I want to know everything about aliens. I want to study every alien we meet.”

“Xenobiology is an interesting field,” Wendell said. “So you’ll probably be working quite a bit with the medical department. Have you checked in with them yet?”

CSO
“No not yet. I was gonna do that later, but right now I wanted to know about my duties as a scientist, then I’ll follow up with learning about being a Xeno-biologist.”

“Sir, I’ve made an appointment with the CMO about me doing studies concerning my being a Xeno-biologist. but in the meantime, what can I do for you.” Fil said.

“I’m thinking that we have 14 science labs on this ship,” Wendell said. “But what we don’t have, is a dedicated xenobiology lab. Get with someone from medical that’s into the field to find a suitable work space. I’ve only got three of the six general science labs in use. So we can use one of the other three if we need to.”

CSO
“I’ll get on it right away, sir. ” Fil said. “If there is there anything else I can do, I’ll be at the medical section?”
Ens. Fil then left to go directly to the medical section to speak to a medical officer and help him to create a Xenobiology lab from Science Lab number 4.

After a long time passed, Penji Fil reported to the CSO that the Xeno-biology lab was ready for inspection.

Everything was up to par with the new Xeno-biology lab, but the CSO still had to inspect it and approve it. Penji had no doubt that his lab would be a efficiently run lab.

Ens. Fil was glad that the lab was up and running. Now all he had to do was work with others to find someone to help run it. “I’ll speak to the CSO to get the personnel to help me.” Fil said.

Ooc: I think that you need to wait for other people to reply to. That way, we can get into the story. You can role play getting a lab set up with other people.

It would take the work of science, medical, and engineering to get the work done. And it would need to be approved thru the department heads and the xo and co. Someone else might actually not want a dedicated alien biology lab for some reason.

OCC: As an ensign I don’t have the authority to ask others to help with the lab. I don’t know what to do. If I use my own decision I’m wrong, but if I keep it open to let others suggest things, I’m still wrong. Please let me know what am I supposed to do.

Occ:
You can always ask others for help with things. This excercise is basically to role play. This is also a side aim. It takes place away from the main sim, say, a few days earlier.

The difference between a side aim and a main sim is that the gm isn’t required to do things in the side sim. People get to interact with each other. And they can control the predictable results of their own actions within reason.

For example. I can go to the lounge and order food. Not whip out my phaser and start blasting my shipmates because I had a bad day.

So you can actually role play getting a dedicated biolab set up within reason given that you’re an ensign. If you start a new thread in the sickbay, you should find people who may want to help.

There is also the possibility that we won’t get a new lab, but might have to convert an old, unused lab. Or, we might not get any biolab at all! We aren’t on a science ship.

Ens. Fil walked to the sick bay and asked for someone to help him with plans to create a lab. He talked to the other doctors and scientists about who he would need to help him.
“Hey who can help me with a new lab?” Fil asked.

A few doctors and science officers agreed to help. “OK, but first I need permission from the CSO before we can proceed.” Fil said. “I’ll get back to you.”
