“Alright set up the IV therapy for all patients, Nurse check blood types and set up for continuous treatment. Doctor Naktal, treat for the concussion then hand of the patient to the nurses if nothing else comes up” He said as he continued his treatment of the burn victim.

Naktal’s scans would show that the patient was indeed suffering from internal bleeding in the abdomen, where a broken rib had punctured an artery.

Lari’s heart quickened as she looked at the results of the scan. She took a moment to formulate a plan of action. She was still nervous but she knew her patient needed her. She turned to the nurse with a determined resolve. “Nurse, please prep the patient for surgery…” she requested as she went back over to Dr Grey.

“Dr Grey?” She asked. “My patient’s scan shows internal bleeding from a punctured artery. The nurse is prepping for surgery now, are you happy for me to proceed or would you prefer to do the surgery?” She asked cautiously.

Jack looked back at the younger doctor and for a split second, he considered his options. He was still in the middle of treating the burn victim, that for the moment was the primary patient. No there wasn’t time for someone to take his place and for him to scrub up “No, you do the surgery, I have my hands full. Take your time and follow procedure, you’ll be fine” He said calmly turning back to his patient “Commander Jones can give you any assistance you may require.” He called back.

Lari gulped and nodded. “Yes doctor,” she replied, trying to keep the fear out of her voice. She gave herself a split second then took a slow controlled breath and picked up a laser scalpel.

“Keep a close eye on his obs please nurse and let me know if you notice any change,” Lari spoke decisively to the nurse assisting her as she made he first incision in the patient’s chest near the broken rib. Her heart skipped a beat as she looked at the open wound, it was certainly much more of a rush than in a simulation. She quickly located the damaged artery and used an autosuture to repair the damage then picked up an osteogenic stimulator to fix the broken rib. “Report please nurse?” She asked.

The nurse reported that the artery had been successfully patched together and the rib repaired. There was still some more minor damage caused by the loose rib around that area, but none of it was life threatening. Meanwhile, the burn patient started to cough violently, as puke started to force its way up her throat.
