She started with a scan of his head to check there was no subdural haematoma or other underlying brain injury. Her hands were starting to shake a little but she forced her fear to one side and focused on her patient. She had done this 100 times in a simulator but she had not had very many real patients in front of her whose lives were in her hands. She centered her thoughts and relied on her training.

While the Vulcan’s treatment was showing signs of stabilization, Lari’s scans showed that there were signs of a minor concussion, but a low red blood cell count entering the brain.

Lari peered at the scan and with the exception of a couple of vitamin deficiencies, a low red blood count usually meant large volumes of blood were being lost. She quickly began scanning the Betazoid for signs of internal bleeding and also ran a scan to check there was no underlying vitamin deficiencies in the off chance that it was unrelated.

Jack was satisfied with the stabilization of his patient. He continued his work diligently but took a moment to look back. Two young Doctors, both recent transfers. One straight from the Academy and another on his third ship assignment. They seemed qualified enough “Alright, my patient has stabilized. Doctors Lox and Naktal, report” His voice was not as rough as before. It seemed the previous tension had somewhat faded.

Lari continued to work but reported her findings to Dr Grey. “Yes doctor, this patient has a minor concussion but also has a low red blood count, I am checking for internal injuries and vitamin deficiencies…” as she spoke she start to worry she had taken the wrong course but bit her lip nervously, put her doubt to one side and continued.

“Alright set up the IV therapy for all patients, Nurse check blood types and set up for continuous treatment. Doctor Naktal, treat for the concussion then hand of the patient to the nurses if nothing else comes up” He said as he continued his treatment of the burn victim.
