In sickbay, there was a flash of light as a few figures were beamed onto the beds. It did not look good. One Vulcan female was heavily burned, and it seemed as though she had lost an arm, the stump cauterized by whatever had burned the rest of her. An Andorian male seemed to be in better condition, but he was barely responsive, muttering to himself with a blank look in his eyes. A younger human male looked untouched but was unconscious, and a betazoid male also shared his state.

Your Bestest Friend (GM)

Jack ran into the main bay holding his scanner at the ready “Three non-criticals, one severely burned Vulcan” The nurse informed him. He immediately ran to the burned Vulcan, directing his subordinates to take care of the less critical patients. He quickly grabbed the scanner wand and waved it across the burned Vulcan. He had no idea what was going on on the bridge but he wasn’t very curious about that. The sick and injured came first.

Lox’s uniform wasn’t exactly perfect, having been thrown on in a hurry. But he straightened it out as he jogged through the door of Sickbay, immediately being handed a PaDD and a nurse falling in step, reporting on the patients that had been beamed in.

His eyes went over to his boss. “I’ll take the Andorian,” he said, not standing on ceremony. Ins Sickbay, patients and position came way above rank.

The Betazoid took a scanner and began to see what he could glean from the results. Taniel, however, was never known for his ability to wait around very long. “Can you hear me?” He said, into the Andorian’s ear. He glanced to the nurse. “Let’s start small. 10ccs of cordafin. Let’s see if a little stimulant might make our friend here a bit more wakeful.” He took the offered hypospray and pressed it against the blue skin on the Andorian’s neck. Tan’s eyes flicked from his tricorder to the man’s face, waiting to see if the stimulant would have any effect.

The Andorian’s eyes started to flicker open and shut for a moment before he let out a large scream. The results showed that his nerves were highly stimulated, and the injection just made things unbearable for him.

Just then Jade walked in she looked at the survivors and went to grab a medical tri-corder before stopping You’re not a medical officer anymore you’re the XO she thought chastising herself. Her natural instinct as that of a doctor and not of an XO “Report” she said as she walked towards Grey

Cmdr Jones (XO)

Jack didn’t look up, he realised who it was by her tone, demeanour and the sound of her gait. He continued his scanning “Three non-criticals, unresponsive, one critical burn victim, Vulcan female, loss of single arm” He spoke quickly and curtly.

Dr. Grey - CMO

The results can back on the Vulcan. Besides her charred body, her brain activity was stable, and no internal damage was detected beyond heavy bruising. Pus had started to leak from some wounds already, and the change in environment seemed to have stimulated her brain as the scans showed that while not awake yet, she would be soon if nothing was done to prevent it.

Your Bestest Friend (GM)

“Cac” He swore under his breath “Nurse start cleaning the wound, NEStevens, Kayolane, enough to knock a Vulcan out, 100cc’s” He commanded as he lowered his Scanner and was handed the hypo. He pressed it against her neck and injected her with the sedative. “Hook her up with a fluid infusion unit for the moment, get her internals hydrated. He opened the burn unit closet and took out a case “We don’t happen to have any medical history do we” He generally Scottish accent seemed to have faded for the moment “We’ll start a Dermaline treatment on her second-degree burns, use metorapan for pain relieve and start dressing her wound. Let’s finish cleaning her wounds to avoid an infection.” He told his team.

Jade stepped out the way. “Don’t forget the Andorian, the same dose should do for him as well. No more stimulants” she barked. Jades years of experience had kicked in and her mind was acting on instinct. “Nurse once he’s sedated scan him softly. Find out what is causing the over stimulation. Andorian biology is tricky.” she added as she went over to the Andorian. She tried to calm him down talking softly in Andorian. “Ssh you’re safe now, relax, calm down. You’re OK.” she whispered.

She then looked at Grey “Apologies for stepping in, i hope I’m not overstepping my bounds. Maybe we should dim the lights. If their all over sensitive dimming the lights might help a bit.” she added she was truly sorry. She would have to get used to being an XO and not a doctor, but it was so hard when that was what you had dedicated your life to.

Cmdr Jones (XO)

Once more Jack didn’t even look back but the slight change in posture and tensing of his shoulders was clear. If he hadn’t been in the middle of treating his patient he would have turned to face her “Commander that man is under the care of Doctor Lox who in turn is under my command” He said coarsely “You want to feel useful either scrub up and help the non-criticals” He finally turned around and his face was formed into a scowl “Let me and mine do our jobs.” He turned back around. Although his tone was rough and his expression rough he seemed more worried than angry.

Dr. Grey - CMO

Jade nodded “Of course” she said as she stepped away and headed for the office “I’ll look into those medical records. Oh and Lieutenant. I admit i made a mistake but don;t forget i out rank you. That scowl was not necessary” she said as she accessed the computer looking for the medical records of the patients.

If Jack reacted to her remark it wasn’t visible. There at least was no retort.

Ensign Naktal stride confidently into sickbay, ready for what she assumed was going to be a standard meet and greet with her new CMO. As she stepped into the carnage in sickbay she momentarily froze like a rabbit in the headlights at the scene before her. Taking a brief second to compose herself she strode over to Dr Grey and cleared her throat.

“Ensign Naktal reporting for duty sir, where do you need me?” She asked, her voice wavering a little.

  • Ensign Naktal (Doctor)

Jade looked up for a moment what a time to report for duty she thought to herself.

Cmdr Jones (XO)

Sensing somewhat of a tense atmosphere and noticing the icy glare from the XO, Lari gulped and took a step back, not wanting to intrude. She looked around to see if there were any unattended patients that might need her help. She wasn’t really sure if she should get involved but it looked somewhat chaotic and she knew she could be useful in some way.

  • Ensign Naktal (Doctor)

“Aye, lass. Assess the two non-responsive, Human and Betazoid males.” His command seemingly curt “If they’re as non-critical as they look then assist me with the burn victim.”

Dr. Grey - CMO

Lari nodded and straightened her uniform. “Aye sir,” she replied and made her way across to the two patients. As she walked, her heart was pounding but she took a deep breath to calm herself. ‘Bold and decisive…’ she reminded herself as she neared the first patient and picked up a medical tricorder. She beckoned a nurse over as she began to scan. “Nurse, have these patients had obs yet?” she asked as she began to scan the Betazoid for any internal injuries or obvious signs for his lack of consciousness.

She started with a scan of his head to check there was no subdural haematoma or other underlying brain injury. Her hands were starting to shake a little but she forced her fear to one side and focused on her patient. She had done this 100 times in a simulator but she had not had very many real patients in front of her whose lives were in her hands. She centered her thoughts and relied on her training.

  • Ensign Naktal (doctor)

While the Vulcan’s treatment was showing signs of stabilization, Lari’s scans showed that there were signs of a minor concussion, but a low red blood cell count entering the brain.

Your Bestest Friend (GM)

Jack was satisfied with the stabilization of his patient. He continued his work diligently but took a moment to look back. Two young Doctors, both recent transfers. One straight from the Academy and another on his third ship assignment. They seemed qualified enough “Alright, my patient has stabilized. Doctors Lox and Naktal, report” His voice was not as rough as before. It seemed the previous tension had somewhat faded.
