USS Memorial

Pre-Sim: Arrival to the Memorial

It was difficult to pay any attention to the people around you, when your mind was preoccupied by the visual euphoria granted by space. Majesties forged by the hellish temperatures of the universe’s scalding cauldron dare snag the attention of any way-going vagabond and thereby reflecting the colourful plumes of gas and visible light off of the subtle glaze of the encaptured’s eye.

It was a sight often trivialized by the century, a growing deppreciation for the Galaxy’s beauty replacing the wanderlust once filling the minds of every creature who ever thought of space. To them, it had become normal and therefore had begun to lose the enigma that once drew men to the stars, searching for the answers they couldn’t receive on their homeworlds.

It fascinated her, not the depreciation of the universe around them, but the way the mind led itself to such a state. Zenobia was not the kind of woman to romanticise the stars, nor did she find their beauty any less captivating than the next. Although, she did appreciate them, if not only for the reason she had been granted the right to see them, when many sharing her blood could only imagine what wonders they might hold. In a way, she was lucky. One difference in her genetic structure, perhaps a different allele chosen, and she may have been just as blind as any other Aenar. In her mind, that was not to be taken lightly.

Although, her attention to the stars and the philosophy behind them was drawn to a close, stolen by the pilot of the Shuttlecraft. She could not hear what he was saying, albeit his words were as clear as day. “We’re coming upon the Memorial, Lieutenant.” He informed, his voice distinctly human. “You might want to gather your things.”

“Of course. Thank you, pilot.” Zenobia tore her gaze from the adjacent window, nodding to the middle-aged pilot. A small smile came to dress her minty features, offering a sense of warmth otherwise dispresent about her icy appearance. She was glad to see the discomfort had faded from his gaze, it having previously undermined his words. Although she could not blame him, with her lack of a true voice beyond what the transmitter spoke, it still comforted her to know he wasn’t as freaked out by it any longer.

Minutes passed as the small shuttle pulled into the shuttlebay, planting itself down in a free area. Rising to her feet, once given the okay, she waved to the pilot, thanking him for the trip. Her mind, while distracted by thoughts of what needed to be done, maintained an almost frivolous excitement. Adjusting the hem of her uniform, the young lieutenant stepped from the craft, heading for the bay doors.

Having previously been assigned to a Starbase, Zenobia was.. anxious, to say the least, to return to work on a ship. She wasn’t sure what it was, but life seemed to move slower when your workplace was stationary. Smiling at the thought, she slipped into the halls, glancing down at her PaDD for any indication of where her quarters were.
