The last mission had taken a toll on the Memorial crew and Captain Nightroad and Cmdr Nix thought a party would do everyone some good. They put together the idea of a black and white party. Giving the quartermaster a few guidelines, they let him and his department run with it. Now, Qyra entered the holodeck to make any last minute changes, to see the finished product. The theme was ‘black and white, all night’ and what the quartermaster and his minions had done was nothing short of remarkable. A large dancefloor was in the middle of the space, its floor laid out in black and white tiles. Several tables were placed throughout the rooms with linen cloths and padded chairs. Chandeliers hung from the ceiling, spilling light that shone through the faceted crystals and danced about the room in colorful prisms.
There was a bar on each of three walls, and an assortment of finger foods laid out on a 20 ft long table at one end of the room. Everything was high quality, from the cutlery to the nine piece band that was set up near the dancefloor. The quartermaster at her side, waited for Qyra’s opinion on how successful he’d been. She looked over at him and smiled. “This is magical. I can’t believe how much you and your people accomplished in so little time. Kuddos to all of you!”
“Thank you, Cmdr, we aim to please.” His back straightened a little more. He couldn’t wait to share her praise with his staff.
He took his leave then, hurrying back to his quarters to change as he, too, would be attending the party.
Left alone, Qyra made her way to the closest bar and ordered vodka and pineapple juice. She turned and looked back over the holodeck. It was wonderful. Now all that was left was for the crew to arrive.
OOC: This is a fancy, formal party and everyone is to wear black and/or white.
Commander Qyra Nyx
Executive Officer USS MemorialRado was the first to enter, wearing a black robe that he hadn’t worn in about a decade. He tripped on the carpet and fell flat on his face. Quickly standing back up, he stood up to survey who had seen his tumble. Luckily for him, the only ones who could have seen it were the quartermaster, some cadet, and some lady who looked like the new Executive Officer…
Wait, that was new XO. “Prophets,” Rado uttered before speaking louder, “Um, uh, hello.”
Lieutenant Junior Grade Rado Gainn
Chief of SecurityLt. Kudas entered after the LT. Gainn stood up from falling. He was in the black suit he would wear for formal events at the academy. He noticed not very many people were there yet, and so he stood off to the corner, after ordering a washington apple.
Lt. Kudas, Security OfficerTath walked into the holodeck, and walked immediately to the bar. He had a black tunic and pants. His gold sash worn over the outfit. “A Raktinjino please.” He asked the bartender. He looked around and said hello to some of the crew he recognized and the new XO, he had only seen her picture that came with the announcement she was coming aboard.
Lt. Cmdr. Sharvi, Medical OfficerBen walked in to the event dressed in a full black suit. He made a beeline to the bar. He motioned the bartender to take his order. NE Javaz “what’ll it be Lieutenant” in a scraggly cracking voice. Ben replied “tall whiskey and soda with a lime” Javaz nodded and prepared Ben’s drink accordingly. Ben nodded as he took his drink and started walking away from the bar into a corner.

OOC: Why would two of you put yourselves in a corner? You are supposed to engage in this thread, not stand somewhere alone. You can make people up, you can have a date to talk to, you can get in an argument with a friend, something. I shouldn’t have to feed the ideas to you all one spoon at a time. C’mon, let’s get some story lines going so we can accomplish some character development. What do you want other players to know about who you are writing?
IC:
Nyx stood at the bar sipping her drink and nodding or saying hello to people as they entered. She would have taken a seat on one of the bar stools, but honestly, she was baffled as to how to do that in the dress she wore. The band was already playing and a few courageous couples were on the dance floor, a few more were in the food line. Everyone looked wonderful and happy—except the Vulcans, they never looked any particular way except deadpan.Qyra’s musings were interrupted by a very young cadet whose face was a lovely shade of red. “Ex…excuse me, Cmdr. W…w…would you like to dance?” Qyra smiled. It must have taken him quite a bit of courage to approach her judging by his blush. “Actually, I’d love to. Thank you, NE?”
“Ashton, sir, NECadet Walter Ashton.” She took the hand he held out to her and walked to the dance floor.
Commander Qyra Nyx
Executive Officer USS MemorialA voice called out from behind Rado. “Gainn.”
Rado whirled around to see his Vulcan friend T’Han wearing a white robe with a sash. “T’Han! You’re here.”
“I have received an invitation. It was logical to attend.” T’Han answered, “I find it curious that you are currently bedecked in Bajoran funerary robes.”
Rado looked around, hoping nobody heard T’Han. He didn’t want to be known as the weirdo who wore funeral clothes to a gala He leaned closer to her and explained in a hushed voice, “I didn’t have any white clothes and this was the only thing in black I had.”
“Was the replicator in your room nonfunctioning?”
Rado honestly didn’t know the replicators could do that. “I-I thought they were, uh, just for food and drinks.” He said, gravity of the situation sinking in.

Chief of SecurityNEAshton was polite enough to walk Qyra back to her place at the bar, give a short bow and then walk away. She smiled at the young man while thinking his courage to embrace the intimidating would help him go far in Star Fleet. Looking around, she wondered where the Captain was. So far, she hadn’t seen him enter, but it could have happened while she was dancing.
Ordering another drink, Nyx looked around to judge what kind of turnout they were having. It still looked sparse. Many of the Memorial’s officers had not shown up yet. She would note who was actually present, so at some later time she could send out a thank you for participating notice.

Executive Officer USS MemorialOOC: Somehow, this post got deleted or something so I’m putting it back in.
IC: John strolled into the room, dressed in a slim-tailored version of the late 2370s Starfleet dress uniform. His hair was deliberately tousled - just barely within the tolerances of “formal” - and eyes were sparkling as he made his way over to the bar. “Sapphire wine, please,” he requested, turning to the XO upon receipt of his beverage. “Commander,” he smiled.
Lieutenant Colonel John “Firefly” Arlen
Commander, Air GroupNix looked over at the Colonel. “Good evening. I was wondering if any of the pilots were going to make an appearance. Glad you made it.” She took a sip from the fluted glass in her hand. “It’s not a big turnout yet, but I’m hoping the later the hour gets, the room will fill with officers.”
Commander Qyra Nyx
Executive Officer USS Memorial“I did heavily suggest that the pilots and the air wing engineers should attend,” John agreed. “Are we expecting the Captain?”
OOC: There should be more side simming going on. I put this thread up because it’s easy to write in, but only a couple of you are interacting with each other. There are still many who have not joined in. Rick assures me that he and the FComm are looking for a GM. You’ve all been patient, but you need to keep posting. Okay?Another sip before answering. “Actually, I thought he would have been here already. I’m as curious as you are whether he will make an appearance or not.” That was the truth. In a conversation earlier in the day, Qyra had brought up the gala and Nightroad told her he was looking forward to an evening of pleasantries off the bridge. She wondered what came up to keep him away.
T’Han stared at Rado for a few moments, “It seems it would be logical for us to discuss the capabilities of the replicator at a later time.” She said, before looking at her dancing crewmembers. “It seems that members of our crew are swaying rhythmically. We should follow their example.”
Rado blinked, “Well, uh, I see a good-looking ensign looking your way. Oh, and I think I see Erv-” He had begun to say, but he was interrupted by his Vulcan friend.
“I would prefer to sway rhythmically with you, Gainn.” T’Han interjected.
Rado didn’t know brows could raised as high as his currently were. T’Han wanted to dance with him? Again? After what had happened last time at the Academy? “Um, uh, alright,” He said hesitantly, “Lead the way.”
Lieutenant Junior Grade Rado Gainn
Chief of SecurityLieutenant Colonel John “Firefly” Arlen
Commander, Air GroupTen minutes in and no mistakes. He hadn’t bumped into anyone. He hadn’t crashed into the dessert table yet. He avoided stepping on T’Han’s toes. Everything was going fine.
That was until they started to play Tor Jolan, Rado’s favorite composer. Unable to help himself, he started to get more passionate with his dance, with culminated in him picking up T’Han at the song’s peak. He quickly crumbled under the weight and both he and T’Han fell to the ground.
“Ugh, I’m sorry, T’Han, I guess I got, uh, carried away.” Rado apologized, pulling himself off the ground and offering a hand to his friend.
“It is alright, my friend,” T’Han responded, standing up by herself. “I quite enjoyed it.”
“Well, there’s more where that come from,” Rado said. He looked at the bar. “Wanna get drinks?” He asked.
“Indeed.”
Lieutenant Junior Grade Rado Gainn
Chief of SecurityWatching the dancefloor from where she stood at the bar, Nix saw the couple tumble to the floor and made a knee jerk motion to run out and help them up, but they got to their feet quickly without her help. Besides, she wasn’t sure the fit of her gown would allow her to bend that much. Watching to make sure they were alright, she looked back over at Colonel Arlen. “What are the chances you’d like to have a dance with me?”
Commander Qyra Nyx
Executive Officer USS MemorialThe soft whoosh of the lounge doors drew a few curious glances as Lieutenant Kaylee Baxter stepped inside. The warm lighting shimmered against polished glass and crystal, the air alive with conversation and laughter — the kind of energy that felt both celebratory and comfortably familiar.
Her black cocktail dress shimmered subtly as she moved, the soft fabric catching the light with each step. It was simple yet elegant, paired with a delicate silver chain and her hair swept to one side in soft curls. There was an unmistakable ease to her posture — the quiet confidence of someone who had grown up attending functions like this.
After all, she thought with a small smile, being the daughter of a Federation ambassador did have its social training perks.
Kaylee paused just inside, watching as a pair of officers on the dance floor recovered from an enthusiastic dip gone awry. A quiet laugh escaped her before she could stop it.
Well, she mused at least I’m not the first one to test the deck plating tonight.
Crossing toward the bar, she offered a friendly smile and nod to Commander Nyx and Colonel Arlen.
“Commander, Colonel — looks like I arrived just in time for the entertainment,” she teased lightly, glancing toward the dance floor. “Mind if I squeeze in for a drink before someone else decides to stage dive?”
Turning to the bartender, she added with a grin, “Something sparkling, please — surprise me.”
Lance entered the room wearing a very comfortable dress robs even though he was part Vulcan. And he wandered around. He had a ferret nuzzled, relax around his neck. Astro was his emotional support animal, and it likes to cling onto him.
He made his way to the bar and he decided to try something he did not during the academy a root beer

OOC: Very sorry for the quadruple post. I thought the message I was getting meant it hadn’t posted at all so I kept trying! sigh learning curve for me.

Lance NightingaleCatching sight of the ensign with the small animal perched comfortably around his neck, Kaylee made her way toward Lance, eyes bright with curiosity.
“Now that,” she said with a soft laugh, “is easily the most charming date I’ve seen tonight. What’s their name?”
She smiled warmly. “I don’t believe we have been introduced I’m Kaylee Baxter the new ship’s counselor.”-Kaylee Baxter, CNS
“Hello I am Lance Nightingale I am a medical Ensign and I to do physical therapy on the side” he pulled the little ferret off his neck. The small ferret had pure white fur in a little red eyes. “ and this little fella is named Astro” he said as the little ferret got very curious of the new person

Rado had been standing nearby when he saw an animal perched upon Nightingale’s shoulder. Unsure of what it was yet still intrigued, Rado spoke up, “Ooh, is that an Earth alligator on your shoulder?”
