Kaylee stepped through the doors of Sickbay. The familiar antiseptic scent and quiet hum of medical equipment put her oddly at ease; Starfleet sickbays had always carried a rhythm she could recognize anywhere.

She paused just inside, hands lightly clasped in front of her, waiting until one of the medical staff noticed her. Her gaze traced the lines of the biobeds, the displays quietly blinking their steady reports, the low murmur of voices carrying across the room.

There was no tension in her posture—rather, the calm acceptance of someone who had been through these evaluations many times before. Still, her eyes carried a flicker of curiosity as she looked toward the nearest crew member.

“Lieutenant Kaylee Baxter, reporting for my medical evaluation,” she said with an even, respectful tone.

She took a measured breath and allowed a small, polite smile. First impressions mattered, even here.
