With the boarding party contained, and the Captain back on board, it was time to put the alien’s plan into action. Whilst it still remained a mystery, the crew were ever hopeful that during this first contact, they had proven their Federation to be more honourable and more friendly than the one the aliens had first encountered.

With the Cube safely back in the science lab, the crew programmed it for their first jump - back to where the Excalibur was. They all hoped that the element of surprise would avoid another shooting match and, to be certain, the helmsman already had the coordinates to where they needed to travel. It wasn’t far, and a quick warp jump would get them there. The crew, however, were none the wiser as to why it was necessary. Surely they could just go back to their own universe.

They did, however, realise this gave them the opportunity to return their prisoners, and avoid the usual complications that came from detaining individuals from a different universe. With that in mind, they had place the prisoners inside a couple of escape pods, ready to jettison when they moved across universes.

With the stage set, the Captain gave the order. The cube, now programmed with the ‘mirror’ universe’s quantum signature, started to be powered up. As before, a glow emitted across the ship and it moved from one universe to the other.

The race was now on. As the two escape pods were jettisoned, the team in the science lab started to reprogramme the cube with the signature of their own universe. The deck trembled slightly as the Memorial shifted into warp, heading for the coordinates that had been given to them.

Just as the finished reprogramming the cube, the ship dropped out of warp. The Excalibur, realising what had happened, was on an intercept course. But it wasn’t quick enough. The science lab team, having received confirmation from the bridge started to power up the cube.

This time it was different, taking longer and using more power. Across the ship, crew members started to see visions of themselves. Bizarrely those visions seemed to be looking back at the crew equally confused and amazed in equal portions.

Meanwhile, back in the prime universe, the ISS Memorial hung in space, an energy field starting to envelop it from the inside. Seconds later, in what was a blink of an eye, she was gone - replaced with the USS Memorial. The crew were back home.

The last jump had caused the Memorial’s shields to fail. The alien ship, dormant until now, came back to life. It appeared that shutting down had been a defence mechanism of sorts. Before the crew had chance to react, the Cube was beamed off their ship. In its place, stood a small replica version, which had the same quantum signature as the alien’s universe. In it was an inscription that simply said “To future friends”.

Moments later the alien ship started to shimmer before it disappear. Before it did so, a beam lanced out into empty space, and a Ferengi cruiser appeared. It looked like Frax was able to go home too.

As the excitement died down, and the crew started to survey the area, any sign of the space-time distortions that had been plaguing them were gone. With the crew having boldly gone where no-one had gone before, it was now time to head back to the nearest Starbase for some well earned rest and recuperation.

OOC: This brings the sim to an end. Sorry for the last month being a bit bumpy with my RL, things have just been mad! It was great joy to be your GM - the bit I had the most fun with was Frax, and that wasn’t even in the original sim plan.

I’m going to be stepping back from GMing for a bit, but wish you the best of luck with the next sim.

Yours,

Jack
GM

Jack,

Thank you for an awesome sim. I had a great time trying to figure out the puzzles you gave us. So you know, Ensign Boyd will always have a spot on the ship.

Thank you
Rick, aka Captain Cain T. Nightroad

Jack, I only came on towards the end but it has been an honor to enjoy a sim ran by you. I think it is my first! Hoping real life eases off a bit. Thanks for running the sim! -Harley

Likewise! I am sorry life got me wrapped up this summer but it was a great plot! Thank you Jack!
