Lounge

It was a slow afternoon for Tello so she worked on catching up on anything that had gone by the wayside in the last week to ten days. Sitting down at her desk with a fresh cup of coffee, she turned to the computer to review the meetings she’d had in that time. It never hurt to read over notes she’d posted in personnel files, and to make any adjustments needed. She was going over NE Smith’s dream diary (the NEnsign had night terrors so Anaar assigned her the task of writing down as much as she could remember upon wakening) when her comm badge sounded. Still eyeing the journal, Tello tapped her badge in answer =/\=Cmdr Anaar here. Who am I speaking with?=/\=

=/\=Counselor, its NELt Wesson. I’ve just had a terrible fight with my partner. Do you have any free time this afternoon that I could come by?=/\=

Tello smiled. So much for free time. =/\=I have the entire afternoon available, NELt. What time would you like to stop by?=/\=

=/\=Wonderful, Counselor, thank you so much. I can be there by 1500 hrs if that’s alright?=/\=

=/\=Absolutely, Wesson. I’ll see you then. Anaar out.=/\= That pretty much set the pace for her afternoon.

Having gotten quite a bit done in the hours between the time she set the appointment with Wesson and the 1500 hrs the Ensign was due to arrive, Tello sat back on the couch and sipped at a cup of tea. She hadn’t eaten anything yet and was feeling a bit peckish. Dinner and drinks in the lounge would be her reward for the day’s work.

OOC: Had to take out some stuff because I combined two of my characters!

The afternoon passed quickly. The appointment with Wesson went off without a hitch and Tello had almost enough time to finish catching up on her files. With a little pep in her step, she left the office and headed for her quarters to catch a shower and change of clothes.

On her own for the evening, Tello entered the lounge dressed in a green, silk jumpsuit. Without hesitation, she took possession of a barstool and sat. “White wine, please.” The server, who recognized her even out of uniform, smiled.

“Certainly, Counselor.” He splashed the drink into a rounded glass that sat atop a stem and gave her a curious look. “Will you be meeting someone tonight or would you like to put in a food order now?”

Tello gave a soft laugh. “Well, as far as meeting someone—I don’t have anything planned, but you never know. And I think I’m good with just the wine for now.” She nodded her head, then turned to look at the officers present. She drew in a deep breath and let it out slowly. Company would be welcomed, she thought.

Rado sat on a nearby barstool, exhausted. Herding twenty people into the brig was even harder than he thought. Even his subordinate T’Han, who definitely possessed the Vulcan strength, had difficulty restraining some of them. “Bajoran ale, please, Bihr.” He said, trying not to let his exhaustion affect his manners.

Eventually, her gaze landed on a very attractive Bajoran sitting two stools away from her at the bar. (is he in uniform?) “Tough day?” Tello sipped her wine and waited to see if he was interested in conversation. It was difficult to shut off the ‘counselor’ in her, but while out of uniform, she made a real effort to do so.

Rado looked in the direction of the voice. He did a double take because the lady close to him looked a lot like his cousin Beezit, only the woman didn’t have nose ridges and still had her left arm.
“Um, yeah. The Memorial got boarded by some alternate universe people and I had to corral them, which lead to me being temporarily blinded by some cube that we obtained from a Ferengi with mommy iss-” Rado begun to explain, but realized he was rambling. “I’m Gainn. Rado Gainn.”

OCC: I suppose he’s in his uniform.

Chief of Security

“You were actually blinded? as in…no vision at all?” The thought was disconcerting to her. Someone had asked her the question once, would she rather lose her vision or hearing? She’d answered without hesitation, hearing. She’d always been very visually oriented and though it would affect her career, she’d much rather see. “I’m Tello Anaar, ship’s counselor, but I’m off the clock right now.” She gave him a friendly smile to encourage more dialog.

“Well, it was more like, uh, a variety of colors, uh, obscuring my view for, like, five seconds,” Rado answered, “You’re the, uh, ship counselor. Neat. I’ve been meaning to schedule an, uh, appointment. Been too busy.”

Lieutenant Junior Grade Rado Gainn
Chief of Security

Not having met him before, or at least she didn’t think she had, Tello wasn’t aware if he normally had such halted speech. The amount of ‘uh’s was either normal for him or it was possible her presence was making him uncomfortable. Tello didn’t want the latter to be the case. “Did you want to book an official intake evaluation or was there something specific you wanted to talk about?”

Lieutenant Commander Tello Anaar/Outgoing
CNS USS Memorial

“Just an intake evaluation will be fine. But beware, I’m Bajoran and have had my fair share of… fun memories of the occupation.” Rado said sarcastically, certain memories coming to mind.

Getting a better look at Tello, he realized that the resemblance between Lt. Cmdr. Anaar and his cousin Beezit was astounding. Should he say something? Would it freak her out? Maybe he could find a non-awkward way to put it. “Um, uh, on a similar note, there may be a possibility that I may accidentally call you Beezit.”

Lieutenant Junior Grade Rado Gainn
Chief of Security

Shapely brows rose with curiosity and one corner of her mouth twitched slightly in a tentative, forthcoming smile. “Really? I’ll keep that in mind, but I have to ask. Why would you accidentally call me Beezit and who is she…or he?” With bare shoulders in her haltered, green, jumpsuit, and her hair down in thick waves, she didn’t believe there was anything masculine about her appearance, but she could be wrong.

He should have kept his mouth shut. “Beezit’s my cousin from, uh, my mom’s side, who you greatly, uh, resemble. Minus the nose ridges and the missing left. I may slip up here and there or…something.”

Lieutenant Junior Grade Rado Gainn
Chief of Security

“Okay, I can accept that. But what is Beezits missing on the left?” She was smiling for sure now. The Lt seemed really uncomfortable talking with her, but Tello had no idea why that would be. “I apologize if I make you nervous. We’re in the lounge talking over a drink—I don’t know how to encourage you to be more relaxed than this.”

Lieutenant Commander Tello Anaar/Outgoing
CNS USS Memorial

“Her arm. No left arm. She was, uh, born without it. I think.” Rado answered. “You aren’t making me feel particularly nervous. Why?”

Lieutenant Junior Grade Rado Gainn
Chief of Security

“Actually, it’s your speech pattern. There are a lot of ‘uhs’, hesitations, which make me think you are searching for words because you are experiencing discomfort.”

Commander Qyra Nyx
Executive Officer USS Memorial

“Oh, that. That’s how I, uh, normally talk. Especially when meeting new people.” Rado explained, “I’ve done it for most of my life. The counselor at the academy suggested it might be related something called ought-ism, whatever that is.”

Lieutenant Junior Grade Rado Gainn
Chief of Security

“Autism, really?” She didn’t remember seeing that diagnosis in his psychological file, but that didn’t mean it wasn’t there. Also, the use of ‘uh’ and ‘umm’ were fillers expressed by children because they had difficulty planning and delivering their speech choices. So, she made a mental note to check Lt Rado Gainn’s record at some point in the next few days.
