USS Memorial

Main Sim: ISS Excalibur

Posted by Gamemaster Jack (Gamemaster) in Main Sim: ISS Excalibur
In the coldness of space, a ship slowly, carefully, made its way through an area of space that, up until two hours previously, had been stable. Now, it was full of subspace eddies that made navigation tricky, and reduced the effectiveness of the sensors.

“Steady, helm.” ordered the man, sat in the centre seat. He was wearing a maroon tunic, buttoned up down one side of his chest. Adorned on his left breast was various colourful pips, awarded to him throughout the years of service for the Empire. On his face was a scar; a memento from an operation that he wore like one of his pips.

“Sensors?” he asked, not bothering to turn around.

“Still distorted,” replied the Romulan lieutenant at ops. “There’s definitely a ship there, and but I cannot confirm it’s our Memorial.” she continued.

The Captain remained thoughtful as he rubbed his chin. “Hmm…” he started, “I know Nightroad, and whilst that was his voice, that wasn’t him.” he said, leaning forward. “Are you sure that this distortion is like the last one we encountered?” he asked.

“Yes, almost identical, aside from the fact that the secondary quantum signature is different this time. It’s not the same signature as the Clinkers’ universe.” she stated. “However the underlying technology that did this is most likely the same.”

“The cube?” the Captain asked.

“Most likely,” she replied, “although clearly it is more capable that we anticipated. We when used it, we were only able to establish a rift between our universe and the Clinkers’ universe. This could mean that it allows for any cross-dimensional travel.” she said, almost gleefully.

“And to think we thought it lost…” the Captain mused.

“Sir, I’m getting some secondary readings,” interrupted a Klingon at tactical. “Looks like small, auxiliary craft; they could be fighters.”

“Maintain present course,” he said with a smile. “Keep the shields down, but energise defence systems.” He knew that the distortion in the area would prevent the Memorial from being able to detect the subtle shift in power routing. He pressed a button on the side of his chair. “All stations, red alert. Fighter squadron Bravo and Charlie to flight decks, and standby for launch.”

OOC: Just to clarify, this isn’t the mirror universe from TOS, DS9, etc… rather an alternative mirror universe.

The Captain gently drummed on the arm of his chair as the Excalibur made its way toward the Memorial. It felt like an eternity, or certainly a week, as the distance between the two ships closed. He rubbed his beard, puzzled as to the lack of communication or response from the Memorial. “What is she up to?” he muttered, to no-one in particular.

As the ships continued to close in, the Romulan at ops spoke up. “Sir, I can confirm, the Memorial is not our memorial; it seems to have a different quantum signature compared to this universe.”

A small smile formed at the corner of the Captain’s mouth. “Raise shields, lock weapons, and deploy the fighters!”
