John strode down the short corridor connecting his quarters, the squadron ready room, and the shuttle and fighter bay. He was going to submit a request to the XO to have that renamed to simply “Flight Operations Bay”, or Flight Ops - the full name was certainly a mouthful. Either way, it didn’t change the purpose of the bay, and his reason for being there. He came to a halt well to the side of the landing zone as the final two fighters of his squadron neatly touched down, resuming his walk towards them once they were completely motionless.

Ben walked in his full jump suit. Ben had nodded to Major Arlen and proceeded to fall into formation awaiting further instructions.

1st Lt. Park,

Pilot

Emberlee finished her shut down procedures and secured her fighter and climbed down the ladder, her helmet under her arm. She fell into formation with the other pilots after setting her helmet on the ground and unzipping her flight suit part way, they things were hot and it didn’t matter how much coolant ran through them, she ended up sweating. She fell to attention and waited for the Major to give orders.

John was in a standard duty uniform, his day having been more paperwork than piloting. He stopped a few feet in front of the two very stiff lieutenants, a grin on his face. “At ease,” he told them. “However it was at your last post, I don’t normally hold to rigid protocol unless the Captain or XO walk through that door.” As engineers descended on the two’s craft, he motioned the pilots to follow him. “I’m Major Arlen, Firefly if we’re not in dress uniforms. I’ve been told neither of you have been given your callsigns yet?”

Ben relaxed a little. “Yes Sir, that is correct.”

1st Lt. Park

“You’ll earn one soon enough,” John laughed. “You as well, Lieutenant Atkins?”

Bump!

Emberlee nodded “Yes sir. My previous post had not given me my call sign when I left. So I figured, I’d earn it here.” She said falling into step with the two men. Emberlee thought back over the past several years. She did have something of a reputation for getting herself into hot water and then coming out on the other side virtually spotless. She wondered if that would hold true here as well.

Atkins (pilot)

“We’ll see what you two do that sticks,” the CAG remarked. “Your quarters will be Deck 17 aft. That’s right above this bay - in theory, you should always be able to get here, even if the turbolifts are down, within 120 seconds. This,” he gestured to the room they were approaching, “is the Memorial’s ready room. I’m sure you know the drill - duty rotations are posted in here, ready statuses, all of that. So,” he took a seat at the front of the room, “why piloting?”
