Do you want to untag yourself from this post?

USS Memorial

posting part 3

I plan to do these once a week and I believe that our FCOMM, Admiral Steve plans to do something similar with the fleet. With that said, this one was for this weekend but with a certain post that our GM responded to, I am writing it now instead of Sunday.

I will cover three posting best practices in this thread and they are:

  1. Spell Check is a basic concept and when you are in the draft mode, misspelled words should be underlined in read so you can fix them (I am on an HP and that is how it looks for me not sure about apple users). Next to the submit button there is a preview button. If you hit the preview button it will show you how it will look in the thread. This is your chance to read it how others will read it and make sure it sounds right. You don’t want to have to go back and edit it while someone is replying to your post and it gets mixed up.

  2. Post timing, I am going to use the thread for the cube where Jack, our GM, posted about timing. Sometimes you need to wait a bit and let some things happen before you respond to a post. If my character having the computer run a scan on something and your character is going to go tell the XO something on the bridge, then your next post is you asking what is happening after coming back from the bridge and my scan is not complete there might be a timing issue. A quick scan from the computer should be complete before you make it to the XO on the bridge and back. Another thing to remember is that we have comm badges and communications, you don’t have to go to the bridge with all news you can talk to the bridge, CO, XO or anyone using your comm badge and the =/\= to show it.

  3. Primary Characters vs Secondary Characters vs NPC’s, I will use my characters on the ship and toss in two of Jack’s for this. My primary character on the ship is Captain Cain Nightroad, the CO, and I do my best to keep up with everything that happens with him. I also have two secondary characters on the ship the first is LT Sabik, Science Officer, I created him because we didn’t have any JO scientists on the bridge and I knew the CSO could use at least one. The other is my dog Boomer who wonders around as comic relieve and emotional support when needed. These two characters I use as needed but my CO character is the one i make sure doesn’t go AWOL and is on top of things, which means your primary character is the one that needs to be in the forefront of your mind.

NPC’s on the other hand are only used by one person on the ship, that is our GM, Jack. Current NPC’s are the Ship’s Computer and Frax, the Ferengi but the GM will make NPC’s when needed to move the sim along.

Last thing for this post, If you haven’t noticed yet, Jack has a very large job as GM and not only that he has characters on other ships and he is also the club president so please be patient with his responding, we are a 5/7/10 ship so he does have 5 days to respond to your post but he normally gets to it sooner

Continue doing great things as a ship,
Captain Richard Gruby
