After finishing getting her wife settled and doing her boarding physical and counseling she went about getting settled into Engineering She was in the Chief Engineers office organizing things a cup of warm Kailan milk sitting on the desk as she put up a Sharr’kath which was a long Leathal looking Spear of sorts the caitains still practiced martial arts with them however it was more for exercise and hobby than for any serious fighting it was 6 feet long with a foot long double edged blade a metal counterweight at the other end was very ornate however looked like it could do some serious blunt damage if swung hard enough and featured inlaid Caitian symbols of some kind

On another wall there was a picture apparently from Miz’uki and K’mora’s wedding Miz’uki was in a lovely dress as was K’mora though K’mora’s was more of a traditional bridal dress while Miz’uki’s was more just a very nice dress There was also ship models Memorial class, Mythology Class, Mariner Class, Sovereign Class, Galaxy, Defiant, and many more

From the doorway, a small-framed human stood quietly, clearing her throat. Crewman Nash nervously awaited her new chief’s permission to enter. She had never met a Caitian before, and now there were two on board. However, her visit wasn’t just about meeting her new chief. It was about something more pressing.

“Yess” She purred turning to see who her new guest was The Caitian smiled in her way she moved closer to the desk looking at the human with interest

Crewman Nash stepped forward, her voice slightly shaky. “Lieutenant Miz’uki, I’m sorry to disturb you. There’s an issue in Engineering I can’t fix myself. The main shift manager is occupied with another critical task. We have a malfunctioning plasma relay in section 14B. I’ve tried rerouting the power, but the bypass protocols aren’t holding, and we risk a cascading failure if it’s not resolved soon. I need your expertise to stabilize the system.”

She purred and smiled “Well well Come on then Lets go take a look!” she said grabbing her toolkit and her leg guards she sat in the chair and began pulling on the guards these of course were specially made for Digitigrade legs the normal Uniform boots don’t work well with Caitain legs after all these went to her knees and seemed more like armor than just footwear once she was ready she got up and headed into main engineering “Lets go have a look at the Relay itself Lets shut down power to the area adjacent 2 sections as an extra precaution Sometimes its just better to replace parts that are acting up in the short term and recondition the old part so it can be reused!” she said kindly “And don’t worry about having trouble with this Crewman some will tell you asking for help is a sign of weakness its not” she said trying to boost her officers confidence a bit

Grateful that Lieutenant Miz’uki had agreed to help, Crewman Nash led the way through the bustling corridors of the Memorial’s engineering deck, guiding Miz’uki to the panel where she had been working. She quickly explained the troubleshooting steps she had already taken and outlined her plan to investigate the malfunctioning plasma relay in section 14B next. Nash felt a wave of relief knowing that Miz’uki’s expertise and guidance would help resolve the issue.

Miz’uki nodded “I will need to evaluate the rest of the Engineering staff but There might be potential for you around here” she said winking at Crewman Nash “Now let’s see” she added as she approached the wall panel they would need to pull off “Oh what the heck I thought it was in here I misplaced my resonance cross decoupled “Do you happen to have one handy?” she asked she was still digging around her bag looking around however her tail suddenly seemed to become very animated as if it too was looking around

Nash considered for a moment before replying, “We can grab one from the engineering locker, Ma’am. The last inventory check showed three in stock, and it’s only a short detour.” She spoke with respectful confidence.

“Alright” she said moving in that direction Miz’uki had clearly studied the Memorial class specs and layout in detail “So Nash This your first assignment?” she asked curiously

“That’s right, and hopefully not my last. I hope to get on the Academy apprenticeship scheme and earn my commission.” She said guiding her boss through the ship and her so called short cut.

well you can do anything you set your mind too so you just keep working hard and good things will come!” she said as they reached the locker she looked around inside and was looking for the tool she needed at this point Nash might notice that Miz’uki was carrying her full tool kit minus the one tool with her tail

Nash couldn’t help but be impressed by Miz’uki’s dexterity. The Chief Engineer’s ability to manipulate tools with her tail was nothing short of remarkable, showcasing a level of multitasking Nash had never witnessed before. “I’ve never seen anyone use their tail like that,” she remarked with a grin, genuinely fascinated.

She smiled “Thank you It is a skill that Caitians like myself can achieve through strenious training I cant manipulate anything fine with it Like say operate a Tricorder with my tail but I can at least hold a tricorder or anything really allowing me to do other things with my hands” she explained bringing the tool kit around she passed it from her tail to her hand opening it and putting the tool away “Now then come along lets get that relay taken care of” the caitian officer said smiling kindly at the Crewman as they started heading for the problem

Nash followed Miz’uki through the corridor, her mind buzzing with curiosity and a hint of nervousness. She wanted to ask something but wasn’t sure if it was appropriate. Finally, she couldn’t hold back any longer.

“Ma’am,” Nash began, then hesitated, realizing she had already started asking her question. She chuckled nervously, “Uh, can I ask you a question? Wait… I guess I already did, didn’t I?” Nash took a breath, trying to steady her nerves. “What’s your homeworld like, Ma’am? I’ve never met a Caitian before, and I’m curious about where you’re from.”

“Not at all Crewman Well To be honest Its mainly Grasslands we have other biomes sure but still we also have a very tight bond with nature though that does not mean the creatures of the homeworld are well completely passive with us Caitians” she purred dark memories coming to her mind which made her shiver all the way to the tip of her tail “However we do live in harmony with a good number of our wildlife take the Tracer goats They live wild but they are very thankful when the herdkeepers who share the land with them come out and milk them you want something that will put you to sleep Try Warm Ciatian tracer milk! Trust me some of the most pleasant dreams you could ever have” she giggled

Nash smiled at Miz’uki’s response, her curiosity piqued by the description of the Caitian homeworld. The thought of living in such close harmony with nature, even with creatures that weren’t entirely passive, was fascinating.

“Warm Caitian tracer milk, huh?” Nash mused, her grin widening. “I might have to try that sometime—maybe when I’m having trouble sleeping next! Sounds like it could be just what I need.”

The two continued their journey through the ship, the conversation easing the tension that Nash had been feeling. As they arrived at the location of the malfunctioning relay, Nash felt a renewed sense of confidence, knowing she was learning from one of the best.
