Rado Gainn entered the sickbay, ready for his physical by the Chief Medical Officer. He tried to hide his limp, a little nervous that it would force him off the ship. He had done fairly well hiding it at the academy, but there were close calls. Whenever a professor requested to speak to him alone or whenever he had any medical examination, Gainn thought the jig was up. But no, nobody caught on.

He approached the nearest medical officer and tapped their shoulder, “Excuse me, are you the Chief Medical Officer?” He asked when the medical officer turned around, “I’m Ensign Rado Gainn. I was, uh, told by Lieutenant Turner to come here for my Boarding Examination?”

KT turned round and smiled warmly “Welcome abord. and yes I’m Lieutenant KT-QT the Chief medical officer” she said her to kind and warm. “You just be our new security ensign” she said as she gestured to an empty bio bed and grabbed tri-corder. KT, being an synthetic, didn’t need it but she found it put a lot of the crew at ease, after all having KT just stare at you for a second would be a bit unnerving.

“So anything changed since your last eval?” KT asked as she started scanning with her tri-corder. She had of course noticed the limp but she would wait to address that after the Ensign had relaxed into his eval a bit.

Lieut KT-QT (CMO)

“Not that I know of, no.” Gainn said, trying to ignore his rapidly beating heart, “I did get a little sick three months ago, but nothing too major.”

“Ensing i need you to calm down. Your heart rate is spiking.” KT said kindly her tone soothing as she checked her scan results and her records for any mention of the illness.

Upon noticing KT had finished scanning, he asked, “Is that it or is there more?”

Rado Gainn

KT sighed “There is one thing.” she said her tone still warm but firm “Mind explaining to me why you’re trying to hide a limp? And why it doesn’t show up in your medical records?” she asked moving her tricorder down to Rado’s leg. While Rado did a good job of hiding it and KT was sure it had fooled plenty of organics. She was a synthetic and could pic up micro changes in a persons body language and movements.

Lieut KT-QT (CMO)

Rado Gainn sighed heavily. It’s just his luck. “When I was 15, I stowed away on a Cardassian starship. I was caught before we even left orbit. I was beaten to a pulp. My mother, however, said that I was lucky that they didn’t decide to shoot me on the spot. Most of the Bajoran hospitals were underground, so there would be little chance, I suppose, of those records on my injury making to Federation records.” Rado paused, and then asked nervously, “Do you think that I may be taken off the ship?”

Ensign Rado Gainn, Sercurity Officer

KT knew of the Bajoran plight, after all it was so similar to her owns people story of rebellion and resistance. But their reasons where very different, the Bajorans where conquered where as KT’s people had literally been born into it and crated for enslavement. It had endeared the Bajorans to KT and her species.

“For the injury no. For trying to hide it possibly. But there are ways round it, and it obviously doesn’t effect you to much if you can pass through the academy.” KT said truthfully. It was the kind of thing a by the book CMO would write him up on, but KT was not like that. She knew first hand how hard front line triage was, especially when your supplies where either non existent or very limited.

“Here’s what I’m going to do. I’m going to write it off as a training injury. On the condition you let me treat it. After all you’re in star fleet now, we have the second best equipment in these parts. If that doesn’t work we’ll turn to the best medical equipment. My peoples. Sound fair?” KT said as she put down her tri-corder and grabbed a padd quickly writing up the paperwork.

Lieut KT-QT (CMO)

Rado couldn’t believe his luck. He’d be staying in Starfleet AND have his limp healed. “Yes, yes. That totally works. Is there anything I can do for you to make it easier or something?”
