Sifeda walked in silence to the ready room. Once inside, she waited for Lieutenant Tolly and the doors to close before she turned to face him. Her eyes flashed with controlled anger, and she took a moment to gather her thoughts before speaking.

“Lieutenant, what happened down there was unacceptable,” she began, her voice low but edged with steel. “You undermined my authority in front of not only the Ferengi but also the rest of the crew. Do you have any idea how that affects our mission and my command?”

Sifeda crossed her arms, her eyes narrowing as she fixed Lieutenant Tolly with an intense stare. “Permission granted to speak freely, Lieutenant, but mind your step at the same time.” She took a step closer to him, as she waited to hear what was going to come out of his mouth.

John inhaled deeply, contemplating his words carefully. He aimed for honesty without seeming disrespectful. “Sir, I wish you had trusted me,” he finally voiced. “With all due respect, I had the situation under control.” He paused, weighing his next words. “It wasn’t my intention to challenge your authority, but it felt like you doubted my competence. Although I haven’t pursued a command career, my upbringing was steeped in high-level diplomacy—my father, an Admiral, and my mother, a member of the Federation Council. I’ve learned a great deal from their experiences”
