He sipped at his drink as he looked out at the stars. The drink was sweet, too sweet, for his taste. He’d have to ask the replicator to half the sugar next time. When he took on this posting of Deep Space Reporter with the FNS, he never expected he’d be on a starship. He thought he’d be on a strange new world of some kind, discovering the truth and paying for lunch for the locals. He thought he’d be out fishing, hiking, sleeping ‘neath the stars and sitting ‘round a fire. Instead, he was here, and the closest he got to any of those things was the holodecks, and while they were a good simulation, they didn’t come close to the real thing. And he longed for things to get real.

Turning away from the viewing screen, he approached the railing and the stairs that would take him down to the main floor of 2-Forward.

Coming up the other way was Ensign Raain, a recently joined Trill who had just herself joined the medical team aboard the memorial straight from the academy. “You first” She offered with a smile not recognising the person coming dow.

“Hello, miss,” Jeremy greeted her, coming down the stairs, “I’m Jeremy Kelly, from Dayboro on Earth, I work for the FNS. I’d welcome the chance to interview you sometime, if you’d be up for it.”
