Even in the low light, a small cube object could be seen, sat on the floor in the centre of the room. It was no bigger than 8” (or 20cm) in its dimensions, and each side lacked an imperfection on what appeared to be a metal that gave the appearance of dark, brushed steel. Initial scans of the cube would show that it had no moving parts, and seemed to be made of a single alloy, comprising of iron, carbon and traces of an unknown element.

Gamemaster

Suddenly, Aza stopped in front of a cubed object that looked like it was made of steel. “Commander,” she called out softly, drawing Sifeda’s attention. “I think you should see this.”

Ensign (Aza)
(Security officer)

Sifeda approached, her eyes narrowing as she did. “What is it?” she asked as she turned to Thalia who had her tricorder up scanning the object.

Commander Itri
(Executive Officer)

Thalia studied the readings on the tricorder then said, “It appears to be a cube, metallic composition with some unusual elements. The tricorder confirmed its composition is iron, carbon, and an unidentified trace element, that the tricorder cannot pick up. Which is..unusual.”

Ensign Summerhill
(Science Officer)

Sifeda approached cautiously, eyeing the cube as if expecting it to spring to life. “Could it be a data storage device?”

Commander Itri
(Executive Officer)

Aza nodded thoughtfully, kneeling beside the cube to inspect it more closely. “Possibly. It seems inert, no signs of activation or movement.”

Ensign (Aza)
(Security officer)

Tolly moved up next to Commander Itri “Commander I’d like to get the ships captains quarters, I’d like to download the captain’s logs, maybe they can give us an idea of what the hell is going on here?”

John Tolly Chief of Opperations

Sifeda nodded at Lieutenant Tolly. “Great idea. Be careful Lieutenant, something doesn’t feel right.

Commander Itri
(Executive Officer)

Ensign Summerhill’s scans also showed something unusual about the quantum signature of the cube. It wasn’t quite aligned to the quantum signature of the rest of the ship, or even the crew from the Memorial.

However, any thinking was suddenly interrupted by a yellow beam that shot out across the cargo bay.

“Stop where you are!” shouted a Ferengi voice from behind a crate. It looked like the Ferengi hadn’t left their valuables unattended after all.

GM Dipper
Gamemaster

Sifeda was startled by the sudden appearance of the Ferengi. The sharpness in the Ferengi’s voice and the threatening beam cast an eerie glow across the dim cargo bay. .

The sudden turn of events startled Thalia. She let her tricorder slip from her fingers, the device clattering to the floor with a sharp, jarring noise. Instinctively, Thalia drew her own phaser, her grip tightening around the handle as she aimed it at the Ferengi. Her eyes darted between Sifeda and Aza, seeking direction.

In a flash of movement, Ensign Aza drew her phaser and aimed it directly at the Ferengi. Her stance was steady, eyes locked on the threat. “Lower your weapon,” Aza demanded, her voice demanding and filled with readiness to act.

Sifeda shot Aza a brief, measured look, signaling her to hold fire but remain ready.

“Hold your positions,” she commanded her team, her voice firm. She slowly turned her head toward the source of the beam, peering through the shadows to spot the Ferengi.

Thalia nodded but she kept her phaser aimed at the Ferengi.

A glint of metal caught her eye. The Ferengi was partially hidden behind a stack of crates, his weapon trained on them. Sifeda’s gaze locked onto him, her expression calm yet calculating. “We’re not here to steal anything,” she said, projecting authority. “We’re investigating a disturbance. If we can work together, we might be able to solve this without any conflict.”

Commander Itri
(Executive Officer)

Aza maintained her grip on her phaser.

Ensign (Aza)
(Security officer)

Thalia maintained her grip on her phaser and waited to see how the Ferengi would react to the Commander’s proposal.

Ensign Summerhill
(Science Officer)

“What disturbance?” spat the Ferengi, as he looked over the crate he was hiding behind, his eyes darting between the away team, and the open vault. “You have no right to be here, Federation!” he further shouted, obviously anxious that the away team was onboard the ship.

GM Dipper
Gamemaster

Just as the away team was dealing with things their end a brief communication opened =^=Commander, a message from the Captain. We have detected an unknown vessel on an intercept course, going to yellow alert be on standby for emergency beam out =^= The line closed.

The Ferengi over heard the transmission, and immediately howled out.

“Naaaooooo! They’re back!” He cried. “The… droidlings!” The universal translator’s translation was quite literal, having come across a Ferengi equivalent of a compound noun.

=^=Away team, the Captain is requesting you to finish what you’re doing and beam back to the ship=^= Ande said sending the message as ordered.

Tolly heard the order from the Captain and saw the reaction from the Ferengi, he knew what he needed to do, he took a breath and stepped forward. “How much?” He said pointing to the crate, he could feel all eyes on him, but he knew that he needed to speak this Ferengi’s language and that language was profit. “How much for that crate?” he knew he was taking a risk, but he also knew that the highly patriarchal Ferengi most likely wouldn’t listen to the female member of the crew.

John Tolly Chief of Opperations

The Ferengi cocked his head to one side, his mouth open showing his crocked teeth, and his nose wrinkled.

“Ahhh…. The hew-mon opens negotiations!” He exclaimed, keeping his phaser pointed toward them.

“100 bars of gold pressed latinum, but only if you provide safe passage for me and my crew!” He shouted across the room.

GM Dipper
Gamemaster

Tolly laughs “100 bars for this hunk of junk? 50 bars”

JohnTolly Chief of Operations

The Ferengi snarled, and then laughed. “I didn’t give you enough credit!” He replied. “90, but then you’ll say 60, and we’ll repeat that until we get to 75.” He said, in a very non-Ferengi manner.

“So, 75, and then we can get out of here before the droidlings return!”

GM Dipper
Gamemaster

John raised an eyebrow “I’ll give you an extra 10 bars if you tell what the droidling are? and why you are so scared?”

John Tolly Chief of Opperations

Sifeda’s eyes were fixed on the Ferengi with curiosity and concern as she listened to the exchange between Tolly and the Ferengi. She kept her stance firm, ensuring her team remained alert and ready for any sudden movements.
We don’t have much time, she thought, acknowledging the Captain’s orders and the urgency of the situation. She needed to make sure the negotiations went smoothly and quickly.

“Ensign Aza, keep your focus on the Ferengi,” Sifeda instructed, her voice low but commanding. She shifted her gaze to the shadows, scanning for any additional threats that might complicate their mission.
The Ferengi’s fear was clear even through his negotiations, and Sifeda knew that leveraging his anxiety might yield valuable information. “Make it 80 bars and we will not detain you,” she interjected firmly, stepping forward to stand beside Tolly. “And as my officer said we need every detail you have about these droidlings.”

Commander Itri
(Executive Officer)
Tolly cast a surreptitious glance towards Sifeda, murmuring, “May I have a word, Commander?” He then turned to the slightly perplexed Ferengi, offering a smile and a raised finger, “One moment, please?” Ensuring they were out of earshot, yet still whispering, he said, “No disrespect, Commander, but given the Ferengi’s… let’s say, less than enlightened view of females, your involvement in the negotiations might be counterproductive.” He gently placed his hand on her shoulder, meeting her gaze, “Please, trust me… I’ve got this.”

John Tolly Chief of Operations

Sifeda felt a surge of indignation at Tolly’s suggestion. She had faced prejudice before, but never on the basis of her gender and she was not about to let it dictate her actions now. “Chief Tolly, I appreciate your...... but I am the most senior officer here,” she said, her voice firm and unyielding. “My rank and experience are not negotiable. And I will not have my authority undermined by outdated prejudices. I don’t care what the Ferengi thinks and if he has a problem with that, he can take it up with Starfleet Command. We do not have time to go back and forth, I say we detain them and give them nothing.”

Commander Itri
(Executive Officer)

He looks at her firmly “You’re making a mistake sir, don’t let your own feelings cloud your judgment? My Dad was an admiral I’ve seem him deal with dozens of Ferengi including the Nagus, I know how to handle him”

John Tolly Chief of Operations

“Why do you think we have ears the size of our head, hew-mon?” Cried out the Ferengi. “85 bars, you have a deal… can we just get going?” He exclaimed.

OOC: splicing this in from the Bridge thread…

After hearing the message from the Captain reiterated, Sifeda pointed at the Ferengi and said, “No more haggling. There is a ship on the way, I assume someone you don’t want to treat with. She made eye contact with Aza and motioned her head toward the Ferengi. Aza set her phaser on stun then ordered the Ferengi to hand over his weapon. “Secure our guest. Everyone prepare to beam back to the Memorial. Immediately.” She tapped her comm badge and said, =^=Memorial, Commander Itri, we are ready to beam aboard. We will be bringing some guests aboard, please ensure security is waiting their arrival in the transporter room.=^=
