Subject: Casual Gathering in the Mess Hall: Getting to Know Each OtherDear Junior Officers and Non-Commissioned Officers,
As we embark on our journey aboard the USS Memorial, I would like to invite you to a casual gathering in the Mess Hall. This will be an opportunity for us to get to know each other better and to break the proverbial bottle as we start this new adventure together.
Time: 1700
Location: Mess HallThere’s no formal agenda for this gathering – just good company, light conversation, a few special cocktails and perhaps a few laughs. I believe it’s important for us to build camaraderie and foster a sense of community among all members of our crew.
I look forward to meeting each of you and to the camaraderie that will undoubtedly develop as we journey through the stars together.
Best regards,
Captain Aiden Voss

As Aiden entered the Mess Hall, he was greeted by the welcoming aroma of freshly prepared food and the sight of several pitchers of drinks arranged neatly on a table. The room was buzzing with the chatter of junior officers and non-commissioned officers mingling and getting to know each other.
Aiden made his way over to the buffet-style food setup, where an array of dishes awaited. There were trays of finger foods, sandwiches, salads, and various desserts, all laid out invitingly for the crew to enjoy. The enticing spread promised a delightful evening.
With a warm smile, Aiden began to mingle with the crew, engaging in casual conversation and making everyone feel welcome. He poured himself a drink from one of the pitchers and began to seek out his next conversation.

Commanding Officer
USS MemorialSifeda stepped into the Mess Hall her hands behind her back as usual. When she saw Aiden, she decided to step out of her comfort zone and attempt to make a joke to start a conversation with him. “Am I invited to this event as well?” she quipped, her tone light and teasing as she made her way over to him.
Sifeda joined him near the buffet, her eyes sweeping over the assortment of dishes laid out before them. “Quite the spread they’ve put out,” she remarked, reaching for a plate and beginning to fill it with an assortment of food. “I must admit, Captain, if I had a weakness it would definitely be food. I love all kinds of food and what better way to bring people together by offering food and the opportunity to participate in idle conversation?”
Commander Itri
(Executive Officer)“Of course not it’s good for you to come, and I must admit I also have a weakness for food. It’s one of the few things that I truly believe we should not substitute, yet we try our best with replicators and meals ready to eat.” He scrunched his nose up at the thought.
Sifeda chuckled at Aiden’s comment about food, nodding in agreement. “Absolutely, Commander. There’s something irreplaceable about the experience of enjoying a well-prepared meal,” she replied.
As Thalia entered the mess hall, she gracefully moved through the room, engaging in conversations with various officers until her eyes landed on Captain Voss. She maneuvered through the crowd until she stood beside him. To her surprise, Commander Itri was also present chatting with him, a fact she had missed because the room was so crowded. Offering a swift nod and greeting to the Commander, she turned her attention back to Captain Voss. “Captain,” she began with enthusiasm, “this event you’ve organized is truly exceptional. I’m honored to be a part of it. By the way, do you happen to remember me?”
Ensign Summerhill
(Science Officer)Aiden smiled at the science officer he had met previously, “I’d be a terrible Captain if I didn’t, you gave me a delightful tour and explanation of the going ons in the science department, and please this is a less than formal get together call me Aiden.”
Balancing her plate as she moved to make space for Thalia, Sifeda stared at her a moment then gave her a warm smile. “Indeed, Captain Voss has outdone himself with this event,” she remarked, glancing around at the lively atmosphere. She held her hand out to Thalia, I am Sifeda, First Officer, I dont think we have met yet.”
Commander Itri
(Executive Officer)Thalia returned Sifeda’s smile warmly, feeling a sense of camaraderie in her presence. “A pleasure to meet you, Sifeda,” she replied, shaking the First Officer’s hand with a firm grip. “Thalia Summerhill, Science Officer,” she introduced herself, then turned back to Aiden, noting his casual invitation. “Thank you, Aiden. It’s a relief to be in a less formal setting for once.”
Tyr and NE Black walked in together and saw the Captain and first officer speaking with a bluecoat, the two exchanged a glance and as if they’d practised manoeuvres they split up, Black to join some of the older pilots and Tyr making his way to get a drink, exchanging the occasional pleasantries with people he knew

USS MemorialThalia gestured towards the buffet. “I see you’ve already sampled the offerings. Any recommendations? I’m always eager to try something new,” she said, her eyes wide with curiosity. She glanced around the room, noticing the arrival of Tyr and Black, briefly acknowledging their presence before focusing her attention back on the conversation at hand.
Ensign Summerhill
(Science Officer)I would suggest a Klingon dish, but there aren’t any here at the moment.” She put her plate down on the table, then picked up another plate and placed a few sandwiches on it as well as a couple of desserts. “Here try these and see if you like them. I believe the humans call them sandwiches. The sweet stuff are desserts.”
After giving Summerhill the plate, Sifeda said to Captain Voss. “I would like to address the room. If that is okay with you.”
OOC: I am going to assume that Sifeda making a speech is okay :)
IC: With a raised glass, she initiated a moment, beginning her speech:
“Welcome everyone, I am Sifeda Itri, your new XO.” she began. “We are gathered here at this moment to network and have an opportunity to get to know your colleagues, the folks who will be operating this ship right by you.”
Her words highlighted the significance of understanding each other’s roles and capabilities for the journey ahead. “I encourage each of you to get to know each and every face in here,” Sifeda continued, her gaze sweeping across the room. “We will be on this ship a long time, and it’s essential that we know who is who, who works where, and what we are all capable of.”
Acknowledging the presence of new faces, including Captain Voss and herself, Sifeda extended an invitation for interaction and collaboration. “I will be here by Captain Voss’ side,” she concluded, gesturing towards their captain. “And when you get the opportunity, come to us and say hello.”Commander Itri
(Executive Officer)“I couldn’t have said it better myself Commander, lets hope some of them are willing to take you up on that offer otherwise well be stood over here like hermits.” He joked.
Captain Aiden Voss
Commanding Officer
USS MemorialSifeda chuckled at Captain Voss’ remark. “Well, Captain, at least we’ll look like hermits together,” she said, She turned back to the assembled crew, lifting her glass higher to initiate a moment. Sifeda lowered her glass and took a sip, letting the moment sink in. She could see the crew beginning to relax, conversations starting up. Sifeda felt a sense of satisfaction; this was the first step in building the trust and cooperation they would need.

USS MemorialAiden had left the comfort of their secluded corner and made his way towards a nearby group engaged in animated conversation. The group was deeply immersed in discussing the recent parrises squares championship held on Bajor, with voices rising and falling in excitement as they debated the merits of various players and strategies. Aiden, always eager to connect with others over shared interests, seamlessly joined the discussion, contributing his own insights and opinions on the championship’s standout moments and key plays.
“The final match was incredible,” Aiden remarked, his enthusiasm evident. “Did you see how the Bajoran team’s captain executed that flawless jump move in the last minute? It completely turned the tide of the game. And what about the new defensive strategy they employed? It was like nothing I’ve ever seen before.”
As he spoke, the group’s energy seemed to invigorate him, and soon he was laughing and exchanging stories with his newfound companions. The lively camaraderie made him feel at ease, and he found himself thoroughly enjoying the conversation.
“By the way,” Aiden continued, his curiosity piqued, “what did you all think of the referee’s decision during the second quarter? Do you think it was fair, or did it favor the Bajoran team too much?” He looked around the group, eager to hear their thoughts and keep the discussion going.

USS MemorialAza, who herself was quite knowledgeable about parrises squares, decided to join the conversation, approaching the group just as Captain Aiden Voss posed his question about the referee’s decision. She interjected smoothly, “I think the referee’s call in the second quarter was a tough one, but ultimately fair, I guess. The Bajoran team’s aggressive play style can sometimes blur the line between assertive defense and foul play, but in this case, I believe the referee made the right call based on the rules in play.”
Reflecting her understanding of the game, Aza continued, “What impressed me most was how the Bajoran team adapted their defensive strategy in the final moments. It was a gamble, but it paid off spectacularly. That jump move by the captain was a game-changer for sure.”
Turning towards Aiden, she added, “You’re absolutely right to highlight that moment, sir. It showcased not only their athleticism but also their tactical strategies under pressure.”Ensign (Aza)
(Security officer)Lt. Kudas walked in to the mess hall and grabbed a drink, at the suggestion of a welcoming officer, he thinks works in engineering, and found a quiet corner to sit at. He had been on the ship for a couple months, but mostly still kept to himself and his security tasks. He scanned the room, and could recognize a few faces from working around the ship, but he was bad at remembering people’s names.
Lt. Kudas, SecurityAiden was impressed by the ensigns own analysis, “Perhaps we should arrange a viewing party for the next league start, what was your name again?” He asked wanting to remember someone who so clearly had a similar to passion to himself.

USS MemorialOOC: Not a JO ot NCO, but it seems like something that a Journo would/should attend :)
IC: Curious, Jeremy followed crewmembers as they headed towards the mess hall, he slipped in as well and stood in the corner, as the proceedings got underway, he listened as a woman with dark skin and black waist-length hair spoke. He applauded politely at the end of her speech and tapped a brief quote into his ever present padd, cursing himself silently for not thinking to bring the holocamera with him. As the mingling continued, he kept to the outside of the group, his job as a reporter was to report the news, not to make the news. But there was all that food over there and he was slightly peckish, so he approached the buffet. Someone else caught his eyes, someone he thought he recognised. Of course, Jeremy was in his teens back then and was on a field trip off world for part of his studies.
They had to be rescued, and Jeremy was certain that this man was part of the team that rescued them, it was a Starship, the Valkyrie, the Vanguard, it could have even been the Van Goth for all he knew, but the image of the officer who led the mission, who had personally comforted him, as a teen, who left no one behind, was burnt into his mind. And he was certain this was that same man. Of course, Jeremy had changed since then. growing out of the gangliness of adolescence into the maturity of adulthood, and had acquired a couple of facial and body scars along the way, though the one on his left cheek had been there since his early teens. If it was the same man, of course he had to thank him, after all, the one who led the rescue efforts, was kind of a hero to Jeremy … and he wanted to thank him … personally.
Civilian Jeremy J Kelly
Reporter USS Memorial
Aiden’s gaze caught sight of a new face entering the mess hall. It was Mr. Kelly, the ship’s onboard reporter, tasked with documenting the Memorial’s long-term mission. Kelly’s presence was meant to provide valuable insights into Starfleet operations, aiming to boost recruitment and support. Recognising the importance of Kelly’s role, Aiden knew he had to make a good first impression.
“Excuse me for a moment,” Aiden said to the group, offering a polite smile as he stood up. He walked across the room, weaving through clusters of crew members enjoying their downtime.
“Mr. Kelly,” Aiden greeted warmly as he approached the reporter. “Welcome aboard the USS Memorial. I’m Captain Aiden Voss. I hope you’re settling in well.”
