Even in the low light, a small cube object could be seen, sat on the floor in the centre of the room. It was no bigger than 8” (or 20cm) in its dimensions, and each side lacked an imperfection on what appeared to be a metal that gave the appearance of dark, brushed steel. Initial scans of the cube would show that it had no moving parts, and seemed to be made of a single alloy, comprising of iron, carbon and traces of an unknown element.

Suddenly, Aza stopped in front of a cubed object that looked like it was made of steel. “Commander,” she called out softly, drawing Sifeda’s attention. “I think you should see this.”

Sifeda approached, her eyes narrowing as she did. “What is it?” she asked as she turned to Thalia who had her tricorder up scanning the object.

(Executive Officer)

Thalia studied the readings on the tricorder then said, “It appears to be a cube, metallic composition with some unusual elements. The tricorder confirmed its composition is iron, carbon, and an unidentified trace element, that the tricorder cannot pick up. Which is..unusual.”

Sifeda approached cautiously, eyeing the cube as if expecting it to spring to life. “Could it be a data storage device?”

Aza nodded thoughtfully, kneeling beside the cube to inspect it more closely. “Possibly. It seems inert, no signs of activation or movement.”

Tolly moved up next to Commander Itri “Commander I’d like to get the ships captains quarters, I’d like to download the captain’s logs, maybe they can give us an idea of what the hell is going on here?”

Sifeda nodded at Lieutenant Tolly. “Great idea. Be careful Lieutenant, something doesn’t feel right.

Ensign Summerhill’s scans also showed something unusual about the quantum signature of the cube. It wasn’t quite aligned to the quantum signature of the rest of the ship, or even the crew from the Memorial.

However, any thinking was suddenly interrupted by a yellow beam that shot out across the cargo bay.

“Stop where you are!” shouted a Ferengi voice from behind a crate. It looked like the Ferengi hadn’t left their valuables unattended after all.

Sifeda was startled by the sudden appearance of the Ferengi. The sharpness in the Ferengi’s voice and the threatening beam cast an eerie glow across the dim cargo bay. .

The sudden turn of events startled Thalia. She let her tricorder slip from her fingers, the device clattering to the floor with a sharp, jarring noise. Instinctively, Thalia drew her own phaser, her grip tightening around the handle as she aimed it at the Ferengi. Her eyes darted between Sifeda and Aza, seeking direction.

In a flash of movement, Ensign Aza drew her phaser and aimed it directly at the Ferengi. Her stance was steady, eyes locked on the threat. “Lower your weapon,” Aza demanded, her voice demanding and filled with readiness to act.

Sifeda shot Aza a brief, measured look, signaling her to hold fire but remain ready.

“Hold your positions,” she commanded her team, her voice firm. She slowly turned her head toward the source of the beam, peering through the shadows to spot the Ferengi.

Thalia nodded but she kept her phaser aimed at the Ferengi.

A glint of metal caught her eye. The Ferengi was partially hidden behind a stack of crates, his weapon trained on them. Sifeda’s gaze locked onto him, her expression calm yet calculating. “We’re not here to steal anything,” she said, projecting authority. “We’re investigating a disturbance. If we can work together, we might be able to solve this without any conflict.”

Aza maintained her grip on her phaser.

Thalia maintained her grip on her phaser and waited to see how the Ferengi would react to the Commander’s proposal.

“What disturbance?” spat the Ferengi, as he looked over the crate he was hiding behind, his eyes darting between the away team, and the open vault. “You have no right to be here, Federation!” he further shouted, obviously anxious that the away team was onboard the ship.

Just as the away team was dealing with things their end a brief communication opened =^=Commander, a message from the Captain. We have detected an unknown vessel on an intercept course, going to yellow alert be on standby for emergency beam out =^= The line closed.

The Ferengi over heard the transmission, and immediately howled out.

“Naaaooooo! They’re back!” He cried. “The… droidlings!” The universal translator’s translation was quite literal, having come across a Ferengi equivalent of a compound noun.

Tolly heard the order from the Captain and saw the reaction from the Ferengi, he knew what he needed to do, he took a breath and stepped forward. “How much?” He said pointing to the crate, he could feel all eyes on him, but he knew that he needed to speak this Ferengi’s language and that language was profit. “How much for that crate?” he knew he was taking a risk, but he also knew that the highly patriarchal Ferengi most likely wouldn’t listen to the female member of the crew.
