The Transporter chief was waiting for the away team having already been notified of their arrival,.

Sifeda walked into the transporter room, her gaze sweeping over the familiar surroundings. The away team was already assembled, and now it was time for their first mission together, “Chief, we’re ready to beam down,” she announced, her voice steady and clear, masking any hint of the nervous energy she felt.
Sifeda glanced around at her team, a small but capable group. Each member carried a specific expertise essential for their task. “Remember our mission objectives. We stick together, follow protocols…okay?”
She stepped onto the transporter pad, aligning herself in the center. She took a deep breath, feeling the familiar tingle of anticipation that came with every transport. “Energize.”
A swirl of shimmering light enveloped her, and the transporter room faded from view. The sensation of dematerialization was one she had grown accustomed to over the years, but it always held an edge of the unknown

OOC: Quck question who’s on the away team?

BJ

OOC: Anyone who wants to be.
OOC: Happy for anyone to go on the mission as their PC or NE.

Commander Itri
(Executive Officer)

The away team materialized into a dimly lit room, their surroundings shrouded in shadows. The chief had hit the mark, placing them just outside engineering, following standard procedure for assessing the ship’s systems. As the energy beam faded, it cast a brief, eerie glow over the area before vanishing, leaving only the sinister red hue of the Ferengi’s version of red alert. The male computer voice echoed ominously through the silence, repeating its message with a Ferengi flair: “All hands, to the storage vaults! Protect the precious cargo! Profits must be secured!”

After they materialized, Aza pulled her phaser out and moved around the eerie dim red room making sure it was clear. She did a scan of the immediate area, looked at Sifeda and gave a nod. Indicating it was okay for now to move around the area.

Ensign (Aza)
(Security officer)

After security officer Aza gave the okay, Sifeda headed to one of the consoles. “It looks like we are headed to the storage vaults to see what this precious cargo is.” As she activated the console, it was of course in Ferengi and she could not interpret the strange symbols. “Anyone fluent in Ferengi?” her question directed to everyone on the away team, “We need to pull up the ship’s schematics to figure out where the storage vaults are.”

Commander Itri
(Executive Officer)

Though the ship was dormant, it didn’t appear to have any internal damages scans would show that there were no lifesigns on the ship, the warp core was cold but there was also trace elements of vast amounts of platinum that had seemingly melted into the atmosphere.

Sifeda glanced around at the team assembled behind her. Ensign Aza stood alert, her phaser still at the ready, studying the surroundings.

“Anyone fluent in Ferengi?” Sifeda repeated, a note of urgency creeping into her voice. The silence that followed was telling; none of them could decipher the alient language displayed on the console.

Commander Itri
(Executive Officer)

Aza lowered her phaser, stepped forward, her brow furrowed in thought. “Let me try,” she offered, “My symbiont had interactions with the Ferengi before. There may be enough knowledge to at least figure out where we need to go.” Her fingers moved across the interface. After a few moments of concentration, she managed to access the ship’s main database. “Got it,” she announced proudly. “The storage vaults are located in Section 12 of the ship. Looks like we’ll need to head down two levels.”

Ensign (Aza)
(Security officer)

OOC: Just moving this along a bit…

As the Away Team entered Section 12 of the ship, there were a number of secure storage vaults along the corridor. Cargo containers dotted the corridor, blocking the entrance to most of the storage vaults, aside from one. Further inspection of the keypads would so that all had a thick layer of grime and dust, apart from the very same vault where the keypad had been crudely wiped to show the details of each key. It was almost as if fate was telling them where to look.

Talking of grime and dust, four of the buttons looked like they had grimy fingerprint marks on them.

Sifeda’s eyes narrowed as she scanned the corridor. The air was thick with a musty odor, mingling with the faint metallic tang that often accompanied these derelict ships.
“Everyone, keep your eyes open,” she instructed, her voice low but firm. “This could be a trap.”

Commander Itri
(Executive Officer)

Aza moved to her side, her gaze following hers to the cleaned keypad. She spoke quietly, “Looks like someone’s been here recently. Maybe they were in a hurry.”

Ensign (Aza)
(Security officer)

Sifeda nodded. “Let’s not assume anything. Ensign Summerhill, Can you analyze those fingerprints? See if we can get any clues about who or what might have left them.”

Commander Itri
(Executive Officer)

Thalia nodded as she approached the keypad cautiously. She tapped her tricorder, the noise of it analysis filled the silence as it scanned the grimy marks.

Ensign Summerhill
(Science Officer)

After Thalia did her analysis and waited for the results to process, Sifeda said. “Let me know as soon as you learn something she said,” then she urged the team on, “In the meantime, Let’s proceed with caution. Aza, take point. I will cover our rear. We don’t want any surprises.”
As they advanced towards the vault, the dimly lit corridor seemed to stretch endlessly. Her team moved silently, the only sound being the soft shuffle of their boots against the metal floor.

Commander Itri
(Executive Officer)

They reached the vault door, and Aza stepped forward, fingers fixed above the keys on the console. “This might take a moment,” she murmured, her studying the symbols.

Ensign (Aza)
(Security officer)

“Take your time,” Sifeda replied, her gaze sweeping the corridor behind them.

Commander Itri
(Executive Officer)

Their comm badges chirped to life with the familiar voice of Aiden. =^= Commander, what are your initial findings? =^= he asked, his tone authoritative yet casual.

The scans would show that the fingerprints were Ferengi. The panel itself consistent of 16 symbols, all of which appeared to be in Ferengi.

As the team moved along looked around the apparently empty ship he made a face and shook his head
“This isn’t right” He said “A Ferengi would rather die than abandon their cargo”

Before responding to the Captaian, Sifeda turned her attention back to Aza, whose brow was furrowed in concentration. “How’s it looking?” Sifeda asked, her voice steady, masking the growing unease within her.
Aza’s fingers moved quickly over the console, occasionally pausing as she decoded the foreign patterns. “It’s complex, but I think I’m getting the sequence. Just a bit longer.”

As Aza’s fingers hover over the console, the Ferengi symbols blinked back at them. While Aza coninued to work on deciphering the symbols, Sifeda’s gaze shifted to the corridor behind them. The emptiness of the ship felt eerie, the silence amplifying the uncomfortableness. She couldn’t shake off the unsettling feeling Lieutenant Tolly’s words had stirred. A Ferengi abandoning their cargo was indeed out of character. There had to be more to this than they were aware of.

When the Captain’s voice came in over comms, Sifeda’s fingers brushed her comm badge, activating it, =^=Captain, we’ve reached the storage door. The console is in Ferengi, so it’s taking time to decipher, however there’s no sign of life or struggle. Aza is working on accessing the door now. It’s possible the ship’s crew may have left in a hurry, but it’s too soon to determine why.=^=

After a few miners, the tricorder had successfully decrypted the combination on the keypad. It was a four character code, which coincided with the four grubby finger prints on the keypad. Asa should now be able to open the vault door!

As Aza’s tricorder successfully decrypted the code, a beep indicated their success. Sifeda watched as the keypad illuminated, confirming the four-characters that matched the smudged fingerprints, in the correct order left behind by the hurried Ferengi crew. With a nod from Aza, Sifeda stepped closer to the vault door, her hand resting on the handle as she exchanged a quick glance with her fellow officers.
The vault door hissed and slid open slowly. Sifeda peered into the darkness, her eyes adjusting to the low light.
“Let’s proceed carefully,” Sifeda said, her voice barely above a whisper. She stepped forward, gesturing for Aza to follow closely behind. Each step echoed faintly in the quiet chamber, amplifying the tension that hung thick in the air.
As they moved deeper into the storage vault, Sifeda eyes searched for any clue that might shed light on the Ferengi’s abrupt departure. The silence around them was unnerving, broken only by the ship’s systems and their own quiet footsteps.

Even in the low light, a small cube object could be seen, sat on the floor in the centre of the room. It was no bigger than 8” (or 20cm) in its dimensions, and each side lacked an imperfection on what appeared to be a metal that gave the appearance of dark, brushed steel. Initial scans of the cube would show that it had no moving parts, and seemed to be made of a single alloy, comprising of iron, carbon and traces of an unknown element.
