As Captain Aiden Voss stepped onto the USS Sierra Leone transporter pad, anticipation coursed through him. He glanced at Lieutenant Mirdalan Emery Kindle, his friend and the ship’s newly appointed intelligence officer, standing beside him. Aiden offered a reassuring nod to Emery, knowing that the transition to a new assignment could be both exciting and daunting. After a long journey on the Leone, Captain Aiden Voss was relieved to reach the Starbase where the USS Memorial awaited. Wanting to save time, he asked to beam directly to the Memorial with his friend Emery. With new crew coming from the Starbase and other ships, Aiden wanted to be ready and organized ahead of time.
With a faint hum, the transporter activated, and the familiar sensation of molecular disassembly and reassembly washed over them. Moments later, they materialized in the transporter room of the Memorial.
“Captain Sh’Zoarhi” Aiden stepped of the pad and greeted him with his hand outstretched in invitation to shake it. “I hope I pronounced that correctly.”

Tralla
“Thank you, Captain,” Aiden replied, returning her smile with a mixture of respect and empathy. “I assure you, I’ll do my best to honour the legacy of the Memorial and lead her crew with diligence and care.” He couldn’t help but feel a pang of sympathy for her, knowing the weight of responsibility that came with command, he often felt it himself. As they exchanged pleasantries, “Shall we go to the bridge, I believe there is a small matter of protocol we need to attend to or we can perhaps retire to the ready room first so you can let me know what to expect?”

USS Memorial“My apologies, Captain. Allow me to introduce you to Lieutenant Kindle,” Aiden began, a hint of pride evident in his tone. “She will be joining the crew as the ship’s Chief Intelligence Officer. I may have had to pull a favor or two, but trust me, she’s the best in the business and has helped me out of more than one sticky situation. After all, what good is being a captain if you can’t call on a friend now and again?” With a subtle motion of his hand, he signalled for Emery to step forward and greet the captain.
Mirdalan or as Aiden called her most often Emery, waited for a proper opening before she spoke up, “We’ll keep the Memorial in good straits Captain ‘Zoarhi.” Emery did not hide the cheeky smile she offered up as she finished speaking, to do so would be off with her personality. If she wasn’t cheeky with nearly everyone she met there was a big problem in the air. She was dressed in her intelligence gray and black and her hair pulled back in a tight french knot braid. She had elected to remain in uniform since Aiden had asked her to join him when beaming over from the base to the ship. If she had been on her own she would have been in casual wear while carrying her orders with her. She would stick with Aiden until he gave a sign she was free to go explore the ship. Or if he had something else in mind she would keep an eye for that as well.

BJ popped in. Everything was ready for them to depart. “Hey, all the non essentials are ready to go. All that’s needed is our carry ons.”
Janzen
As Janzen made his appearance, Iden hadn’t responded yet to the mention of the ship’s AI. “Ah, Commander Janzen, correct?” he greeted, his tone courteous but with an underlying sense of awareness. “It’s regrettable that your stay couldn’t be prolonged for us to get better acquainted, but I do comprehend the urgency you both must feel.” His acknowledgment of their relationship lingered unspoken in the air, a subtle reminder of the protocol that required officers involved with other officers or non-commissioned personnel to declare their relationship status.

As Aiden strolled alongside the Captain, the gentle rhythm of their footsteps matched the steady pulse of the ship’s machinery. Oblivious to any lingering unease caused by his earlier oversight regarding the ship’s AI, Aiden aimed to maintain a comfortable rapport.
“Captain,” he started, his voice warm and engaging, “I couldn’t help but hear that you’re set to assume command of Jupiter Station.” Casting a sidelong glance at her, he added, “Quite the responsibility, isn’t it?” His intent was clear: to foster an easy exchange, keeping the conversation flowing effortlessly between them as they journeyed side by side through the corridors of the ship.
