Aiden stood in the well-lit briefing room, his back to the door whilst he watched shuttles and ships buzz around the starbase, a sense of anticipation coursing through him. Refreshments adorned the table, offering a small comfort amidst the gravity of their impending discussion. Each seat had a PaDD prepared, courtesy of Lieutenant Kindle, their diligent intelligence officer and his loyal friend. As he waited for his department heads to arrive, Aiden took a moment to gather his thoughts, ready to lead his crew into the challenges that lay ahead.

Emery walked back in a cheeky smile on her face as she brought over a platter of miniature muffins, flavors from blueberry, strawberry, lemon truffle, vanilla bean cream and chocolate chip. She added it to the rest of the refreshments at the table and took a cup of hot chocolate for herself. “Aiden you got this you ran Starbase 12 as much care as anyone could, and did more than your share on the Vanguard.” she offered him a cup and one of her signature cheeky smiles.

Aiden turned as Emery entered the room, a smile tugging at his lips as the scent of freshly baked muffins wafted through the air. He couldn’t help but chuckle at the sight of the decadent treats, each one tempting him with its irresistible aroma.

“Ah, Emery, always thinking of our waistlines,” Aiden teased as she set the platter down on the table. “Though I must admit, I’ll make an exception for these.”

He accepted the cup of hot chocolate, enjoying the warmth it brought to his hands. As he took a sip, he couldn’t help but reflect on her words of encouragement.

“You’re right, Emery,” Aiden replied, his tone thoughtful. “Running a Starbase and serving as an XO were certainly valuable experiences, but being fully responsible for a starship, especially the Memorial, as its captain… It’s a different beast altogether. The weight of this command feels heavier somehow.”

He met Emery’s smile with a determined gaze, grateful for her unwavering support and confidence in him. With her by his side, he felt ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead, knowing that together, they could overcome anything.
