Aiden briskly made his way through the corridors of the Memorial, his mind focused on the upcoming mission. He had a pressing need to consult with his old-time friend Emery or Lieutenant Kindle depending on who was in the room, the ship’s intelligence officer, regarding critical details. As he approached the intelligence offices, Aiden couldn’t shake the feeling of urgency that gnawed at him.

Upon reaching the door, he entered to find Kindle engrossed in a flurry of activity, poring over data on her console, as he often would enter without knocking. Clearing his throat to announce his presence, Aiden caught her attention.

“Emery,” Aiden addressed her his tone carrying a sense of urgency. “I need to discuss our new mission. I’ve asked the XO to meet us here since we haven’t had time to officially meet.”

Few folks could call her Emery without getting an sassy retort in reply. Aiden had earned her respect and friendship a long time ago and she didn’t mind when he chose to call her by her middle name which if anyone actually asked, she did like Emery more than her first name of Mirdalan, but she had several folks calling her Emony instead of Emery growing up, and that was a sore point. “I just got the hot notes with more details to be decrypted. Do you want something to drink or do you want to wait until the Number One arrives?” Emery asked with a cheeky grin that was no stranger to their friendship or interactions. It was when it was absent that there was something up.
